More than met my expectations

Review for a Africa Cruise on Zuiderdam

Itinerary- Africa at the top of my bucket list. Most ports were readily available to walk through. Ship tours ranged in price- from inexpensive to YIKES! Even though I now travel solo, I was comfortable and at ease. Staff on board exceptional- always willing to answer questions, give directions when we got lost or needed more information. Cabin stewards were always going the extra mile to make ...

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zuiderdam

This is our 15th cruise, and second on HAL. Holland America's service is outstanding as is the food. Yes, the Zuiderdam is an older ship, but, a well maintained and clean vessel. This ship is for the older crowd, as it doesn't have climbing walls or ice skating rings. What is does have is almost daily Culinary classes, which I rate a 3, and too many daily Trivia Pursuit games in the Crow's ...

EMBARKATION. It was a breeze at the terminal in Civitavecchia as half of the Zuiderdam’s passengers were staying on from the previous cruise. With no lines, we were processed in minutes. Within 30 minutes boarding was opened and we all headed for the ship to start our adventure. Holland America Lines, Zuiderdam was built in 2002 and holds almost 2,000 passengers. We had traveled on her once ...

Many Wonders, Some Special Moments, Occasional Sour Notes with 16 Ports

HAL put together a 7 day Greece with a 19 day transAtlantic cruise calling it a "Collectors Journey". They promised different meals and shows over the 26 days but repeated the menus and the shows from the first 7 days into the transatlantic. The ports brought the magic: Athens, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Katakalon, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Alicante, ...

The Great, the Good, the Average, the Bad, and the Ugly of 7 Days on Zuiderdam

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Zuiderdam

The great was the aft Neptune Suit with the wrap around balcony. After more than a dozens cruises in various levels of cabins, we found our dream with the aft and wrap around balcony. Even with a very port-intensive cruise this was an idea cabin. The good were the ports, in particular Kusadasi and Santorini. Got private tours to Ephesus at Kusadasi and of Santorini. Rhodes was fun, but we just ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary, taking us from Venice, through the Greek Isles, ending in Turkey. This was a perfect follow-up to our 1-month driving trip through Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, and finally to Venice where we met our ship. We were tired and ready to let someone else do the driving, food service, laundry, and decision-making. Though we travel ...

This was my first cruise on HAL, after having cruised with Oceania, Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. It may not be my last, but were I to do this again, it's not going to be on the Zuiderdam, which needs to go into dry dock in a bad way. Yes, I know it was just there in April, but interior decoration was apparently not on the list. We had cabins 4166 and 4170 (originally ...

Chose this cruise for the wonderful ports and the dates as it was my 60th. Stayed in a Neptune Suite on deck 6 and it was perfect. Initially after booking I had read quite a few negative reviews, but to the contrary we couldn't fault anything. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. The Pinnacle Grill was well worth a visit for the most wonderful steak. We could also breakfast there (part of ...

First HAL cruise exceeded all expectations.

We booked our first HAL cruise (22 night Mediterranean) with a little apprehension after reading the many mediocre reviews on this site. I will preface this review by saying that my husband and I are both 47 and our main concern was that the ship would be old and tired and the clientele ready for the nursing home! We have cruised with Royal Caribbean on 5 previous occasions, and with Celebrity ...

Very enjoyable cruise

We found the ship, although dates, clean and well kept. Our stateroom was small but functional. The bed was comfortable and there was adequate storage. The balcony furniture left a lot to be desired but we were still able to enjoy great views. The two thinks lacking that we will look for on our next cruise ship were free wifi and do it yourself laundry. The wifi on the ship was expensive and ...
