The Ocean Princess

Sail Date: August 2013
Destination: Europe - British Isles & Western
Embarkation: Dover

The Ocean Princess is a beautiful and well maintained ship. We felt safe at all times as the Captain and officers really emphasised all the safety procedures and the importance they place on the personal safety of their passengers and crew.

The ship itself is lovely with polished wood and brass throughout. Everywhere offers comfortable seating from bars and lounges to restaurants and theatres. Being a smaller ship, we never had a problem finding somewhere to sit for meals or shows and so forth.

Food on board was of a very high standard and always delicious. My husband and I opted to sit at a dining table for 8 people and quickly made new friends which made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. The restaurant staff who waited on us were superb. They were very professional but also great fun and we enjoyed their company as well as the service they provided. A special mention for Joel and Buddy, we miss you!

Our mini suite was spacious and just lovely. More The bed was extremely comfortable and we had the best night's sleep for ages! We had a bath plus shower, hairdryer, nice toiletries, and soft fluffy towels. Dennis our cabin steward kept our suite immaculate during our stay, and was also a great personality himself. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he met all our requests quickly and efficiently.

All the crew on board Ocean Princess were very friendly and helpful. The Captain frequently mentioned that the ship has a reputation for friendliness and it's true. We were really made to feel valued and important.

When sailing, the ship is quite steady, although there was a bit of swaying about at one point during our cruise around the north of Scotland. I felt queasy so missed dinner and instead went to bed to be horizontal! I think several other people felt the same. However the ship soon steadied up and it hasn't put me off sailing on smaller ships in future.

Entertainment on the ship was of a very high standard with excellent singers, dancers, comedians, musicians and magicians.

Shore excursions arranged by Princess were quite expensive but we booked a few and found them to be well organised, interesting and enjoyable.

I should also just mention the disembarkation procedure - it is incredibly efficient! What could potentially be a nightmare for passengers is in fact a fast and simple affair. We put a coloured tag on our cases & put them outside our cabin. We got up next day, had breakfast, went to the ship's disembarkation meeting place at 8am, and by 8.06 (six minutes later) we were exiting Dover terminal with our cases! We were amazed at how effortless it was, no massed crowds pushing & shoving or anything like that. Whoever thought up this disembarkation scheme deserves a medal.

Finally in summary, the Ocean Princess is a lovely friendly ship with excellent staff on board, great food and entertainment and very comfortable staterooms. I would recommend this ship to others without hesitation! Less

Cabin review: Ocean Princess Mini-Suite with Balcony Deck Eight 8001

Ocean Princess mini suite 8001. On starboard side towards front of ship & near the bridge. Quiet location, handy for looking over the side of ship to watch tenders being lowered etc. Nice large balcony. Bathroom has bath with shower (you step into the bath for a shower)
