Just back from the Legend 4/17-4/24SHIP: recently refurbished and no complaints. Decoration a little gaudy for my taste but I don't really care about that. Staff was great. Loved the adults only serenity area with a pool, hot tub, and lounges.FOOD: generally good, comparable to other cruises. Buffet was consistently better than other cruises.ENTERTAINMENT: Didn't care much for the stage shows, singers and dancers. Liked Angela, the sing-along pianist. She has a nice voice and is very personable. Enjoyed the comedy which was well attendedCASINO: gambled a little in the afternoon. Too much smoke for me to hang around at night. PORTS: Grand Cayman we had reserved with Moby Dick (no deposit) . Short tender ride then short walk to meeting place, bus to boat, then out to swim with sting rays. 3 staff members in the water showing us how to feed and hold rays. Loved it. Then a little snorkeling (they got a large moray eel to come feed). Bus headed back the port dropped us off at Royal Palms for some beach time. Restaurant and chairs rentals there. We put our towels on the sand and took a swim. Plenty of taxis for short trip back to port. Cozumel: We took a taxi to Chankanaab Park, a few miles from the port. $19 admission(with online $2 discount) Sat on the beach in the shade, watched sea lion show, watched guests paying $$$ to swim with dolphins. Had decent lunch, beer. Climbed down steps to snorkel. There is a small beach where little kids could walk into the water but otherwise the beach ends at a wall with deep water on the other side. Snorkel equipment for rent. Spent so much time, we never made it to town. Plenty of cabs for ride back to ship. Cheaper that Carnival excursion. Roatan: After walkng through the shops, the 2 of us got a cab for $60 for the day. People on tours with Victor Bodden or Dixon had to walk another couple hundred yards. Driver took us up a dirt road hill to an overlook. We went to a butterfly sanctuary that had some birds and local animals to see. Then we went to West End and checked out some of the local gift shops. Then we headed for the beach on West Bay. Driver suggested Mayan Princess $10 pp for facilities, pool and chair. Chairs were sold out. Tried San Simon next door- sold out. Ended up at Las Sirenas at $15 pp. Beautiful beach and pool but reef was too far out to snorkel there. Heard the snorkeling at Tabyana Beach where Carnival goes was great http://www.roatanwestbay.com/. Not much else on the island. If I was there again, I might just swim at Mahogany Bay where the ship docks instead or the 30 min drive to West Bay or go on one of the boats from West Bay that take you to the reef to snorkel. Belize: We reserved a trip to Mayan Ruins at Lamanai through Island Marketing. $75 each including lunch. An hour each way in a van, an hour each way on windy boat ride up a river. Great visit to the site with hardly anybody else there. At each of the 3 temples, the 20 of us were alone. You can climb the many steps to the top for a view of the river. Got us back with 10 minutes to spare.
