We wanted to try a different cruise line (we usually cruise Princess or Holland) and I wanted to cruise on the newly renovated Liberty of the Seas. Also, we usually cruise out of Florida but this ship's port is Galveston, TX. so we thought that would be fun to try something new. The Port of Galveston WILL be nice, once the renovation is done but when we were there, the waiting area was in a tent!! Embarkation process was very time consuming and cumbersome. RCL needs to work on improving this. Once on the ship, we were pleased with the interior renovations and with our cabin. It was not as big as some cruise lines but it was totally sufficient. The bed was just "OK". It wasn't as soft and comfy as Princess or Holland...even though they advertised the mattresses were new. The ports of call on this Western Caribbean Cruise are not so good in my opinion. Not a lot to do and Belize is cordoned off so passengers can't leave the little shopping area and the "banditos" cannot get in. I didn't like that. I will say that the food and dining on this ship/cruise was AWESOME!! The staff bent over backwards to please us, including baking an apple pie for us because I mentioned I'd like some "down home" desserts. Every single meal was delicious...even the café/buffet was good. The FREE frozen yogurt, poolside, is to die for!! BEST frozen yogurt ever!! I'd go back just for that!!! I would recommend this cruise for the ship and the food and the service, but not necessarily for the ports of call. The Eastern and Southern Caribbean is MUCH better.
