Ship Facts: Independence of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Independence of the Seas Deck Plans
Independence of the Seas... I would not recommend
For our anniversary, we did the RC Independence of the seas eight day cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale to St. Kitts, St Maarten, and San Juan & Labadee December 8 2012.

The old terminal took two and one half hours to get through with long lines, no air conditioning, no one guiding passengers to the proper lanes and a check in staff that didn't have a clue what they were doing or how to work the laptops. The only good thing was it wasn't raining.

The room appeared clean and the service from the hard working steward was very good.

Our balcony was on the 8th deck with a nice view, but the plastic strap chairs were very uncomfortable. Smoking from other balconies will drift into your space. I you wanted to get a lounger on the upper deck you need to get up by 6: am, everyone would place things on the chairs to reserve them and then come back an hour or two later.

The dining room was so understaffed that lunch took an hour and a half and you had better savor whatever you had to drink because no one ever returned for refills. The soda card @ $58 is a rip-off with watered down drinks. They ran out of some foods and ice tea on day six.

St. Kitts & St. Maarten were good for shopping. Labadee has a nice private beach, old San Juan was a waste of time and standing in a long slow moving line to board in the cold rain was lots of fun.

I don't know what has happened to RC service. We enjoyed cruising on other RC ships but the wife said it will be a long time before we try RC again. This is the worst run ship we have ever been on.

Would I recommend this ship to anyone? No.
