Our cruise started out on a very positive note. We had the fastest embarkation that we have ever experienced. No lines at all. (disembarkation was the opposite!) Things went downhill from the moment we got on the ship. One car in the main elevator bank was broken. It remained that way for the entire cruise. Hoards of passengers crowded around the remaining elevators , becoming ever more impatient with every full car that passed. Some almost came to blows when people would try to cut in line. It took twenty minutes to get to our cabin. Slow and crowded elevators were a constant problem throughout the cruise.
Our cabin was attractive and well appointed but very small, even for two people. The circular shower was absolutely miniscule! It was immediately obvious that there were problems with this cabin. The refrigerator did not work, and worst of all, the toilet had no water in the bowl and required filling with a glass from the sink whenever it needed to be flushed. It was two full days before these problems were remedied with nary an apology from RCL. The one good thing about our cabin was our room steward, Ari. Despite our erratic schedules. he managed to keep our cabin perfectly ordered and never failed to greet us by name, with a big smile, every time he would see us. The towel animals he made were amazing!
The interior of the ship is quite pretty but it is a bit schizophrenic in its style. Warm and elegant in some areas such as the Safari Club, Casino, and even the Windjammer, and somewhere between art nouveau and contemporary in other areas such as the Theater. Perhaps some of these changes happened in the last refitting.
The ship was made to dock at the naval yard as opposed to more convenient docking locations. This required having to take a trolley into town - inconvenient. The port itself is a nice reintroduction to the "real world", and is a fun port, with lots of activities that can be done on your own.
