"Bringing Back some of the traditions we love about Holland America:
Lunch in the Main Dining Room on embarkation day, the Captain’s Brunch for 4- and 5-star Mariners, (with the traditional “dam ships” toast and tiles), chocolates at night and towel critters at least on gala nights. The Ports:
With one exception (listed under the not-so-good) the ports were interesting and fitting to the cruise...."Read More

1-10 of 25 Holland America Line Zuiderdam Cruise Reviews for Family to Canada & New England
Zuiderdam Boston to Quebec City b2b Quebec City to Boston 8/26/2023-9/92023
My wife and I have over fifty cruises and our favorite cruise lines are, in no particular order, Holland America, Princess and Celebrity. We would not turn down a Royal Caribbean or Carnival if the timing and itinerary were to our liking. We chose the b2b Boston-Quebec-Boston for a two week get away aboard ...
We had a great cabin - aft, veranda - that we loved. No diesel, smoke/ash and little noise from Lido above. Great views, tiny sitting area.
We chose to take meclizine, starting the night before our cruise. This was the most sea we've seen on any cruise (still topped out at 2+ meters - 7-8 foot swells) and were both fine. I had anxiety but no actual motion sickness. There was an outbreak of ...
As one of Holland America’s Legendary Cruises (and also as one of the most expensive), the Voyage of the Vikings on the Zuiderdam, which sailed July 22-August 26, 2023, should have been nothing short of epic. It fell short of that goal, but was still very good and certainly worthwhile.
This review will cover the good things we experienced, as well as the not-so-good things.
THE GOOD ...
I see there are a few other reviewers of this particular cruise that didn't like the fact we couldn't anchor in Charlottetown, PEI. Them's the breaks, folks. You can't control the weather. I thought we were very fortunate overall with the weather given the timeframe, with Sydney, NS being the only problem spot.
My only gripe with this is that the printed itinerary (which I booked a month ...
We have been on the Zuiderdam before but it has been several years. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they have done a nice job refurbishing the ship and adding some new features. Like some of the other ships in the Holland America line, they have added the America's Test Kitchen, Lincoln Center Stage, BB King's Blues Club, and Billboard Onboard. The crew on this ship was fantastic - ...
Choose this cruise for its itinerary. Ireland / Iceland / Greenland, wow.
All cruises have their plus and minuses.
Major plus was the limited passengers (under 1700), and the route.
Minuses was the disappointment in the food.
Signature suite 6055 was nice and roomy.
Entertainment good, services great (go find David in the Oceans Bar for the 4-5pm happy hour, he has great ...
As always, this review will try to focus on the little things that might be missed, along with the details that may be overlooked in a broader review. This is especially true for the independent travelers who may wander off and do things on their own in each location.
Rotterdam Pre -cruise/ Embarkation: We flew into Amsterdam and took the train to Rotterdam. Sine there were four of us, I took ...
Booked this cruise because of the itinerary. I live in Florida and look forward to seeing the change of seasons. This fall cruise from Quebec to Ft.. Lauderdale had lots of change of scenery and weather. I was unprepared for the snow that fell in Quebec during October; however, it was light and delightful for this Floridian. From snow to the shores of Florida -- lots of change of ...
This is a great cruise itinerary. I highly recommend it, even though rough seas kept us from visiting Prince Edward Island.
Of course, the staff on the ship are great. Cruise ship staff never cease to amaze me. We like this size ship; not super small, but not huge.
The food was wonderful. I love the big salad bowls in the Lido. We had friendly and attentive staff in the dining room. ...
We picked this NYC to Quebec cruise to see New England and Canadian Fall colours but we picked to early in the season to do that.
Pre cruised 4 days in NYC and post cruised with 2 day stays in each of Quebec, Montreal and Toronto.
Departure was relocated from Manhattan to Brooklyn due to damage at Manhattan terminal so was pretty disorganise ashore and messed up transfers.
Holland America ...
