1-10 of 27 Holland America Line Volendam Suite Cabin Cruise Reviews
One of the things I love about HAL, is the Neptune lounge, so I usually opt for the suite.. It's expensive-- about a thousand Cnd a day-- but worth it..
So this cruise, you couldn't have asked for nicer weather, and smooth seas.. It has been 9 years since I took my last cruise (a 7 day HAL Mexican on the Veendam), and I've noticed a few changes.. The boarding and departing has improved-- ...
We do an annual late winter cruise every year. We've traveled mainly on HAL, and have been pleased with the smaller ships and good service. This year we did the full transit of the Panama Canal, leaving from San Diego.
We splurged this year on a Neptune suite. We have had one in the past, and really enjoy the bigger room, but especially the larger balcony. They are twice the size of the ...
We had a great cruise on the Volendam.
So first things first, the Alaskan destination was great, This is clearly why we were on the cruise - to see Alaska. What a fantastic place it was. It was one majestic vista after another.
Juneau and Skagway had very little to offer in themselves but the excursions from there were great. We booked a Harv and Marv whale watching tour in Juneau ...
Holland America is our 1st choice for cruising but the Volendam didn't meet expectations. As usual the service employees were attentive and friendly. The itinerary and the excursions were also excellent. The problems on this cruise were all ship related. The ship had been in dry dock supposedly being refurbished. They didn't stay in dry dock long enough as there were numerous problems. Numerous ...
Choose this cruise because it was highly discounted due to my wife's play in the casino. We were looking for sometihng special as my 70th birthday and our 50th wedding anniversary occured during the time we were on this vacation. We have sailed twice before on Holland America and found them to be not to our liking due to fair food quality and boring activities while onboard. We really wanted to ...
This was our first cruise on Holland America after 15 cruises on Celebrity, Disney, RCCL, NCL, Carnival, Windstar, and SilverSea.
We picked the cruise probably for all the wrong reasons: we had a specific 7 day window that we could cruise on and the only itinerary available was HAL's Volendam to Alaska.
The Ship
The Volendam is almost 20 years old now but is extremely well maintained. ...
I like the smaller size ship Volendam and I found it to be spacious and never felt crowded, although it's an older ship, and it does show some wear and tear.
The Inside Passage to Alaska was very scenic and we were able to enjoy the view from our balcony for most of the voyage, due to the unusually warm weather.
The ports were easily accessible by walking except for Juneau, which was a ...
We have no complaints about this cruise. We stayed in a Neptune suite and maybe you get what you pay for in accommodations. No one can predict the natural occurrences but we sure lucked out with glacier calving, orca and humpback whales, herds of porpoise, and rainbows galore. Food was very good at all dining options. Activities were fine for us too.
I probably would not get off the boat if ...
This smaller ship had the qualities of great food with a good variety of choices. The service was also very good. We had a suite and the amenities were great. The free pressing service and laundry was very handy and become a spoiled necessity. The lido food bar for was not opened 24 hours, but there was a 24 hour room service if you needed to help keep your weight up.
The entertainment was good ...
I've just finished reading some of the recent Volendam reviews and think I must have been on a different ship. Our experience, overall, was stellar. The ship had just completed a major drydock in December, and it seemed to us the things had been spruced up quite a bit, and the public areas were in very nice condition. We picked this cruise for the itinerary, most of which was new to us. By way ...
