Fantastic Transatlantic Trip
Wondering about a transatlantic journey? Just do it!
We are fairly picky people and we thought Queen Mary 2 was just terrific. Taking this transatlatic crossing fulfilled a life-long dream.
We booked hotel (Millenium London) and flights through Cunard. Service from their drivers and "escorts" at the ports and at the London hotel was first-rate all around.
Food on-board in Britannia was quite good, although salads werer very blah despite fancy names. Portions were correct size. Wait staff very good.
Our B5 Cabin was much larger than we'd imagined. Sheltered balcony perfect for getting some air on what was a pretty stormy crossing (force 7-9 winds for the first 3 days and we couldnt go on deck much).
Staff and fellow travellers all friendly and diverse. Yes, there are lots of elderly passengers, but also lots of people 30-60 and a nice smattering of kids too.
EXCELLENT guest speakers (Bill Miller and Robin Oakley). First-rate classical More guitarist. Enjoyable, short Vegas style shows with singer/dancers.
Gym nicely furnished and never too busy. Canyon Ranch Spa five day pass a must at $95. You can eat VERY well and still loose weight with all the walking.
Stewardess was omnipresent and helpful. Laundry facilities very handy.
My only "gripe" is that they ask for your "cruise card" before you can get drinks. VERY TACKY and unnecessary: They know who we are and we are on their boat in the middle of the sea!!...it's not like we could "skip out on the bill"!!!
All in all, we felt we got an experience that was worth every penny on a classic ship that is part of a grand tradition. We are looking forward to taking QM2 again sometime. Less
