Just returning from the 7-day FOS from Port Canaveral (4/3/2016) to Eastern Caribbean with stops in CocoCay / Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas / Philipsburg, St. Maarten. We had a group of 10-people from Colorado that booked the trip one year in advance. The best advice I can give is to travel the day prior to departure and to schedule a late or next day flight home.
We arrived in Orlando (MCO) airport and were picked up by Cocoa Beach Shuttle, and taken to Best Western Cocoa Beach. Our shuttle driver, Evan, made the time on the drive fun & informative. Ron Jon Surf Shop is about a mile away and opened 24-hours a day. Our shuttle driver Evan, told us we must get fish taco's from the Sandbar Sports Grill. The Sandbar Sports Grill had a great atmosphere with live bands and seems to be a local favorite and the taco's were the best. You must try the The Category 5 Hurricane as a great vacation starter! It is a 2 block walk from the Sandbar to Ron Jon's for a any last minute purchase. I would suggest picking up swim shirts, as you are always in the sun!
On Sunday morning Cocoa Beach Shuttle picked us up for the 10-minute ride to Port Canaveral. From being dropped off at 9:30 am, we were checked in, and boarded on FOS in less than 30-minutes. The boarding process was quick & painless. Though we could not get into our rooms until 1:00 PM, we drank, and explored the ship and signed up for last minute Shore Excursions.
Cabin JS-9328 is perfect! The location on the ship makes it easy to get around. Our cabin steward Lizeth was fabulous. She took care of all of our needs. The walk-in closet is very spacious. We had more storage in the cabin then what we knew to do with. The bathroom is also very spacious with a tub/shower. The beds are new and hard. We were concerned at first, but we did not lose any sleep during our stay. The balcony was awesome with 2 loungers, 2 chairs & a table. The forward view was unobstructed, but due to the "hump" in the middle, you cannot see the aft. With just two flights of stairs up to the Wind Jammer, and the pool deck, no waiting on elevators. The best thing is that when there are no deck chairs to lay in the sun, you have your own private oasis on your balcony for use at any time.
St. Maarten is a nice place to relax and unwind. There is a lot to see and do. Beware of the jewelry shopping and do not buy from the first place. Deals can be had.
