First Cruise Wont Be Our Last

Sail Date: December 2009
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Miami

This was our first cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed freestyle cruising. The embarkation was super easy. We didnt eat in any of the speciality restaurants. We ate at the buffet the first day for lunch. We stayed on the pool deck for dinner and the sail away party. The hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken etc. was great. We ate at the buffet for breakfast everyday. We ate at Crossing and the Palace for dinner two of the nights. The night we ate at Crossings they had the surf and more surf which consisted of scallops, shrimp, lobster tail and a piece of fish. They brought the ones who had that another lobster tail. We thought the baby shrimp cocktail was terrible. The night we ate at the Palace we all ordered the steak and asked for baked potatoes instead of fries and they had no problem with doing that. We thought the desserts were very good (except for on the buffet). We all enjoyed the ice cream on the pool deck. We enjoyed ordering the buffalo wings at Longboards and the cheesecake. We More would get it to go and take it back to our room. We ordered room service one evening for my son who had been looking forward to that the whole time. The service was very fast.

Our room steward Furtado was so sweet and caring. He always provided excellent service and did a different towel animal every night for us. One evening my son and I were on the balcony and he asked if we would like to see how he made a towel animal. We tipped him extra just for the great care he showed us the whole time making sure we had everything we needed. We traveled with our two boys one is 14 and the other one is 10. The 14 yr old had dinner with us one night. When we were on the boat he was in the teen club with the other kids. They always had activities going on i.e. scavenger hunts, games, eating dinner, etc. He made some great friends the counselors were great. My 10 yr old would go in the evening which is the only time they are open when you are in the Port. He always had a great time and loved being there. We are looking forward to the day we get to go on another cruise and plan on taking NCL again. Less

Cabin review: Norwegian Sky Balcony Stateroom Viking Deck 0234

We had a balcony room and thought it was adequate for the amount of time we spent in the room. Our room steward was great and always gave us excellent service. We were on the deck below the outdoor cafe and pool but didnt notice alot of noise or anything.

Port and Shore Excursions

We took a taxi to Port Lucaya for some shopping and visited the beach there. Our taxi driver was named Shirley and she was wonderful. She told us some of the history of the island and had a small quiz for the kids on the ride. When she picked us back up she asked the kids what they remembered from the quiz she had given them. She gave the winner a Bahamian Dollar which thrilled our son. If you decide to take a taxi I would definitely see if you can request her. It cost us $5.00 each way which we felt was reasonable. We didnt enjoy the straw market due to the vendors being extremely pushy. We walked across the road and spent a little time on the beach then headed back to the ship for lunch.

We arranged for a private tour with Godfrey Simms taxi 516 company. He has a website which is how we found him. He took us all over the island including Paradise Island and Atlantis and showed us around it. We visited Cabbage Beach also. We did a city combination tour and saw all the highlights. He was very informative and very nice. He took us to a Bahamian Restaurant for lunch which was included in the price (he would have taken us back to the ship for lunch and waited for us for a cheaper price). We wanted to experience eating in a local place since this was our first time on the island. We ate at a place called Traveler's Rest. It was wonderful. We all tried the cracked conch and really liked it. He gave us alot of information about the island and what is it like living there. The total time of the trip was about 4 or so hours. He dropped us off to do a little shopping and directed us to a young man that sold cleaned conch shells for $5.00 which we felt was reasonable and bought 3 of them. We enjoyed the feel of the island and thought it was very beautiful. I would highly recommend visiting here and arranging a tour to see everything.
