"No lines were set up for tickets, and it was like a free-for-all as people rushed up to the table to get tender tickets, causing guests to get angry due to being skipped, and no information was provided on the time it would take to tender.Inform passengers before the cruise that their passports will be taken by the crew upon boarding the ship ·       Friendly passengers from all different nationalities and diverse backgrounds who were interested in the culture of the ports...."Read More

A return to cruising after 10 years for me and a first for my partner

Review for a Asia Cruise on Westerdam

To be fair the choice of this cruise was mine, to celebrate a significant birthday and then explore a part of the world I have always wanted to see. The itinerary was very attractive, as was the price when we booked. I was also drawn to the size of Westerdam, being a small ship. First things first, the lead up to the cruise was a daily argument with Holland America over needing visa's for some of ...

This cruise was chosen based on the itinerary and not the ship. If you are looking at this ship for entertainment purposes, there are other ships to consider, this one only provides a few entertainment opportunities.   If you are going for the destinations rather than the ship, then this ship will serve your purpose if you go in with the mindset that this is an older ship and the ports are the ...

Lots of good things but some improvements needed

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Westerdam

We did a cruise with two other couples on the Westerdam round trip out of Seattle to Alaska. Some of the pluses: The ship was in very good shape for its age and didn't generally feel overcrowded. The indoor pool and hot tubs were nice since the weather outside usually wasn't nice. The promenade deck went all the way around the outside of the ship which was great for exercising with ...

Met our expectations

All good all round. The food was a bit bland - we think because of the older demographics of the other passengers. But overall we enjoyed it. Bar staff were great and funny. Mask policy was controversial and some guests were a bit angry. Took a day trip tour with City Unscripted - our guide was called Gabriel (Jewel) I think...he was excellent. The burgers were good and we were glad we went ...

Testing the waters after covid

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Westerdam

We took this Southern Australia cruise to test how cruising had changed since covid. Being for us a local cruise it visited the cities we wanted to visit with mostly overnight stays. This was our second cruise on the Westerdam and our 9th with HAL. Overall the cruise was fine given the limitations imposed by covid requirements. All ports were met the crew friendly and efficient as ...

First cruise into the South Pacific was a bumpy one, but still fun

We choose this cruise for a few reasons. 1) we had always wanted to go to this area of the world 2) we love the "at sea" days as much as port days and 3) there were at sea days between every country visited, so on the off chance that someone would have gotten Covid, we would only have missed at most 1 country. As it was, we traveled with another couple,1 person got Covid, and missed 1 country. ...

Loved the Neptune cabin and perks.

Review for a Asia Cruise on Westerdam

This was our first time in a Neptune Suite. We loved the convenience of the concierge just down the hall, the priority dining seating, and breakfast in the Pinnacle Restaurant. We originally signed up for a Signature Suite, but were offered an upgrade to a Neptune for just $250 each on a 15 day cruise. It was well worth it. It will be hard to cruise in anything less next time. My wife ...

Great people but lacking educational component

Review for a Asia Cruise on Westerdam

This was my second HAL cruise, and I have to say from the top my biggest disappointment was that there were no Educational lectures like I had my first cruise. If this is not a regular HAL experience, I apologize, but my first cruise had college professors in Geology and History that packed the theater with their amazing quality. We also had short language classes before ports to practice how to ...

Spacious ship

Booked this cruise for its itinerary to asia. Rooms are bigger than usual but Westerdam is smaller than other ships we have sailed with so we felt more rocking at sea. Service was excellent, our safe stopped working and they sent someone to fix it within 5 minutes. Food in the dining room was very good and much better than the Lido buffet. Pizza was good but pasta and lasagna were terrible in the ...
