Sail Date: Aug 2010

Arrived in Palma on Tuesday to be told that the ship had a fault with the water storage tank and we would have to stay in Palma for an extra day and would not be calling into Tunis. The ship set sail on Wednesday evening for Naples and at about 4pm on Thurday the Captain announced that there was a steam leak and he would have to slow down in order to carry out necessary repairs. On Saturday 7th.following a trip around Sardinia we returned to our cabin and found a note stating that the ship would not be calling into Mahon because tugs were not available.Instead the ship would be calling into Barcellona- this meant we had 2 visits to this port in 7 days. The same evening informed that essential maintenance work had to be carried out and this would affect the water supply to all cabins. On Friday 13th.Captain announced that because of predicted bad weather we were not calling into Santa Margherita and would be visiting Genoa instead. This meant we missed 3 ports of call on a 14 day cruise. We were given a refund of £50 per person for the cancellation of the Tunis visit but nothing for the other changes. Regarding the ship itself we encountered the following problems: (i)the hot water system was poor. Many evenings we had a cold shower. (ii)the air conditioning was not functioning properly and on many evenings passengers had to wear cardigans or jumpers in the dining room and public rooms. (iii)in certain areas of the ship there was a smell of sewage. (iv)the lifts were not very reliable. (v)we booked a "premier cabin"and were very dissappointed - the bathroom needed to be replaced.  Thomson Dream Cabin No.9001 This cabin is classed by Thomson as a "Premier Cabin". First impression very dark we had to keep the lights on at all times during the day.The walls need repapering and the chairs and setee need replacing. The bathroom needs to be completely replaced. The grouting around the bath must have been done by a 6 year old because it looks so grotty. After paying over £4500 for this cruise we were very disappointed with this cabin.  My wife and I have been cruising with Thomson for many years, starting with the old "Sapphire",and have never encountered so much bad feeling amongst the passengers or changes to stated itinery. We enjoyed our holiday and made the best of the situation but regret to say that we will never cruise with Thomso again.
