We have been on several MSC cruises in the past and have enjoyed them very much. But our recent Baltic cruise on the Poesia was disappointing. The food in the Lido was poorly prepared---too salty or dried out in particular--and heavy in refined carbohydrates; the main dining room was extremely noisy and cramped, so much so that we simply avoided it most nights; and the entertainment was very amateurish. Another annoyance was having to pay for water (bottled only) in the dining room as well as a cup of coffee! On the positive side, the ship was very clean and the room steward was excellent. As well, the ports of call were excellent, although we typically had only 6 hours at each stop, probably to minimize port charges. This made our visits to most of the stops rather superficial and rushed when they didn't need to be, given the proximity of each port of call..And because the Poesia docked at some distance from the center of almost every city or town, we had to pay for an expensive shuttle bus service most days. Although we enjoyed the Poesia's itinerary very much, we will not take another MSC cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a first time visit to the British Isles. We have sailed with Princess in the past and have not be disappointed. This sailing was a sold out ship so it was very crowded onboard but Princess handled everything very well. Our only disappointment was boarding the ship in London/Southampton. Very disorganized from arriving at the airport to boarding the ship. After we boarded the ship everything else went smoothly. I think there should have been more enrichment activities offered. Some of out shore excursion were too rushed and the tour guides could have been a little more knowledgeable, but over all we were not disappointed. Entertainment was great as usual. Food was very good. Our cabin was roomy and well appointed. Disembarking the ship went smoothly and our extra days in London in one of their recommended hotels after the cruise was very nice. Great first time visit to Britain. We did not have any children in our group but we saw many families with children traveling together. Definitely will cruise with Princess again. We have 2 more cruised booked with them! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was going to the British Isles. No problem embarking since we boarded in FR, Le Havre, but apparently there were problems embarking the next day in Southampton.. Our room was quite small which was a disappointment, although it had a balcony. Really could care less about balcony since it was a bit too cool to use it, and made room smaller. Hard to relax in cabin if people next to you or above were on their balcony, not quiet. I will never have a balcony again. Our room was across from a work area so it was very, very noisy the day and night guests embarked from Southampton and the day and night before we disembarked in Le Havre. The door to this area should have been closed but wasn't. This is where luggage came in and went out. Very, very noisy. You could hear the luggage being thrown around and loud yelling between crew. We were on baja deck around cabin 625 - to 701 or so. The day passengers embarked on the ship in Southampton some genius decided that music needed to be played all over the ship including the cabin hallways. I could hear the unwanted so called "music" in my cabin. It was annoying, and obviously too loud and totally unnecessary. I thought a cruise was supposed to be relaxing and peaceful, it really wasn't on this ship. The ship is noisy. The bars played music WAY too loud, you couldn't have a conversation. I heard Carnival took over Princess so maybe that's why. There was virtually no quiet area to go to without the horrible canned music played throughout the ship. The library was teeny tiny, so you couldn't go there for peace and quiet. The lovely dining room instead of pleasant, quiet, background music, it was country western one night. Luckily when the dining room filled up you couldn't hear it. I'm sorry but Country Western, or Rock garbage does not go with a lovely dining room, it belongs in bars and nightclubs. There is no promenade deck on this ship so you cannot walk around the entire ship. That's really a loss. There were a couple of days that would have been nice to sit out on a promenade deck and read a book or walk for fresh air. Not on this ship. The ship had a beautiful Atrium, but at times if an event was going on in there it could get ridiculously LOUD. The ship has a great sports club, but again the crap music playing made you want to hurry up and get out of there. The Sanctuary is lovely but extremely costly plus the loud music and base coming from the outdoor screen could be heard in the Sanctuary, so it really isn'tt very relaxing. I love music when I want to listen to it, not shoved down my throat by some twenty something. Princess needs to appeal to all ages not just 30 year olds. Big Mistake. We weren't the only ones who were annoyed with the noise on this ship. Dining was good, but very confusing and crazy at Horizon court and Bistro - Lido deck. Service and staff great. Entertainment OK, but nothing too interesting to do on days at sea. Ports were good but they could forget about Guernsey. It was a nightmare the day we were there because there weren't enough tenders running back and forth. Shore excursions were good although at Lock Ness we thought we'd see the castle but were told not to get off the boat. We were supposed to have time shopping but have about 20 min, plus the bus for Lock Ness couldn't leave on time due to the battery needing a jump. Edinburgh was good but again no time for shopping. Very annoying, same thing in Glasgow. The Royal Princess is a bit difficult to get around since you can't go direct from an upper deck to deck 5 without figuring out where the elevators needed to go there are, or stairs for that matter. I think this is because of the atrium. I rated publi rooms as poor since there was basically no where quiet on the ship. Read Less

Reasonable amount of room space, decent size balcony for two people. Very comfortable bed. Couldn’t have had a better room steward (Nazy) who was quick & efficient every day. The buffet food left a bit to be desired (very Asian focused and wish there had been other good, daily options). The two onboard restaurants were excellent with Crown Grille being the best of two. Good wine list at both as well as in the main dining rooms. Onshore excursions lived up to the pre-purchase description although the St. Petersburg “tour” felt a bit like a cattle call - we were herded to all the major photo points with limited time in between. The best excursion was certainly the rib boat tour in Stockholm - absolutely amazing very small group tour of the archipelago! Pricey but worth it. The WiFi which we paid $29 for PER DAY was not good. At times it was quick but the majority of the cruise it was slow or non-existent. The upside is that we were forced to disconnect and had a great vacation. Overall, staff service was efficient, accommodating and well done without being overbearing. Read Less

We chose this cruise to see the Baltic. We added a few days in Germany after the cruise to pursue seeing my Husband's Grandfather's homeland of Germany. We highly recommend this tour and cruise line. It was great getting on in Germany versus Copenhagen. I think the check in was easier, and we had a day to relax while other's were touring. One down size was the excursions. There was too little time for bathroom and shopping breaks. Russia's 2 day excursion about killed us in it's pace. I think maybe next time I would do the on-off bus excursions. We did this in Berlin. It allows more personal time, and the audio purchased at the palace was great explaining everything. In defense of the excursions; they are safer than going on your own, and the limited time in port does sometimes warrant a full schedule. All of our guides were great. All accommodations, entertainment, and staff on the ship were great. Time spent in the spa was heavenly. Meals in the general areas were delicious. We went to three specialty restaurants: Cagney's Steak House; Le Bistro's French Restaurant; and La Cochina's Italian Restaurant were superb. Everyone be prepared to spend two hours for dinner in any of these restaurants. I highly recommend 5:30 pm reservations, so as to walk some of the food off and to avoid missing any 7:30 entertainment. I noticed most of the fellow cruisers booked these later in the evening, though. On a night we decided to miss the 7:30 entertainment we did book a later time, which did work out (this dinner was no later than 7 pm). The Breakfast Buffet on deck 15 is great prior to your shore excursions. It is quick, while providing excellent food and service. An inside cabin worked wonderful for us. We had comfort, and our cabin was in the most convenient part of the ship (Port Side Mid-Ship) room 5161. We can't wait to book another cruise. We had a great time. We loved our ship and the places we visited. Kudo's to everyone on staff on the Getaway! Read Less

My husband and I have cruised with NCL 7 times now, but the Getaway is our least favorite ship. The ship was too crowded and had too many kids running around especially by the pool and buffet dinning room. 2 major disappointments were 1) - The atrium is absolutely NOT the place to hold Games and Trivia activities. There is already traffic from people walking by, its where the customer service and Internet desk is located. People walking by would stop and crowd the area. It was impossible to get a seat and I found it odd that parents allowed their children to watch the adult game shows. This is why on other ships these activities are held in a lounge. 2) - This was the first time we witnessed passengers who were not booked on NCL excursions being treated as 2nd class citizens. The morning we arrived in St Petersburg, they announced on the loud speakers that the boat hadn’t been cleared, so they advised people to wait in the common areas or in their cabins for an announcement to disembark. My husband and I ignored the announcement and waited by the Theater with other NCL excursion passengers even though our tour was with Alla, an independent tour company. We observed NCL crew letting the NCL Excursion passengers walk out the ship, so my husband and I joined the crowd. The following day we heard a couple had missed a portion of their independent tour because NCL did not give the announcement to disembark until all their Excursion passengers had gone through security at around 8.30am. 3) - My advise to all passengers booked with independent tours – don’t wait in the common areas or cabin for an announcement, find out where the NCL excursion passengers are meeting and wait there. Also don't believe it when they announce the ship hasn't been cleared. 4) - Positives are food was great, Ocean view cabin was a good size with plenty of storage, staff was friendly and helpful. We chose this cruise because of its perfect itinerary and our fantastic experiences with MSC. Starting conveniently in Warnemunde, Germany (we're German) we cruised the baltic sea and had stopps in Poland, Latvia, Ltiuania, Estland, Poland, Finland, Sweden and Denmark plus one sea day. Honestly, we were a bit concerned because of MSC Magnifica's bad ratings for but gladly non of them turned out as true. We had an awesome cabin (balcony fantastica, 12007 thanks to an upgrade) with a super comfy bed. The food in the main dining room was delicious and if portions seem too small (not in my opinion), there was always the possibility to order more than one starter or main course. Food in buffet was not as good as in the MDR though. We also went to the Oriental Plaza, which turned out as a good choice (it is very dark and not very homely there though...). Staff was more than friendly and the ship was always clean. The ship was completely booked, but there was always a quiet space and deck chair available. Gym and Spa was not crowded as well, which we really liked. We booked shore excursions in St. Petersburg (Spilled blood cathedral) and Gdansk (City walk) and they were perfect. We had to tender in Stockholm because there were too many ships in town. It turned out, that we were shipped directly to Gamla Stan (Stockholms old town) though, which was, again, perfect for us. Conclusion: perfect ship when it comes to size, entertainment, food and staff and a destination we would suggest to every cruise lover Read Less
