Before the Cruise: We flew into San Juan the day before and stayed at The Sheraton Old San Juan. It is right across the street from the port and, in my opinion, the best place to stay before a cruise. They will hold your luggage for you the day of embarkation if you want to tour San Juan before you board the ship. When you are ready to board, just walk across the street. No taxi needed!!

Embarkation: One of the fastest embarkations I have ever experienced! We arrived at the port at 1:30 and we were in our room by 2:00. We didn’t have priority boarding, so we were surprised at how quickly everything went.

The Ship: The ship is typical Carnival. Bright colors and fabrics that remind one of the Vegas strip. All of the venues were clean and well-maintained. My only issue was with the pools. The blue paint on the bottom of the pools comes off on your feet. Every time you get out of the pool, you have blue feet!! Also, it would be nice if there was a pool in the Serenity area of the ship (adults only). I love laying in that area because it is quiet and the lounges have cushions, but it gets really hot and it would be nice to have a pool to cool off in.

Cabin 8D

I was a little worried that it would be noisy. I was surprised at how quiet it was! You could not hear any noise from the pool and it was convenient to everything. I will definitely be booking Lido cabins in the future! As far as the room goes, it looked like a typical Carnival cabin. I love how they provide free water to VIFP guests now. There was one big bottle (per guest) in each cabin.

Port Reviews

St. Thomas

We chose not to book an excursion in this port. Instead, we walked around the vast shopping area and to the Sky Ride to Paradise Point. It is a little pricey ($21 per person) but the views are phenomenal. It is definitely one of the “can’t miss” attractions in St. Thomas.

St. Lucia

We hired a cab and had it take us to Reduit Beach. It was a 20 minute drive from the port and it was absolutely beautiful. There were lounge chairs and umbrellas available for rent, as well as water sports, beach volleyball etc. The only downside is there really aren’t many places to grab lunch. We found one restaurant on the beach and it was really expensive.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

We toured the port on our own here. The shopping area is really nice with lots of little shops and restaurants. There are also guys walking around with monkeys for photo ops. They are so cute!!
