This cruise was so so fabulous in every way. The itenerary was the most wonderful cities and the accommodations were 100% first rate. The cruise staff on the Villi are excellent, From the cruise director Gary to Martin to Marta , they were so friendly and treated us like guest and even family at times. The food and excursions were the very best. We are preserved on another Viking cruise next year- France’s Finest and we can’t wait! The towns of Smsterdam, Vienna, Budapest and Prague are all favorites. We did both pre and post cruise excursions and the accommodations and special treatment from Viking staff made this soo so special. The ship was amazing. We had a comfortable French Balcony stateroom and enjoyed all of the common areas of the ship. We met great people and will cherish the experience for a lifetime. It is easy to see how Viking is rated number one in River Cruising- excellent! Read Less

This was an absolutely excellent river cruise. Embarkation was excellent since we were met at the airport and driven to the hotel. The hotel stay was also excellent in a four star establishment. The ship, dining hall, lounge, hallways, and cabins were always very clean. Everything in the cabins was well supplied. The staff were always friendly and very helpful. The food was excellently prepared and the staff were excellent in taking the menu requests and delivering the menu items requested. They were constantly waiting on us in refilling wine, water, tea, and other beverages. The program director and other chief staff were very knowledgeable and all daily activities were well planned. Day tours of the cities were well planned and the tour guides were very knowledgeable and very accommodating. While the ship cruised at night to the next destination, the travel was so smooth it was sometimes difficult to know we were actually moving. This river cruise was very enjoyable, the scenery was breathtaking, and the knowledge gained of the country sides traveled was inspiring. Disembarkation was also excellent since we were driven from the ship to the airport. We would recommend this cruise to anyone wanting to know more about life in the countries along the Rhine and Danube. Read Less

Would not change any of the stops, tours, or length of time on the cruise! Ship & crew were great, as well as the Program Director! Changing ships at mid-cruise due to low water was even handled well! Our only two suggestions are to have Name Tags for everyone ( with large print first names ) and to have enough seats in the lounge for the Program Director's Briefing for the next day. ( we always seemed to be 8-10 short! ). Great time and would sure do another tour again! We have recommended it to everyone! Read Less

Lets start by saying that Viking River Cruises are not cheap. The 14 day Rhine and Danube cruise rounds out at about $1000/day per couple. For that price, you get a well organized cruise. Small but efficient accomodation. Limited space on the ship and bridge inaccessible for aboit half the cruise. Shore excursions involve a lot of walking. The Danube is low on water, so you have to change ship at the middle of the trip. Main complaint is the food. Breakfast and lunch are OK but dinner is not up to par, at least not for the price. If you are not into food, then you are OK, but if you are a gourmet, forget this cruise line. Wine and beer are abundant, but run of the mill stuff. Ordinary table wine. Again, NOT WORTH THE PRICE! Arrival day in Amsterdam included a walking tour and much rain, but great taste of the city. The ship was beautiful and well appointed. The crew were always friendly and accommodating. Room was very small, but quite adequate with a wonderful "patio like" window that opened and allowed for enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells along the way. More food than one could possibly eat. Having local guides at all shore excursions was great and allowed for interesting conversations. Due to low water conditions, we had to "trade" ships half way, but other than having to pack our bags, the trade was almost seamless. Viking representatives were at the airport when we arrived, at the hotel during our 2-day extension in Budapest, and at the airport when we left. Our program director, Lubo, was fantastic! Viking took great care of everything! The hotel in Budapest was well located and very comfortable. It was a wonderful trip, especially for a first time to Europe. It would have been nice to have had more "free" time in some of the cities, but I understand the time constraints with such an itinerary. I would say that perhaps this isn't a trip for younger people as, at least on my trip, the clientele's average age appeared to be around 70, and a bit more sedentary than I had anticipated. Entertainment on the ship seemed to be geared towards an older audience as well. Still, a wonderful opportunity to see and visit many cities of Europe. Read Less
