Yes, one of two propellor engines failed while we were at sea, causing our crew to abort our plan to go to Grand Turk (and return us to Nassau, Bahamas for the second time in 3 days). One evening around 10 p.m. we were enjoying Karaoke in the Criterion Lounge when it suddenly started shaking and then violently rattling the wall panels and drinks on the tables. It's when I could smell smoke that I suggested to my travelling companions that we leave this area (the stern) of the ship and perhaps explore our muster station to see if there is any activity going on there! Once outside the lounge, it was like nothing had happened - people were milling about and no one seemed to know about this violent shaking - I bet the people in the dining room below us felt it though!! Seeing nothing out of order from one end of the ship to the other, we went back to the piano bar and enjoyed the rest of the evening. I must admit, sleep was a little while coming that night. I was disappointed in Carnival that they didn't fill us in on what happened until about 10:30 the next morning - we were a little spooked by the whole event and I certainly felt vulnerable for the first time when cruising. Missing Grand Turk was disappointing, but not the end of the world! We'll go there on another ship!

Other than this event, the Destiny offered a typical Carnival vacation... lots of fun, good weather, good food, good value and far too many announcements!

The layout of this ship, and the policy of the cruise line made this ship seem a lot smokier than many that I've been on. For example, the Internet Cafe is a hallway directly off the Onyx Cigar bar and, at times, it's unbearable. To get to the Internet Cafe from one end of the ship you have no choice but to go through the cigar bar. The piano bar is a small area with maybe 12 tables and seats around the piano and it gets a blue haze at times... also unbearable. Even the piano player hated it! The casino is terribly smokey too, but that seems to be the way of all ships.

Cabin Review

Excellent except that there were occasionally people standing at the railing directly above our balcony and we could hear their conversations.
