This is our fourth, and now last, Windstar cruise. The ship, the Windstar, is run down and tacky. The food was awful. The equipment in the “gym” creeky and poorly maintained. Lastly the shore excursions were often boardering on worthless. Internet? $245 a week for minimal and often nonexistent service. And all this for a premium price. Windstar needs to up its game considerably if it want to play in the premium market. Right now it a mid level experience with a too high price tag. Maybe it’s that the smaller ships aren’t as profitable but they have ignored the Windstar. When I complained, it took many tries to get an answer. The food was not fresh because we never docked in a port only anchored. Really? The poor satellite reception for the TV and internet was due to ground and sea interferences. Isn’t this 2019? All in all, it’s time to move on from Windstar. Read Less

Booked this cruise due to itinerary and being a small ship. The whole cruise was terrible starting with the ship not arriving into New York at 1 pm instead we boarded at 11.30 pm. Our first port of call was cancelled with a $55 refund ! Very little to do on board on the sea days. Food very average and sometimes cold. Shore excursions over priced and poorly run with guides that did not speak very clear English. The ship always docked way out of the towns, whilst other cruise ships docked in the towns. The information on the daily news sheet was never correct. There was no evening entertainment apart from two singers who were not very good and required an ipad to sing the words. Our cabin, whilst spacious, was old with the door not closing (requiring a total lock replacement) the shower over the bath did not drain and one of the vanity basins did not work. The cruise was a total nightmare with the detailed credit on our final statement never refunded. In 40 years of cruising this was just the worst ever. Read Less

We sailed from Venice thru two ports in Croatia (Hvar and Dbrovnik); Kotor, Montnegro; Butrint, Albania; Katakolon, Greece; Itea, Greece; Nafplion, Greece; then finished in Athens. As a side note, Katakolon, Greece is absolutely the worst destination I have ever experienced. The ship was in need of many, many repairs. The toilets on the Port side of the ship were inoperative everytime the ship was in port. The head of housekeeping said it was from a guest flushing something like a t-shirt down the toilet; however, the plumbing crew said it was a vacuum leak that they couldn't find, but not to worry because they experience this every cruise. We were forced to move rooms to the starboard side towards the front of the ship (luckily we had smooth waters to sail), causing us to repack then unpack our bags in the middle of the journey. Although the ship was a disaster maintenance-wise, the crew was outstanding. From the waiters to the porters, everbody was outstanding in the rank and file level of staff; however, there was a huge communication problem between management and the guests regarding the problems on this ship, and excuses were being made and they weren't owning up to the problem. I would not sail with Windstar again after this voyage, and especially would not sail on the Star Pride--she is long in the tooth and in need of many, many repairs. Read Less

We had never cruised before, and I thought that the "brand new" Star Pride would be a good option to take to see if we liked cruising. First let me say that the staff is top notch and five star in every way possible, and in no way does this review reflect on them. Rather, it is corporate management, Hans Birkholz et al, that is receiving this one star rating (and I am being generous). Shame, shame, shame on him for not properly refurbishing this ship when he took ownership of it. While Windstar certainly marketed the Star Pride as being "new", it is anything but. Although a couple of the common areas got an update, the cabins, hallways, and many other common areas were just plain gross. In a nutshell, I paid Four Seasons prices and got Holiday Inn quality. This ship is old, tired, musty and in dire need of a top to bottom renovation. Some refurbishing of the exterior common areas was being done DURING OUR CRUISE, including copious use of smelly varnish and repainting the one pool on the ship, it was no where near enough. Our cabin had worn, stained, frayed carpet, musty draperies and thin, threadbare linens. The mattress was old, worn and lumpy, and the pillow were old, flat and smelly. Yuck, yuck, yuck. The bathroom "marble" was stained and fixtures were old and worn. The carpet in the hallways and on the stairs is stained and frayed, and the overwhelming musty (mildew?) smell that permeated the interior really set my allergies off. On the upside, the food was outstanding. Kudos to the chef, his staff, and the dining staff - all top notch. Honestly, this cruise was such a turnoff that it has probably soured us on any future cruises - and certainly any future cruises with Windstar. Read Less

Do not cruise on this ship until Windstar has totally updated and repaired this ship, which as the crew told us all needs to be done in dry dock. In brief, the physical plant is deplorable. It is our strong opinion the Xanterra group who took ownership of this ship earlier this year made a poor strategic decision to commission this slightly remodeled vessel realizing the ship was not ready to meet a majority of its customers' expectations. We heard from another cruiser who was also aboard Star Pride's maiden voyage in May that some of the new owners were aboard that sailing. From this same cruiser we learned the ship suffered from basically all of the same ill repair on this maiden voyage as we experienced. Hence, these owners were very aware of its condition. There are plumbing issues. the water in our stateroom shower was black every time we started our shower. We never got hot water in our sink. This was very disconcerting, especially when we demanded someone explain to us after 3 days of complaining, we were told whatever the problem it was not resolvable. This issue continued for the nine days. We are in process of detailing all the facts to the Senior group at Xanterra, and this will include further specifics and pictures of the issues. But in general the pool was dirty the entire trip, jacuzzis worked intermittently, the ship is rusted, with chipped paint everywhere, the main viewing area, the Yacht Club on the ship, while was renovated had the original windows whose seals were broken, fogged and dirty . Staterooms were only minimally renovated but not to any passengers expectations, based on WindStar's own marketing presentations of this ship. Awnings which cover most of the amenity decks were filthy. An easy fix would have been to merely replace deck chairs and loungers with new, but these were aged with chipped paint and sagging seating. In brief a very poor impression and experience. The wifi was only available for an exorbitant cost, the entire crew was complaining of this lack of amenity. And the Spa area was not touched in the renovation so you never felt pampered there. Senior officers were unavailable for comment, but the only saving grace for Windstar on this ship was the Dining and Food Services crew. They were professional, caring and accommodating. And the food was really good and diverse. We were a group of six, a majority of which had sailed on Windstar before, but not one of us will sail this line again. And the most profound reason for our disappointment is that such a reputable organization as Xanterra would make the strategic decision to launch this ship in its current condition. In conclusion, this ship is marketed as a high end "yacht experience" it is more like a "tramp steamer" Read Less
