This was our fourth time cruising with Norwegian and was the second part of a two week back-to-back cruise. The previous week was the 7 day Adriatic cruise on the Jade from Venice to Dubrovnik, Athens, Kusadasi and Split. Since we were staying for the next cruise on the Jade in the same cabin we had breakfast and headed out to tour Venice for the day.
Our cabin was on deck 10 just aft of the mid-ship elevators. We really liked this location as it was convenient to walk up two flights of stairs to the Garden Cafe and pool deck and down to the Atrium/dining rooms. It was also quiet. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and did an excellent job. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Garden Cafe buffet and dinner in one of the dining rooms. The food and service in both dinning rooms were very good but we preferred the ambiance of the Grand Pacific dinning room. The buffet suited us just fine as our schedule was different each day and it was quick. We didn't book any of the specialty restaurants.
I had done a fair bit of research before the cruise so we didn't book any shore excursions. I found Fodor's "European Cruise Ports of Call" very helpful in terms of what to expect when you arrive in the port and what to see/do when you are there. Here are some things to keep in mind. In Corfu if you are just touring the town you can walk into town (30 to 40 minutes) but there is an inexpensive city bus that goes directly there. In Santorini we planned to hike from Fira to Oia (3 hours) so we wanted to get on one of the first tenders to avoid the congestion at the cable car. I went down about an hour ahead of the time they said they would start handing out tender passes and got tender #2. This worked out fine as there was no line up when we got to the cable cars (some people waited an hour). Mykonos also required a tender but this drops you right in the heart of the town which is great. Our last stop was in Katakolon where we wanted to go the beach. We thought we would have to take a taxi but as we were walking along the main street we discovered a "train" which was what I would call a trolley that runs every 20 mins or so to a local winery and beach for 6 euros a person round trip. Nice beach with a few umbrellas and lounges.
