Sail Date: Mar 2014

We traveled from Amsterdam to Basel on the Viking Sun in March this year. It was our first river cruise and so we were unsure what to expect. We need not have worried, it was simply wonderful. After arriving in Amsterdam our every need was taken care of. Our luggage was taken care of and appeared in our cabin as if by magic. The staff were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they took a genuine interest in us as people. The trips out were excellent, very interesting guides who really knew the areas we were taken to. The extra trip to the Mercedes factory was fascinating and well worth going on. We particularly liked the fact that we were offered bottled water before going on a trip, a thoughtful extra.

The entertainment on board was superb and we felt that everybody was catered for.

When we had finished our trip in Basel the service did not end there. As we had a late flight we were treated to an extra trip around Basel and then returned to complimentary lunch on board, something that other companies do not seem to provide.

Cabin Review

Cabin Middle deck

This cabin had half height windows which opened if wanted. As it was early in the season we did not feel it necessary to have a French Balcony cabin. If we wanted our own company we could retreat to our cabin and sit in our comfy chairs and watch the world go by. The cabin was a good size, the beds were comfortable and we slept well. We enjoyed having the 'view from the bridge' and relevant films on demand. The cabin was made up each day by an excellent maid who looked after us well, we even had a towel sculpture on one occasion!
