We had never sailed on Norwegian before, but chose this cruise because of the departure date and the appealing destinations. But we were very disappointed and will never sail with them again!! We have been on multiple cruises with Princess and Royal Caribbean, and always found the experience far superior to what we had with NCL.
Here are some of the reasons: (1) They had the audacity to say that their evening entertainment was "delightfully sinful", and that if we were "easily offended" we shouldn't go to several of them...we are not prudes, but being talked down to like that was very offensive. And, you had to pay extra to go to many of their shows! (2) On several of the shore excursions, instead of focusing on the purpose of the tour, we wasted up to an hour sitting around stores that apparently gave NCL a kickback by making us stop there. (3) When they screened everyone as we boarded, they refused to let any of us bring water bottles onboard, claiming it was for "security reasons". But then they posted on every water dispenser on board that we were not allowed to refill our empty water bottles...what a joke! Just another way to nickel and dime us, by forcing us to buy their overpriced water! (4) The only US TV news station that we could watch was MSNBC...the lowest rated news channel in our country! The biased political reporting was disgusting! Fox News Channel or even CNN would have been much better than them! (5) On several nights, we were awakened multiple times by loud banging and slamming of exterior doors of the ship, apparently by crewmembers working on decks below our cabin, perhaps cleaning restaurants and bars. (6) The staff that was responsible for cleaning the counters and tray stands on the buffet lines were very cold and rude, cutting right in front of us without even bothering to smile or simply say "excuse me". (7) The food at the buffet was not very good and the grilled chicken, served every day, was often dry and overcooked.
Overall, the experience we had on our first cruise with Norwegian was very disappointing, and we would never recommend sailing with them. We'll go back to Princess or Royal Caribbean next time we cruise.
For a mini suite, the square footage was smaller than on other cruise lines, but there was excellent storage space. The shower was larger than most, and lighting was adequate.
