Up until this point, we have travelled with our children on the mega ships, which seemed to have been the right choice for us at that time. However, on the occasion of our 30th anniversary we chose to do it a little more low-key and upscale. We were not disappointed. It is a beautiful ship, elegantly decorated, intimately designed , with smaller gathering rooms;, where you can sit and enjoy a violinist and pianist playing beautiful classic music or a piano bar where everyone is singing along to classic pop hits. Many evenings we would have an evening drink on lido deck, after a fabulous dinner in one of the specialty restaurants.
We would definitely take another cruise on the Holland America Niuew Amsterdam. Just a few things that could use improvement. All of the evening shows were pretty awful Except The Improv comediennes who were hilarious and the Cruise ship band. 5 stars for them!.
Staff in main dining room seemed stressed and anxious to get us out of the dining room. The opposite was true of the specialty restaurants. Staff promptly knew our likes and catered to us without becoming annoying.
Beautiful cabin. Lots of room. Scenic views were great. Los of closet space. Great location on the ship. No noise.
