picked this cruise because of start and finish in Vancouver rather than flying one way. 99% of passengers were retired, staff were very attentive, dining menus were varied. went to Rudy's Sel De Mer one evening , the meal was excellent as was the waitress, only fault was that we felt rushed when the entree came minutes after the appitisers. After asking the waitress to slow down dessert came when we wanted it. cabin 6085 was a signature suite with tub and shower stall, the hot water control and the shower diverter in the tub was not working when we boarded but was fixed shortly after telling stateroom attendant. embarking and disembarking was a breeze. Our luggage was at our cabin within an hour of boarding. overall the cruise was great, weather to and from Hawaii was not good. i would recommend Holland America. in fact we are doing a transpacific cruise on the Noordam. I chose this cruise because we live in Vancouver and it would be a no hassle (airports) way to enjoy a leisurely much needed holiday. The first day should have been the omen that would tell us how the rest of the trip would work out. We took 3 hours to check in.. everyone had been instructed to leave because they had to sanitize due to abnormal amount of Nor walk virus.. Many many people got sick... The entertainment was one step above a school production, social staff clearly did not enjoy their jobs. The library was moved to the top level of the ship where they had exciting activities such as "Napkin Folding". Really? Food was mediocre ..Do not book a set table.. the dining room was very sparsely attended .. we had a table for 8 and NO ONE showed up most nights ... the staff offered no other options in terms of moving us to another table even after we asked. The sea was rough 10 meter waves etc. Not really the fault of the cruise line but some effort could have been made to reroute into calmer waters ( we sailed the Atlantic and the cruise company we sailed with avoided a huge storm by sailing out of it's path) The stabilizers even malfunctioned coming into Victoria. Bar and Wait Staff seemed harassed and worked very hard but didn't put any extra effort in ..an example of this was ..I ordered a drink and they had run out of the mix they needed but were to busy apparently to send someone to another bar for what was needed .. I honestly do not know how this cruise company functions... We will NEVER cruise with Holland America again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we live in Vancouver and didn't have to fly anywhere, we also love the 5 sea days each way. Embarkation took a very long time - our luggage got to our room before we did. Disembaraktion was very easy. I found the ship poorly laid out. It is a bunch of small, chopped up rooms with pillars every time you turn around. There are so many pillars in the Vista Lounge, that is makes about 25% of the seats unuseable. Our cabin - 1090 - was very noisy - clanking and clanging of, what we were told - were the pipes. The Paino Bar is such a small chopped up room, with lots of pillars, that extra chairs needed to be brought in almost every night. We did the anytime dining and getting a table was usually no problem. However, the menu selection was awful, vegetables were in short supply and meals took a REALLY long time - over 2 hours. The Pinnacle Grill was good, however, it would be nice if they would change up their dessert selections. Service was good at the front desk and picked up on the Lido Deck after complaints about dirty dishes being left on the tables for a long time. We have done this cruise previously and had a longer time (even overnight) in Honolulu - which is very nice. They could also cut out Victoria all together and change Hilo to a visit to Kona. I was not impressed with the entertainment - pretty ho hum. We did not travel with children - we didn't see many on the cruise - maybe 20. We would definitely take this cruise again because it is very easy for us, but I would be more selective about the ship - would not go on the Westerdam again. Read Less
