Having sailed on nine cruises now on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Disney, Celebrity, and Norwegian, this cruise aboard the Norwegian Sun was very disappointing and not at all what we expected.
The dining was very poor with the exception of the "pay" restaurants, which were just average. One of the reasons my wife and I cruise regularly is that we enjoy not worrying about paying the dinner bill - not true here and it took some of the fun out of the cruise. The main dining rooms where you did not have to pay a cover charge were poorly staffed with inattentive, and sometime outright rude, staff. The food sounded wonderfully on the menu, but consistently came out cold, dry, flavorless and tasteless. The dining room was frequently very cold and, while my wife and I did not complain, another couple at another table did and the waiter sharply responded "just hold your soup bowl" and he walked off. This was ironic as the soup was cold.
The Buffet dining was average. We found ourselves eating here more than planned due to our frustration with the dining rooms. The food was the same every night, and of low quality. We ate in several of the pay restaurants and we disappointed in the experience, due in large part to the fact we had to pay to get what most cruise lines include. All of the pay restaurants were "average" in our experience, akin to the main dining rooms on other cruise lines. The one exception was Il Adagio which was a wonderful experience. We at here three times because the staff here was friendly and the food was good and plentiful. The Le Bistro restaurant was overpriced and not up to what we would expect for an extra $25 per person.
Stewards are not up to cruise line standards, but the room was quite nice. Large with plenty of storage and a nice balcony with great balcony chairs.
