Liberty Luxury & 7lbs heavier!

Sail Date: May 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

As cruising novices, and having spent the last few vacations in 5-start luxury Dubai hotels, we were very wary about cruising but thought we would give it a try. We were NOT disappointed! You cannot believe the impression of size and elegance when you are standing at the glass walkway, leading to the Royal Promenade or on the top level of the main dining room, looking down to the levels below with its elegant stairway as a beautiful backdrop.

Our cabin too was nicely decorated and very well laid out and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of room there was both in the main cabin and in the shower room (although I did wonder how some of the "larger" people we saw on the ship would fit into the shower!

Food was fantastic in the 2 signature restaurants (Chops Grille & Portofino's) but I was even more surprised by the high quality and presentation of the food in the main dining room. The service was also excellent - although there were 4000 passengers on board, More with anytime dining, we never had to wait for a table and were served quickly.

The entertainment was of a high standard with one exception - an American comedian who we simply did not find one bit funny (although all the Americans seemed to love - must be a British thing!)

One of the highlights was swimming with the Dolphins - a must do! One of the most frightening but exhilarating things I have ever done was the Zip-line in Labadee - it was brilliant but I can't believe I did it! Overall - A great holiday - sun, sea, good food, great service, great entertainment, variety...... what more could you want! Less

Cabin review: Liberty of the Seas Superior Oceanveiw Stateroom Deck 7 9308

Bed comfy, cabin spacious, clean and nicely decorated, balcony lacked any privacy and chairs uncomfortable, shower cubicle a bit small but otherwise well designed. Quiet location but disturbed one night with very noisy neighbours sitting out on balcony. Overall very happy with cabin.

Port and Shore Excursions

Stayed overnight in Maimi at the Wyndham Miami Airport which proved to be of a much higher standard than we were expecting from a stopover hotel. It was only a few minutes from the airport - a bonus after such a long flight. It had a lovely outside pool area. Our room was large, nicely furnished and overlooked the golf course. Breakfast was an additional charge but was reasonable for what we got - good choice and nicely cooked.

We arrived around 8pm and, after checking in, we took a taxi to the Bayside Shopping area. This was a very safe area down by the waterfront full of shops, bars and restaurants. There was a band playing outside and we sat listening to them with a Martini in hand and "people" watching until 1am.
