It was our 7th cruise ( 6 with Celebrity and 1 with Royal Caribbean). Celebrity is still great, the Millennium has aged but it had been refurbished since our 2004 trip. Our only complaint was that the cabin had a definite cigarette smell... We traveled with friends, we were a group of 8. The night before our cruise we stayed at La Quinta Airport Inn in Vancouver. It was very reasonable ( $125.), had a free shuttle from the airport and arranged for a shuttle the next morning to the port ( please note that Celebrity uses the Ballantyne pier and not the Cruiseship pier), the shuttle was a reasonable $13 each. We got there at 11 AM when the boarding started, the process is made longer than usual because we have to clear customs. Celebrity still excels as far as service goes, the food is always superb as well. One of our group has allergies and extra care was made when she ordered the night before each dinner. We also expressed interest in visiting the galley and the Maitre d' arranged a visit for our group. That is personal service !! Our naturalist on board, Mylos did a good job and kept us interested in the Inside Passage as well as at the Hubbard Glacier. His lectures were very humorous and interesting. The entertainment was the usual, except we would have preferred more dancing music. Ketchikan : We walked to the Totem Heritage Center and the Salmon Interpretive Center, it was OK. The real attraction here is Creek st. as well as the South Alaska Museum, just near the pier. Very interesting.
Juneau: We took a shuttle ( $14) to the Mendenhall Glacier and hiked 2 hours on the East Glacier trail, not to be missed!!Then went to the Mt Robert funicular ( $24), nice view, interesting movie, the trails were still full of snow, nice boutique. We finished the day at the Red Dog Saloon.
Icy Strait Point : Not much to do there except walk to Hoonah and enjoy Halibut pizza !
