Sail Date: January 2014
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

We like to get away in January. We have previously used Costa Cruises on 4 previous trips and had done the same ( almost ) itinerary once before. Pacifica is known to us as we have sailed on her once before. We booked thro' Cruise Club 1 month before embarkation date as it seemed a bargain. The flight from Newcastle suited us. The arrangements worked well ( Easyjet ) and we arrived in Barcelona on time. on time. Our transfer taxi was waiting to meet us and we were taken to the ship with only the two of us in the car. . This was part of the Costa package. There was no queue at the terminal and we did the baggage drop and were straight into the terminal. There was a slight delay as we were behind a group but 5 minutes waiting doesn't really count!

Onto the ship with no delay and we were greeted by a nice lady and asked if we knew the ship and where we were going. This class of boat is easy to know as they are all very similar indeed!

Into the cabin we went and were More well pleased. We had upgraded to a premium cabin and were pleased; it was large being a Mini suite having disabled facilities . Our stewardess was most pleasant and helpful and soon realised that we made a slow start to the day.

1st sitting for evening meal as we had requested, a table for 6 and pleasant waiters with the usual Costa style - largely informal with families around here & there. The Italian schools were still on holiday but the large ship just swallowed up the children and there was no disruption for the oldies. The lack of a wine waiter made it slow to get an extra drink but it always came! The menu is varied and suited us fine and we really enjoy the Italian night! We had breakfast in the cabin every day- slow start for us.

We enjoyed the entertainment - singing/ dancing revues and the crew show. Being a little eldery, we would retire to our spacious cabin around 10.30 - 11.00 ( early for a Costa boat ) and enjoy a quite end to the day. We went to a late piano bar once and the music was excellent, the beer was good but it just got a bit late for us!

The ports were familiar to us and we enjoyed them without any ship's excursions. The usual little tourist trains are fine for us and they are waiting on the quayside for the passengers.

Disembarkation worked a treat and we waited a while for our taxi back to the airport and we were on time, the flight was on time ( Easyjet ) and we got back to Newcastle on time and very pleased as it was just what we had expected based on our other Costa cruises.

This was typical Costa - brash at times, noisy in the public fun areas and always well organised. The one sea day made the restaurants a little full for lunch with a full ship but the buffet coped well given a little patience and understanding from the passengers Less

A MINI SUITE converted for disabled access gave us wide doors, v. large shower room and lots of space.
