Having been on the Norwegian Star last year, we were pretty excited to sail on the Epic. The travel agent on board told us so many wonderful things about this ship so we were pumped. We invited family and friends totaling nearly 50 people and had the intention of making this a cruise to remember.
Fast forward to embarkation and we are more than ready to party!! It took about an hour or so to board the ship and we went straight to the whiskey bar because the rooms were not yet accessible. Our first contact with our first bartender was pretty sad. There was roughly about 6 or 8 of us who sat a table and waited for service. The one server at this bar was either too busy or didnt see us so we proceeded to the bar to see what was up. All of us had the UDP and started ordering drinks and asking questions, etc. Unfortunately for us, this man wasn't overly friendly and barely spoke the king's english. He had little to no knowlegde of whiskey and even less about what was available with the UDP. Affter the first thirty minutes, we were unable to get another drink. The place suddenly became packed and still only one bartender available. We walked around for about another hour and finally our rooms were ready.
Upon entering our 10th floor aft balcony cabin the first thing we noticed was the bathroom set-up. Like everyone stated, it was rather strange entering our room and seeing the toilet on our left and a small stand up shower to our right. Both were covered by frosted glass for privacy (ha ha) and then a separate area for the sink. A sofa and king size bed pretty much finished off the room and then of course the balcony. Our room was definitely not guest friendly. My wife and I had a heck of a time getting ready in the morning and evenings. It was impossible for us not to get in each others way. The couch was a waste of space and the square footage extra would have been greatly appreciated. Our phone did not work and I felt the room wasn't completely clean. The European style of this cabin was not to our liking.
As stated above... NOT GREAT!
It was more than adequate. Great job
We love Mescalitos on the opposite side of the island and rented a few jeeps and mopeds to get there. Relaxing on hammocks at the beach eating ceviche and drinking cold beer. Need I say more
We stayed on the ship. Best thing we ever done. No lines and free to roam. Most enjoyable day on the ship we had
