On arrival at the Sheridan a parking attendant offered me a "deal" to save me money on parking if I paid him cash, no receipt of course. Embarkation hotel wasn't prepared for guests. Several walked out of restaurant after waiting an hour for food, service was slow. Pretrip excursion was good and transfer to the boat went smoothly.
Was booked into a AAA suite on starboard side, turned out to be a bad choice. Boat travels at night and usually docked in wee hours of the morning, got awakened by freight train assembly at 4 am and then a follow up by dumpster delivery at 6 am. Suites with direct access to exterior deck are entertained by crew clearing rain water from deck with squeeges again at 4am! Starboard side is also where they unload the luggage in New Orleans, why at 1:30am I have no idea. Only lasted a little over a hour.
Attended the disembarkation meeting and learned we needed to buy tickets for a bus trip to move us and our luggage to Hilton lobby to get our car rental. On arrival at the Hilton learned we had to drag our luggage back across the street into the strip mall "next to the boat" to get to the car rental desk. Did get to "pass" the shore excursion director on the way back. It would have been a shorter luggage drag from the boat. Overall, my last voyage on the American Queen.
Great except for the early morning wake ups.
