Did not meet expectations

Sail Date: September 2012
Destination: Canada & New England
Embarkation: Montreal

This was our first cruise on HAL. We must commend the cruise line for very timely embarkation and debarkation. It was the best we've ever experienced. The cabin was always tidy. Although the decor is looking tired. Our main criticism is with the buffet, main dining room and specialty dining. Most of the time the food was only warm. At times the food was cold. Other times the food was inedible and was sent back. The coffee in main dining, regardless of the time of day was always lukewarm. We had to specify cream for the coffee or they used milk. Ugh! One evening we wanted to send the entree back and had to wait possibly 15 minutes for help from the waiter. We were then rushed through our second choice entree as they wanted to clean the table.
We would not choose this ship again and probably would not choose HAL again after our experience. We feel we did not get value for money spent.

Regarding port of call: Charlottetown is not listed. It was the best excursion More we took. It was booked through AAA. We were on a small bus with perhaps 20 to 24 people. The driver/guide was a native of PEI and very knowledgeable. Our tour was called Island Drive and Anne of Green Gables. The guide took us through the city of Charlottetown showing us homes from the average to extremely pricey. He knew who owned the pricey homes and how long they lived on the island. His knowledge of Green Gables was phenomenal as was his general knowledge of the island.

We also booked a tour through AAA for Sydney, Nova Scotia. We boarded the coach bus to take the Bird Island of Cape Breton boat tour. It was canceled about 20 minutes after we left the terminal due to rough seas. We did not opt for any other tour due to time left in port. Less

City Tour

(3)
The tour was called Best of Both Worlds. This was a tendered port which went very smoothly. Ships employees very experienced. The tour guide was fair, read all info from note cards. Any questions seemed to stump her. The bus driver was much more knowledgeable. Very commercialized port. Probably wouldn't visit again.

Halifax

(5.5)
The tour was through the cruise line. Heart of Historic Halifax. The tour guide was superb. Weather was rainy and cool but expected.
