We returned about a week ago from our first cruise experience and I have to say, we were quite impressed. Sure, there were a few speedbumps along the way (more about that later...), but overall the vacation was worth every penny. We have always wanted to take a cruise, but have mainly been all-inclusive-resort-type-travelers in the past. We have gone to Cancun twice (including one shelter stay during Hurricane Wilma...), Playa del Carmen, and Nassau. We normally don't take our son with us- mainly because we didn't feel an alcohol filled, hot, potentially bad water, foreign country was the best place to take a small child, plus, we wanted a break too! We decided it was time to take a family trip now that he is almost 5. What better place to try it out than on the Disney cruise! We thought we would start with a short one to see if we liked cruising, and to see how he did. He is an only child and we didn't know how he would take to the kids club, pool, dinner, etc. From the minute we drove up, we were amazed at the quality and efficiency of the service Disney provided. They were extremely organized and we were parked, screened, baggage taken, checked in, pictures taken, and kids club registered in about 30 minutes total. We were on the ship so quickly, it was almost too much to handle at once! Our room was ready, our bags arrived within an hour and we were at the pool having a slice of pizza and a cocktail one hour after driving up to the cruise port. One complaint- the pizza was terrible. Now, we are from Dallas, and I have worked for a dining magazine, so my review of all culinary aspects of the boat is a little biased, I am afraid. But the pizza- it really was bad. You would think pizza is not something that can be screwed up easily, especially when it is the staple of many children's (and adult's) diet, and the fact that it is so cheap to make. Anyway- the Rum Runners made up for the bad slices, and away we went to the beat of the sail away party music. We missed the show the first night, but we heard it was fantastic- a sort of Golden Oldies review of sorts, with exquisite costumes and talented performers. We took our son to the kids club (he had eaten at the pool soon after boarding- alas, not the pizza...), so we knew he would not eat much in the dining room. He went right in to the club, and we were quite impressed with the safety and atmosphere the kids area provided. Armed with our pager, we headed to Triton's, our first restaurant. The host immediately asked where our son was after seating us, and called him by name! This was especially impressive due to the fact we had changed our original reservation from the 5:45 seating to the 8:15. Our food and drinks were really outstanding- especially the filet mignon. And again- we are from Dallas, the land of steaks. The second day we were in Nassau all day, and we attended the Toy Story show that evening before dinner. It was very well done- definitely something you would pay to see at home as a major production. Dinner was in the Animator's Palate- quite a meal complete with changing colors throughout the room and a nice show at the end. The third day was supposed to be spent in Castaway Cay- Disney's own island. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and we were unable to dock the boat and were forced to remain onboard for the remainder of the trip. We went to the movie theater and saw The Princess and the Frog, much to the enjoyment of our son (and us, too!). We also attended the Dreams show, and again were blown away by the talent, sets and attention to detail throughout the show. Dinner was in the Parrot Cay restaurant, my least favorite of the three we tried, but it was still a good meal. (I had steak all 3 nights!) Finally, we awoke the last morning with hopes of seeing the space shuttle launch, but it too was cancelled due to the weather. Leaving the boat was bittersweet- we had great memories, but were sad to say goodbye to our great waitstaff and cabin attendants. We had a final breakfast and were able to see our servers for the last time. Getting to our luggage and car was as smooth as it was when we got on the boat- it was so organized, there seemed little room for error or delays. We got in our car and waved goodbye at the Wonder. It was a great trip. That said, we learned a few things: 1. We will not cruise again in February. It was not warm enough. Period. 2. We will go longer next time. 3 nights is just not enough. Period. 3. We will not eat at Parrot Cay- next time we will go to Palo that night and take our son to the kid's club since Palo is an adult only restaurant. 4. We will not miss any show- they were the best part of the cruise! 5. We won't waste our time on the pizza:)

Cabin Review

Cabin 9C

We had an oceanview room and we were quite happy with the space, size of the porthole and the storage.
