Thomson Dream has potential

Sail Date: August 2010
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Las Palmas

My wife and i have cruised with thomson for 11yrs this would be our 8th cruise with them one with p&o one with My Travel and one with ocean village.

So we booked a weeks cruise on the dream to see for ourselves what it really is like.

We flew from bournemouth to palma on the 3rd of augustand all went to plan no hold ups and got on the transfer coach to the ship no problem there so after putting our cabin number stickers on our cases it was on to the ship for the first time and we were impressed with the smart decor and promptly led to our cabin by a very pleasant crew member.

Before we got of the transfer coach we were told that the ship would not be sailing to tunisia as one of the fresh water tanks had to be repair as it split and leaked i was told it would cause the ship to list over if not filled up. That meant there was no duty free shop open during the cruise as we stayed with in the E.U. We got £50 each on the cabin account for the More inconvience.

Our cabin was on deck 7 an outside plus. It had a fair sized double bed nice and cumfy. It had a fair size bath tub with split level shower heads the likes i have never seen before all in good condition and with good water pressure hot and cold the toilet flushed ok to. The walls were in good state of decor with nice pictures on them and the carpets as new condition the air-con worked blasting out cool air is this really the dream or is it a dream we thought.

Whilst we waited for our cases to arrive we went up to eat on deck 9 the buffet resturant it was a typical buffet resturant plenty of salad stuff all fresh and hot plate stuff, soup was on the other side of the resturant by the sweets and ice cream now that was unusual and there was a pasta station there to out side by the pool was a burger bar the burgers are lovely with fresh chips and the bar was on the other side of the deck.

The pool was fair sized with a kiddy pool next to it and plenty of sun beds never had a problem getting one all new sun beds down both sides of the prom deck. The main pool was bigger on deck 11 with 2 jaccuzi one loads of sun beds. By the time we got back to the cabin the cases were there i left wifey to unpack and wen to explore. fiirst to find the main resturant orion deck 4 went down the front staircase as the lifts were busy moving suitcases.

As i walked up the stairs i went along deck 5 then i got the first wiff of it was it sewerage or was it a vegg smell a bit cabbage or cauliflower i went up to deck 6 and walked to the front the smell was there to it appeared to come up the 2nd stairwell are so there is a smell i thought.

We set sail at 9pm the next day palma is a nice port but not that nice. we had a lovely meal in the orion that night as were all the meals in there served by the best waiters both wine and food you could meet in fact all the crew did thier jobs well and with pride.

Its a shame that every thing is'nt tickety boo on the thomson dream the potential is there and the crew work their hardest to make it nice i am sure it can be put right and it will be the best ship in the thomson fleet she is a classic ship as all their ships are no wow factor like other cruise lines.

The ship does list to port by several degrees at times and the higher the deck the more noticable it is the main pool does seem higher sometimes on the port side and the jaccuzis overflow.

We never dined in sirens resturant deck 11 cause it is tricky to get to with only one or two staircases and the lifts were slow at the best of times but the food was the same just further away from the galley deck 4.

ENTERTAINMENT. Is very good through out the atlante theatre was in very good condition nice theatre with productions of old stuff but revamped to guy stevens standards and there was a couple of comedians drafted in getting served for drinks was slow in there the only place it was. The main bar had strum jam very good ocean bar elegance good trio sung all 60, 70 ,80s stuff. Delo bar pianoist and singer Argo lounge violinist and a key board player the only quite spot was the library.

ALL the public places seemed in good decor the only buckets i saw was in deck 9 resturant a pipe had burst and the public loo had no water the captain did announce that the water would be turned of on two occasions but they were all ways late at night.

Anyway on the whole we enjoyed our cruise and will go back on the dream.

WEdont doubt some people did have problems on deck 5 cause thats were one saw the most engineers milling about but all the people we saw were enjoying themselves and making the most of there once a year holiday . THATS ALL FOLKS HAPPY CRUISING. DADO Less
