Ship Facts: Pacific Jewel Review (by Cruise Critic!)
What a disappointment.

This was a cruise for family and friends to celebrate my partners 60th Birthday. As we had both cruised with P & O on the Jewel as recently as 12 months ago, and the fact that the cruise date had my partners birthday on the Saturday night of the cruise we chose this one.

What a mistake!! The customer service all all areas was poor , about a 1 star rating. It was difficult to find any staff that wanted to serve you. The hygiene on board was almost non existent, and no emphasis was placed on hand sanitizing ,resulting in an out break of vomiting and diarrhea throughout the ship. So much so that the ship was inspected on return to Sydney by the health Department and samples were taken.

We have cruised as I said with P & O before and also with other cruise lines over an eight year period and I can say that P & O have an inferior product on this ship.

The only staff member that seemed interested in customer service was our Cabin Steward who was friendly and helpful at all times.

Buffet food was disgusting and tasteless. Waterfront food food was nice but potion control was non existent. 6 people ordered similar or the same meals and not one had conformity, at times it looked like it had just been thrown on the plate with no care taken to ensure the sizing and presentation was correct.

Waiter Service was poor and unfriendly, they were more happy to talk among them selves than serve you.

After complaining we were moved to another section at Dinner service and were treated much better but it was still not without it's problems, at that stage I knew complaining again would not help as the standard of service was as good as we would get.

Drink waiters in all areas were scarce and unresponsive which I found really unusual as this is where most cruise lines excel.

P & O have also removed the evening turn down bed service and evening refreshing of the cabins which is also poor, again all other lines do this.

Overall I would not recommend P & O again to anyone. You are paying a cheaper fare, but when you take into account the charges for items such as , decent coffee, Pizza ,ice-cream and room service , which are free on board with other lines ,it really is that you are paying more for an inferior product.

P & O really need to step it up if they are going to compete with other lines for the ever increasing market.
