Good and not so good

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Tor

We chose Viking as it had good itineraries, and was supposedly to be the top of the class in river cruising, , and although we have done many ocean cruises, this was our first river cruise. The good points - - the itinerary we chose was a 7 night cruise departing Regensburg in Germany to Budapest in Hungary, including Passau, Krems, and Vienna, along the River Danube, the destinations were ...

We heard great things about Viking and were excited to take the 7 Night Romantic Danube cruise. The cruise and excursions were great until the day before we were to disembark and our last night on the river boat. The boat was unable to dock in Regensburg due to high waters. On our last day of excursions, we were bused into Regensburg for the walking tour and the Weltenburg Abbey & the Danube ...

It seems company care to get you on the boat but doesn’t care when you have trouble to land to the home.

Customer services are excellent, food is ok, free tours are cheep, you really have to pay option tour to get a good trip. No much entertainment. We were glad the Capability was just about the half. Can’t imagine how crowded the ship will be when it is in full capacity. we had trouble to catch last return home flight because the time between the scheduled international flight and domestic ...

Never having been to Europe before nor done a river cruise decided on the Romantic Danube cruise at end of December. We have done a number of ocean cruises but this was our first river cruise. Having heard so many positive things about Viking we had high expectations. The first part of our trip the 3 day Prague extension was wonderful - viking host and guides along with nice hotel made for a ...

It has been a month since we returned from our November 2018 visit to Prague and Danube River Cruise. We experienced the same low water levels that so many have commented on, this was out of Vikings control and we can hardly blame them for it. During our week on the cruise we transferred to three different ships, spend a lot of hours on buses and got to see some interesting truck stops on the ...

I give this a 3 for neutral... This was a bucket list trip for us. We chose this trip so that we could get a taste of the cities that are advertised on this journey. There were many wonderful things we saw but most of all made great friends along the way... Before embarkation, we chose the Viking Prague extension on the front end of the trip. We flew business class so upon arriving in ...

Third and last Viking cruise. Scheduled for the Var, boarded the Kara instead and then after a couple days packed and boarded the Tor. High water was again the reason given although the competitor Thomas Hardy made it just fine. Viking must be cutting back as staff on both vessels seemed tired, overworked and not chipper. Christmas markets seemed redundant and that is why Viking is no longer ...

We'd been wanting to try river cruising and this was our first. We took a Viking ocean cruise to the Baltic last year and absolutely loved it. As expected, the service was above average, but the food was not as good as we thought it should be. We had a veranda cabin, which we were unfortunately unable to enjoy because of the cold weather. The cabin was smaller than on an ocean vessel, ...

We have sailed on seven ocean cruises over the last 16 years and had always liked the idea of a river cruise, but as these are not generally open to children, we have waited until our son could be left home alone. We chose the Romantic Danube cruise as it suited our dates and started in Budapest where we wanted to extend our visit. We spent two days there before starting the cruise. We used a ...

We were able to fly ahead to Munich before transferring to Frankfurt to meet the ship. That was a nice side trip. When we were met at the airport, the airport was under construction. The staff that met us could have grabbed a cart to assist with the luggage as we had to walk quite a distance to the bus. It was quite a walk with all your luggage and we had older folks with us. We were ...
