Always wanted to visit the Fjords and chose this as my first cruise, this being my partners 5th cruise with P&O. We chose the included CPS parking service which.was very good both on arrival and on collecting car at end. Cruise ship staff were very good as was the food, and plenty of it, (if you do not want to be tempted steer clear of the two buffet restaurants), also choose freedom dining instead of set times. There are several bars with different atmospheres. The shows and tribute acts we went to were very good but the fact that they only performed for 30 to 40 minutes was a bit disappointing. The ship itself was vast and it takes a while to find your way although there are plans near each set of lifts.Tours on shore are quite expensive but the one we did in Stavanger was good and people we talked to who had been on others said they were worth doing. Just remember that Norway is very expensive, (a large tin of Pringles £6!!). Weather not too warm and changeable, bit like home. All in all a very enjoyable 7 days.

Cabin Review

Cabin Stern cabin with balcony, part obstructed view

Before sailing we were upgraded to this cabin but having read poor reviews about this cabin concerning noise from the Manhatten Bar directly underneath and the noise of the propeller wash we asked to stay in our original cabin. This was not possible so we took the chance. How pleasantly surprised we were to find that for us these comments were no where near as bad and we had a very nice stay. Yes through the day when the band were rehearsing we could just here it. The prop wash was ok with the balcony door closed and the prop vibration did not bother us. The balcony was well worth it and we would stay in this cabin again. For those who feel noise may be a problem then there are similar cabins on decks above.

Port Reviews

Olden

A nice place to see but unless you book a tour, (especially the glacier tour evidently), there is not much to do. We did go on a trip on the tourist "train", (similar to the one thats runs along the front at Eastbourne), however it did cost £20 a ticket for a 1 hour ride.

Geiranger

You have to go ashore by tender here and as with Olden unless you have booked a tour there is nothing to do. The area around where the ship docked was beautiful and worth seeing but to to get better views requires a long walk up a steep hillside. This was one of the most spectacular fjords and the scenery whilst sailing out were breath taking.

Bergen

As time is limited here due to an early departure in the afternoon it is best to get out early. Make your first destination, if not on a tour, the funicular railway. It cost 180kr to ride up and back, and if you are not there early the queue becomes massive. The views from the top are well worth seeing. A visit to the fish market is a must and walking the town is the best way, To see it all will require another visit at sometime. A lovely place.
