*Hour wait to get on ship in Whittier, poorly organized *Rooms at McKinley & Denali were like camping or hunting *Hotel Captain Cook was excellent and restaurants were superb *Salmon Berry Tours is excellent in Anchorage *Train ride to Whittier was long, be prepared. No water for purchase *Excursion issues in two cities: Train in front of us derailed for the White Pass Scenic Railway. We had to go backwards to Canada (show passports) and have rescue buses pick us up. A 2h45m tour turned into 6 hours. Got refund but did not care to see the town after that. Juneau- paid for Mendenhall glacier and Whale Quest tour. Guaranteed to see whales! Our most exciting part of the trip was cancelled because the boats were not working. We got to the dock, full bus, just to turn around. Will never see whales. Still waiting for refund. *Engine caught fire on our way back to Vancouver. *Had good experience at Sabatini's, bad at Crown Grill. *Cabin steward (Teofilo) was excellent *Entertainment, especially, comedian AJ Jamal was great Read Less

We enjoyed the destination and staff, but there are any number of areas that need to be improved. Entertainment, food quality and the land cruise portion come to mind. However, the glaciers and landmass so spectacular its difficult not to be in awe - so definitely visit Alaska. The land portion was spectacular in terms of the natural beauty (and we hit the perfect time for fall leaf color). Unfortunately the staff were at the end of the season and it showed in terms of responsiveness and behavior (screams from the kitchen two night in a row). We understand these young adults have worked hard for the entire season, however, this was our vacation and this impacted our enjoyment. The Royal Princess cruise director was excellent and tried hard, however, the actual show content was kind of embarrassing at times. The talent tried hard but the actual productions were disjointed and do not compare to Norwegian. We also had the same comedian as the main entertainment two night - he was great - but two out of limited number of nights on board. The spa area has an area called 'the Enclave' and we were sold on the extra cost because it looked great. The problem is that it is need of a face lift and the number of passes sold is misrepresented (it varies by who you speak with!). I shared the feedback with the manager and she was engaged and grateful, however, nothing actually changed (there was still no hot water in locker room!). The dining hall service was very good, but the food was very much hit or miss. Read Less

We picked this cruise line because of what we had heard from others and that they are one of only two lines allowed into Glacier Bay which was a must see for us. The ship is beautiful, never felt crowded even with 3000 guests onboard. The staff is incredible and if you get a change to use the Spa you should splurge for it. The room was excellent and bigger than I thought it would be. The spa services are great! Great food and so many things to do you just don't have time to do them all :-( The Alaska scenery is unbelievable and the scale of everything is enormous. I would definitely do this cruise again so that I could partake in other excursions and shipboard activities that I did not have time to try. Definitely put this cruise on your bucket list. Everything was 1st class aboard ship. The only minus is the internet service. Very bad and not worth the price so don't bother buying the package. Read Less

The food was ok . The state room was outstanding but it was a upgrade suite . The ship was very big very nice very clean . Staff was very friendly and the food was average at best except in the specialty restaurants it was outstanding . The entertainment on board the ship was very good especially the comedian who we saw two times he was awesome AJ if he was ever around my area I definitely go see him again he was very funny he also did two entirely different routines . The room that does the show run was large it was very comfortable every seat was very positioned so that you could see everything and hear everything is very pleasant experience. Only problem is they didn’t have enough people in there to get you drinks there was like two people in the whole room so you waited forever to get drinks otherwise you have to go get them yourself they need many more people in there if they want to you know so drinks I had a package so it was sort of a pain because I had to go get it myself. The only thing I had a problem with was when you get on the ship they try to sell you all the spa treatments and all this crap you really don’t want in that cost way more than it’s worth in my opinion they take you on a tour which I didn’t want to take . I have been on four different ships and have cruised four different times the ship was nice people and staff were nice the food was subpar especially for the price we paid . Don’t think I take another princess cruise we had problems with our shore excursions half of them well actually three of them out of the four were canceled . You need to be extremely specific on sure excursions times dates ask as many questions as you possibly can whether it’s better to go in the morning the afternoon because we booked morning trips and they were all canceled due to the fact that they were fogged in early in the morning there was also a train that was canceled but that’s because of a rockslide . My wife and I were on the Referenced sailing from Anchorage to Vancouver. While the amenities and service were ok, the itinerary compared to the marketing materials were very deceiving. We were looking forward to our first cruise vacation but came away very disappointed. Princess hasn't had the courtesy to respond to this issue I presented to them in writing (Princess if you are out there...this is Ref File 147). Bottom line is that this ship is TOO BIG to sail this passage as shown in the itinerary. Chose another ship or better yet, another cruise line. Item 1 The Princess book '2019 Princess Cruises Alaska' map on page 18 clearly shows the route being the Inside Passage. Page 19 Southbound shows "Cruising the Inside Passage" on Day 7. If there was no intent for the Royal Princess to do that route, it should have it's own map and itinerary. I specifically chose this route because it was to sail the inside passage. Wow, what a disappointment. This was my day to sit on the balcony and see & follow the route of the inside passage on my map. Not to be on the open ocean. Item 2 We had to leave Ketchikan hours early. The Captain said they were 'notified' by Vancouver that the ship was too tall to get under the bridge at the given tide. As tightly run as the ship is, the tide tables/height of the bridge in Vancouver MUST have been known months/years in advance causing us to leave Ketchikan early. So publish this when the cruise is booked so we can chose the appropriate excursions, change ships, etc. We had zero time to see Ketchikan after the Misty Fjords tour. Disappointment #2. Item 3 We got to see Hubbard Glacier on day 2 FROM 7 MILES AWAY. It was barely visible even with binoculars. Google 'Island Princess Cruise Ship at Hubbard Glacier' (a smaller ship) to view the ship in the Ice field and awesome views that are shown. Disappointment #3. All the above is very deceptive marketing and failure to deliver. How can I ever trust another Princess publication or the Princess Company again? Look for another Cruise line. Here's the rest of the cruise information: Ship: Very elegant, but TOO BIG for this route. Dining: The food was generally good and the wait staff was very cordial. The restaurants were generally good, depending on the meal ordered. The Italian specialty restaurant was very good but the 5 course food quantities were over the top. We had favorites in the buffet. The fruit was excellent. Activities: We observed but didn't participate in activities such as dancing, gambling, art, etc. Perhaps next time. Service: All in all it was excellent. The cabin was always clean. We didn't actually interact with the cabin attendant much. Food wait staff was excellent throughout. The tip for Princess: More signs and clarity are in order for folks to know how to leave the ship at port. No one was around to help or answer questions. Entertainment: We really enjoyed the Comedian and the Magician and went to all their shows. The singers were pretty old school in their music selection. It seems something my mother would have enjoyed 40 years ago listening to Lawrence Welk vs what would be good now. Even a 70's tribute band would have been more appealing. Staff: Most everyone was fine, with the exception of the security staff and those putting on the evacuation drill talk who were very humorless. My biggest complaint on Princess staff: I HAVE DOCUMENTED THE 3 ISSUES ABOVE and Princess hasn't had the courtesy to respond to this issue I presented to them in writing (Princess if you are out there...this is Ref File 147). We saw very few children on this cruise. Outside of swimming, there wasn't much for them to do. It's unfortunate that the issues with the trip has had a significant damper on the overall experience for us. I had to rate 'Value for the money' as low because many of the reasons for picking this cruise were not fulfilled. My only recourse is to warn future travelers to not take this ship to Alaska and to carefully check all the fine print that Princess seems to use to skirt around the basic facts. Read Less

We used a Princess motor coach transfer from Anchorage to Whittier and it was very efficient. By completing the Ocean Ready process before we left home, the Embarking was super easy. The services once we boarded and before we left port were plentiful. Our cabin with balcony was plenty big for the two of us. It had a desk and small sofa with the queen size bed. Bathroom was always kept clean. We picked this cruise for the itinerary and were surprised how much we enjoyed the food and the entertainment. Customer service was always exceptional. We pre-booked all our excursions through Princess. They were expensive, but all providers were very good at their specialty. I highly recommend the Hubbard excursion to get close enough to see the immense glacier size and any calving. The cruise ship does not get very close. We did a special photography safari in Juneau and were very lucky with the whale watching. The boat driver knew how to find the whales. The tour size was limited to 14 people. In Skagway, we took the train/bus combo. Best views were from the bus and are fabulous!. The lunch stop is very touristy. The food was good and the dog sled puppies are fun. Disembarkation was super easy with self carry early departure. Read Less

We loved everything about our land and sea cruise with Princess! The ship was gorgeous. Our mini suite was spotless with a balcony large enough for two. The food on ship was excellent, especially Sabatini's - our favorite meal! Alfredo's pizza was also delicious. It's a very popular place for lunch so we didn't mind waiting 10 minutes. The wait staff was very professional at all dining venues. We especially liked the International Cafe to grab a cheese plate for happy hour on our balcony. We had coffee delivered to our room each morning and the service was prompt. We went to all 3 shows which were entertaining, especially the choreography. The comedian, AJ Jamal was hilarious! We went to both of his shows and wish he performed more. The cruise director, Matt O. was fantastic! He was very entertaining and so personable. We enjoyed chatting with him throughout our cruise. We got off the ship at all 3 ports and booked our excursions through Princess. Skagway - White Pass Scenic Railway is a must. Juneau - shuttle to Mendenhall Glacier. Rick, our bus driver, was excellent. Ketchikan - Lumberjack Show which was very entertaining. There's not enough time and space to list everything, but it was a fabulous trip. We highly recommend cruising with Princess. They are a class act. Feel free to get back to me with questions. Read Less

I took the Royal Princess Southbound on the Voyage of the Glaciers itinerary. The ship was great and the crew were very efficient and friendly. I had booked an inside cabin and it was more than adequate for the trip. I came to see Alaska, not hang out in my cabin, so I feel I that I didn't 'miss anything' by having an interior cabin. Food was good - it was all very well prepared and presented. I ate in the main dining room every night and never tried the specialty dinner restaurants. I thought that there was a nice variety of shore excursions to choose from. My favorite was a canoe to and hike on Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau. Cruise director Matt O is amazing - I will probably go out of my way to sail on a ship he is working on in the future. I will definitely sail on Princess again. Read Less

Chose a connoisseur land/cruise tour based on advice from travel agent and brochures. Amenities not as stated in the brochures. Cruise did not meet our expectations. Length 7 days. Embarkation and disembarkation ok until you get to lengthy customs. Ship entertainment very sparse at best. Not as stated online and in the brochures. Only 2 short shows the whole week. Nothing for 19-21 year olds to do. Food average in the buffet and anytime seating. Crown Grill dining the best. No whales sited. Our stateroom was on deck 16 and unfortunately there were very noisy kids on deck 17 running up and down ALL DAY & ALL NIGHT! Port stops ok. Typical tourist stuff. Skagway was fun. Museum, downtown shopping and a show representing the old "red light" district. Excursions were plentiful. We did our own and saved money. Glacier and wilderness the best. Tram (dont take if you don't like heights...1800 ft off the ground)in Ketchikan and shore plane tours ok. Read Less

We just completed a 7 day Alaskan cruise on Royal Princess ship. Princess Medallion System, in my opinion, is a breach of privacy. You wear or carry this medallion around your neck on somewhere on your body all the time. It has all your personal info on it. It is used as your cabin key, access to get on and off the ship, drink or any other purchases you make on the ship. The problem we had was another person's picture (whom we had no idea who he was, nor did Princess) appeared on the screen outside our cabin. After 2 days, Princess was finally able to correct. But, anytime you have your medallion on you, and you are near a Princess computer screen (to order drinks, purchase anything on ship, etc) anyone with their medallion on in that area, if you are purchasing or not, your picture info appears on their screen. I believe this is also why it takes bar service so long to ring up your drink - shuffling through lots of photos. Plus the medallion unlocks your cabin door long before you get to your cabin. I feel it should only unlock the cabin door after you swipe the medal on the screen outside your door. And if you are using medallion on Princess - make sure you download the app before you get on ship. It took us an entire morning to get this done. Waited in 3 long lines for staff to assist. First 2, said they didn't know what to tell us, finally the 3rd was able to help. But then you're always attached to iPhone.... and chat feature does not alert you when you have a chat. Also we had balcony cabin on 11th floor (B631). Balcony is very small compared to other cruise lines we've been on. And balcony door very hard to get opened from inside. Dining room - if you want surf/turf or steak will cost an add'l $29/person. If you need to store luggage post cruise, there is a hotel at the end of pier that will store for $10/day. Read Less

Recently cruised 7 days Anchorage to Vancouver. I could hardly believe the poor food in the buffet, often lukewarm and poor quality, mostly stews it seemed. But the worst was the lack of cleanliness. Railings were shiny on top but I usually avoid the top rail because every other person has touched it. The 2nd row was almost always a sticky mess. This is not acceptable. Buffet on sister ship the Regal was great 1 1/2 years ago and I expected the same. As mentioned previously quality of food was a big letdown. No hot eggs or meats. Desserts not very tasty. the first 2 days of the cruise there was a person by the hand washing station leaning against the far wall requesting people to wash. I figure about 90% compliance. After those 2 days here was no staff person there, about 10% of people were actually washing hands, hand sanitizer dispenser was around the corner where it could barely be seen. I find this completely unacceptable, especially as most cruisers were first time on Princess so need to learn infection control. Kid in Pyjamas in front of hot counter sneezing with no hand coverage just pushed me over the edge. It appears Princess has changed their bed linens also, no top sheet and duvet cover is about 3o" shorter than the duvet so your feet are covered by a duvet that probably was used for the last person too. I did not like this either. Read Less

The food is less than desirable. You will want to EAT at PORT as much as you can. I had Anytime dining and tried the main dining rooms and Allegro for breakfast. The food overall is bland, and I did not take more than a bite or two from anything I tried for dinner. The main dining rooms were so disappointing I figured the specialty dining rooms had to be better, so I tried Sabatini’s. While the burrata appetizer was great, the pasta was bland, and the lobster was so salty (plus the same salty lobster from the main dining rooms), that I didn’t take more than a bite at Sabatini’s’ either. I even tried the tiramisu but I’m not sure how that was tiramisu. I quickly learned that the breakfast was also poor with the pancakes being hard and anything with eggs salty. I tried the Horizon Bistro and Horizon Court for the rest of the cruise thinking I could find something edible but was wrong…there was zero nutritional value in most of the food offered and the quality was that of a grade school cafeteria at best. I waited in line for the sushi one day thinking that was safe in Alaska, but the fresh salmon and tuna had absolutely no taste. My main diet for the week consisted of the pizza (which was good) and hamburgers (which were OK) on the Lido Deck. I ate as many meals as possible while at port and off the ship. The activities schedule is disappointing. The performances and bands were all sub-par. There was one pianist that I would listen to in the Wheelhouse Bar but that was it. It was the same musicians for the entire trip that played the same songs every day. The comedian/ventriloquist was not funny at all and I lasted 5 minutes before walking out. I did attend the comedian show both evenings and I questioned how Princess allowed him to perform as he was quite offensive to many in the audience for a family show…it was not a 21+ audience only. The itinerary is 4 days stuck on this ship. There are only 3 days at port. The only days enjoyed for the entire vacation were the 3 days of excursions off the ship. All of our excursions were booked directly with the vendors. You will save quite a bit of money so I do not recommend booking any excursions with Princess unless you want to pay more for the exact same trips. Overall, Princess is sub-par and needs to do some bench marking against their competitors. My impression is Princess is a low cost, low quality cruise line for passengers that have never been on a cruise, have low expectations and don’t have any comparisons. Princess marketing itself as being a premiere cruise line is inaccurate. Read Less

Princess always has been and is still the best cruise line for Alaskan cruises. The itinerary is the best. The cabin was a balcony, the only way to go in Alaska. The cabin steward was extremely efficient and was always on top of keeping the room serviced. The buffet and international cafe are fantastic. Excellent selections, hot food. The International buffet is second to none on alternative to buffet for eating. It also offers the option of entertainment in the Plaza deck. Sabitinis was fantastic. Well worth the money. The crew on the ship was outstanding and very friendly. The always had a smile on their face and truly looked as if they enjoy their job. On several occasions they went above and beyond when dealing with your requests. The Dining room is definitely a place you should avoid unless you simply wish to waste 2 hours to eat your dinner. The quality was clearly sub par to the buffet. The entertainment was 50/50. The Comedian was exceptional. The magician was bad. The performances of the production shows was at best average. Have cruised 12 times previous princess. This was by far the worst selection of entertainment. The best experience eating was the English Pub Lunch at the Wheelhouse/Crown. The fish and chips was outstanding. Of the three bars the Plaza Bar was by far the best. The service and staff were beyond expectations. The Wheelhouse and Crooners was sub par. Poor service and no drink ever came back the same. They always acted confused. Although not part of the cruise, I should mention the land part of the package. Mt McKinley Lodge was outstanding as was the train ride. Denali Lodge was very disappointing. The lodge should be noted to "NOT BE KID FRIENDLY". Even the pizza restaurant was only for over 21. Travel agent recommended it for our Alaskan cruise. Embankment was the worst. Had to arrange own way to Whittier to board ship when many were shuttled from Airport. We were not on their list of eligible travelers. They could not tell us why. The dock was a mad house with people pushing and shoving to get their luggage to the Shore-man. It was raining. The climb to the boat was steep and the transition down from the walkway to the boat had a small ramp that was wet with not rails to assist seniors who could fall due to wetness and steepness, the crew stood and watched many people struggle to go down the ramp without offering to assist. An accident looking for a place to happen. For the most part the food was not acceptable, nothing like the other cruises. They had a Pizza place that had good food but the other restaurants were not good except for the ones that were additional charge. We ate at one of the steak houses on a special occasion that was good but expensive. All the Excursions was not worth the money. The whale watching one, there were too many people on board and when a whale was spotted, everyone ran over to that side of the boat and if you are not fast all you could see was the back of someones head. Took an ATV ride up a mountain to watch wild life and of course nothing was seen. After arriving back home we did our evaluation for the cruise line and gave them a poor rating. They left a message on our voicemail and said that someone from their customer relations department would call us. They never called. They did call our Travel agent and had him call us and tell us that they would not give us any refund. Funny thing, I did not ask for one. They did offer through him a free bottle of wine if we travel again on Princess Cruise lines. I told him to tell them that that will never happen. Read Less
