This was our 11th cruise and first cruise as Diamond members, third cruise aboard Voyager, and we love her. This was a group cruise and birthday celebration for fellow CC member's 60th birday. There were 10 of us spread out all over the ship. We had aft 8692 and it's a winner!

Well, after watching all the angst during the Galveston Fog delayed cruise back in December, I and my M&M thread members earnestly prayed and crossed our fingers against fog for ours in February...but wouldn't you know it, the fog waited weeks before returning to damper our departure!

Embarkation: my fellow CC members kept in touch constantly during the morning hours leading up to departure as the fog had returned with a vengence. Everybody was emailing, texting and calling back and forth from Dallas, to San Antonio, to Houston with reports about embarkation. The time for leaving was changing hourly it seemed. First the ship was stuck outside Galveston, but fortunately, thanks to Cpt. Dahlgren's experience as Master, they were first in line to come in and finally made it in to dock around 1:30 as I recall, throwing everything off. We finally made it to EZ Cruise Parking around 3:00 due to our own technical gliches and boy was I glad they had delayed boarding several times. A warning to you here about your cruise docs...don't leave them at home. I had taken them out of my traveling sachel to find the rez.# and inadvertantly left them on the kitchen table...and you guessed it, didn't realize I didn't have any boarding docs or other important papers about an hour out of San Antonio. My daughter met us halfway back with the packet and we rushed on amid frantic texting to other CCers. When we arrived the fog was still hanging in thick veils across Galveston, the port was a traffic nightmare, EZ Cruise had not even allowed anyone in as the disembarking pxs were no where near off the ship yet. So we parked in Olympia's parking lot and met the rest of our group there for lunch and drinks. I have to say, it was an adventure, but I thought it was fun for a change, and in a while none of us cared that we were late. The latest news was that RCCL was recouping everyone with $20 pp OBC for lunch on account of the delay and that boarding would commence at 6:00 P.M. Yikes! We walked the strand shopping and enjoyed Galveston for a while and when we cam back at 5:00 the announcement had gone out that boarding was taking place. We hightailed it over to the terminal whilst the guys parked at EZ and got in line, and what a line it was, but we didn't care, the bar had taken care of that! Soon, they were redirecting Platinum/Diamonds to that line and we moved ahead quickly and were on board by 6:00. We had late seating so there was time to move into the stateroom and do some chores before dressing for dinner, but the scuttlebut was that the port authority had closed the port...yikes, we envisioned another 2 day disaster! The captain made announcements to that effect during dinner and boarding was closed by 9:00 P.M. but the ship wasn't going anywhere. We went to bed that night in dense fog, watching the tanker load behind Voyager..but there was a surreal and mysterious quality about it that I appreciated. But boy, did I pray we got out of Galveston that night as we would have been extremely unhappy to miss one of our favorite ports, Roatan. Sometime about 3:00 A.M. Monday morning, I awoke and checked the balcony to see the lights of Galveston in the distance...yahoo, we were at sea...and that's enough about that. We thought the port and pier people and RCCL did a magnificent job of dealing with this...after all, no one messes with Mother Nature!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

E1 Aft 8692 is very small but one of the best kept secrets on the Voyager class. Great value for the money and one of the biggest balconies on the ship. We were able to accomodate our new hammock and 3 loungers, 2 chairs and the small table and at one point had a guitar party with our gang of 10 people on it! Wonderful view everywhere you go. Needs way more storage though. We saw many ways they could improve on this by adding shelving and niches etc. We visited friends in 1688 D1 Aft as well, again a great value, as the cabin itself is the size of a Junior Suite with a large balcony also.
