We just returned from our trip aboard the Disney Fantasy. We hosted our 2nd family cruise & for the most part, it went off without a hitch. The embarkation went very smoothly & the sail away activity was wonderful. We were able to admire the Disney Wonder in Port Canaveral from the Fantasy before it left for refurbishment.
This was my 5th cruise & I will say that the quality standards that Disney is famous for, have slipped a bit. The ship itself always looks incredible from top to bottom, inside & out. I have traveled on the Dream & the Fantasy & maybe my standards have been set too high, but there were certain things that just did not live up to past cruise experiences.
First, the service within the restaurants definitely left something to the imagination. In past years, the staff knew what you liked to drink, knew that your daughter uses steak sauce with every meal...little things that this staff didn't get until the final days of the cruise. The service was slow for the first few days as well, possibly because they were waiting for the entire table to finish their appetizers before bringing out the main course. In their defense, the waiter did ask if they could start bringing our the main courses sooner, even though others were still eating appetizers. So they did listen & learn from this experience. We went to breakfast at Enchanted Garden & sat for 15 minutes before I had to ask another server if we could at least get some coffee & juice for the table.
I cannot complain about the cabin, it was a typical Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom w/Verandah. Our stateroom host (Carles) provided exceptional service & that was definitely a highlight of this trip.
