We chose this itinerary on Viking because we wanted to see Key West and spend a few days with warm sunny weather. We had previously taken a Viking River Cruise and enjoyed the smaller ship aspect of the Sun. From embarkation to disembarkation, we were treated like valued guests. Our room (DV6) on Deck 3 was spacious, well organized and with sufficient storage in closet, drawers and bathroom. We loved having the balcony and the room to enjoy coffee at sunrise and a wine at sunset. The coffee pot was a particular treat as we aren’t human until coffee is consumed. Instruction for pot were fairly clear and produced strong coffee...just right! All meals were tasty, varied and served with a smile and wine. We ate at Manfedi’s one evening and Chef’s Table another...both we’re outstanding. The entertainment was well planned and timed which suited those of us who are ready to retire before midnight. There were lots of public spaces to give the impression of a much larger ship....would highly recommend for a relaxing winter break...or any adult get away. Read Less

We chose this as we wanted to try Viking Ocean and like the shorter length from Lisbon. We also never had done a holiday cruise and Viking did it right. The food, entertainment, bars and lectures were top notch. We have been on many cruises and this was probably the most well designed cruise-ship we have been on to date. We booked again for a colder weather cruise in New England in 2020 and are thinking of the winter Norway cruise in 2022. The food was excellent and the specialty venues were also great. We had the SS package and are wine lovers and had a wide choice of wines by the glass to order. We also got a discount on bottle purchases and enjoyed our French Champagne by the Bottle. If you are interested in cooking classes, sign up right away when you get on board as they do not advertise them in advance. Read Less

Future booking are inevitable. We want to sail the world with Viking!!! All of the excursions were so informative and thought/organized so well. On board entertainment nightly and the bar service was grand. All on board service was from breakfast/lunch/dinner was outstanding. I just can't say enough of the service, meals, onboard ship persons and utmost service from all. Spa, pools and on board amenities are a huge factor on why we booked along with only 940 guests on the ship. Food and dining was so fabulous with lobster, Peking duck, shrimp, steaks/filets, fresh vegetables and amazing deserts....so much variety that you can choose from. You will never be disappointed with a Viking Ocean Cruise. Book today....enjoy what life has to offer! You will love it!!! Read Less

My wife and I chose this cruise because it includes a tremendous opportunity to see a lot of Art Galleries and Museums as well as locations that are historically and socially significant. As has been our experience with all of our other Viking cruises, all facets of travel - from arrival to departure and everything in between - were handled beautifully by the Viking organization. The setting was elegant, and the people were incredible! Our cabin was roomy and well kept. The food was delicious and plentiful. Vikings chefs really know how to cook a variety of food styles and can please the most picky eaters. The specialty restaurants offer an elegant setting to try new dishes, and the staff in them are friendly and personable. The entertainment was fun - really enjoyed the classical music in the Living Room in the afternoons and evenings as well as in Wintergarden during tea time. We found the service to be second to none. The included excursions were fun and informative, and the optional excursions offered a wide variety of experiences you don't find on other lines. All things considered, we can't wait for our next trip on Viking! Read Less

Small ship experience very good however staff attentiveness is much less than on Viking River Cruises. Dinning options were very good. However, trying to get a coffee refill at breakfast was nearly impossible. Shore excursions were again not as good as the river cruise excursions - ship staff were not on top of local tour guides. Quality of shore guides was very inconsistent. Often excursions were delayed starting because local guides were not all there. Ship staff seemed unconcerned about this. Cabins were very comfortable and amenities good. Cabin staff excellent and responsive Public spaces beautifully designed and comfortable. Onboard shops were interesting and had unique items. The most attentive staff was in the perfume shop; she was friendly and engaging. The steam room and snow cave were very relaxing and a unique experience. Viking needs to focus on staff training to make sure that each staff member treats each guest as a valued person - start with a smile and a pleasant hello. Read Less

Our first opportunity to cruise with Viking. Loved it. Will be looking to cruise Viking again. This cruise had 2 days in our departure port of Venice, Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor, Corfu, port for Olympia and disembark in Athens. Really enjoyed the stops at Split, Dubrovnik, Kotor and Corfu. This cruise fit perfectly with a marathon tour group that my wife and I continued on with after our arrival in Athens. We stayed another beautiful 8 days in Greece, as my wife and I ran the Athens marathon and 5K races. The Viking Sun is a beautiful ship. All six of Viking's ships are virtually the same; 975 passengers, Great food, Excellent dinning room and two Specialty dinning rooms. Every cabin is spacious and has a balcony. Wine and beer with your meals are included. Each deck has a very nice laundry room, which is free. Excellent spa, fitness center, sauna and even a snow room. There are places to sit and relax everywhere on this ship - never crowded. Superb service. Best of all, Viking offers a free excursion at every port. We had several very knowledgeable guides.. We booked two back-to-back cruises on the Viking Sun to celebrate our wedding anniversary: the first around the British Isles and a second around the Baltic Sea. This was to be the first time we would cruise extensively in northern Europe and, after having taken five Viking river cruises in central Europe, this was the first time we booked cruises on a small Viking ocean ship. We were excited to travel and to see and learn as much as we could in new parts of the world. Boy were we were surprised! This pair of cruises actually exceeded our expectations! Life on the same cruise ship for 28 days -- the longest voyage we've ever taken -- was a truly grand experience! Not only did we thoroughly enjoy daily excursions at every port of call, but we also enjoyed dining, entertainment, and timely lectures aboard the ship. After sailing for only a week, we became so comfortable on board, getting to know many of the ship's crew by name with many of them greeting us by name. We even had an intimate dinner with the ship's captain and the business manager. It was like being part of one big happy family! Service aboard the ship was excellent. All of the food was delicious, the cabins were clean, spacious, and well-designed, the crew were courteous and professional, and the ship seemed to sail well with only a little rolling when the sea was rough. However, even that just comfortably rocked us to sleep after a long day. Would we book an ocean cruise with Viking again? Absolutely. In fact, we have already booked two back-to-back cruises in the Mediterranean Sea from Barcelona to Athens in 2021 and we look forward to a repeat of our grand experience! Read Less

Unpacking once and being able to experience multiple ports of calls by simply stepping off the ship was wonderful. The food overall was delicious and we had many choices of cuisine and restaurants. . It was fun to taste the local cuisine at lunch and dinner in each port of call. The guides were so knowledgeable and having the Port talks and Q&As helped tremendously. It enabled the experience of the historical sites to be all we hoped they would be. The Cruise Director gave us little tops for each stop. My favorite spot Eidfjord,Norway, was beyond spectacular as we viewed it from our balcony at sunrise. It had been a life long dream to see the Fjords and it surpassed all of my expectations. The most wonderful part overall was the total relaxation on this beautiful luxurious ship. There was nothing you could want for, from the throw blankets everywhere to the popcorn and movies at night to be taken care of at every moment by a very efficient, friendly crew. Read Less

After a disappointing cruise with Celebrity in 2014, we vowed we wouldn’t cruise again in a hurry. Our faith in cruising has now been restored again thanks to Viking Sun! We embarked on the Viking Homelands cruise with friends in Stockholm for 14 nights. The embarkation process was a breeze & the staff very welcoming & friendly. Viking Sun is a very stylish ship. The Scandi styling throughout is very timeless, elegant & appointed with beautiful artworks. Our penthouse veranda room was very comfortable indeed & we enjoyed a fully stocked bar fridge which was topped up daily. We also enjoyed having access to laundry facilities on each deck with detergent included. The entertainment was fantastic...an energetic young & talented group who performed in the main theatre & a trio of musicians who performed throughout the ship on a daily basis. The cruise director Bevan was also a very talented performer & was very high profile in all facets of his role which was great. We enjoyed dining in all the restaurants. We particularly enjoyed The Restaurant, Manfredis & the Chefs Table. All of the food & beverages were of a very high quality & the staff were fantastic with impeccable service. There are some beautiful public areas on this ship, namely the Wintergarten, The Explorers Lounge, the Spa & around the main pool. I particularly enjoyed a Nordic Spa Experience one evening in which a group was shown the correct way to use the sauna & snow grotto onboard ...it was so envigorating! We did the included Viking shore excursions at most ports which we found to be a great introduction to each port destination. We did two paid excursions...the 2 day Ultimate St Petersburg & Lübeck & Wismar. These were fantastic excursions with amazing meals & guides, we were very well looked after. On previous cruises we have tired of continually being touted to spend more money in specialty restaurants & beverage packages etc. Cruising with Viking is a truly relaxing experience & it’s great that all is prepaid beforehand. There are no gimmicks on board, namely casinos & art auctions. It’s no wonder Viking is so highly rated...we found this cruise to be faultless. In our opinion they’re a hard act to beat! Would totally recommend Read Less

We chose this cruise after taking a lovely and memorable river cruise with Viking. We had wanted to visit the Baltic countries on this itinerary. We were taken care of from the time we arrived in Stockholm until we checked into the airport in Bergen. The cruise on the Baltic was as smooth as the river cruise. This surprised us, as we had been on a previous Caribbean cruise (not a Viking cruise) that was quite rocky. The Sun and it’s crew was spectacular! The ship design and artwork were stunning and the cleanliness impeccable. The staff, to a person, was positive, professional and personable. The hiring, training and quality assurance of personnel is top notch. The staff were a team that handled themselves with a high level of friendly decorum. We ate our lunches on the Aquavit and found the food options to be plentiful and delicious. I loved the salad and salmon choices and my husband loved the meat, pizza and pasta selections. The freshness and taste of the food did not fail to delight. We often frequented the sushi bar as appetizers with early evening cocktails- heavenly! The choices for dinner in the Restaurant were plentiful and delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Chef’s Table (paired wines with each course) and Manfredi’s (Italian perfection). The many areas of the ship made the ambiance relaxing and personal. We enjoyed both the infinity pool and outdoor seating on warm days and the enclosed pool area on cool days. We loved the coffee/espresso/ cappuccino machine availability 24/7. Yes, I am a coffee fanatic! We enjoyed evening cocktails in Mamsen’s- beautiful live music and ocean views. Our stateroom was lovely. It was cleaned twice daily -when we left in the a.m. and at turndown while we were at dinner. The bathroom was spacious with drawer space for personal items. The bedroom had ample plugs for phone/iPad charging and two barrel chairs for sitting. The private balcony with table and chairs was sweet for watching the world go by. My only minor comment is that the drawer space was very shallow and hanging space limited for 2 people. Truth: I bring a lot of clothes. I appreciate the fact that there are washers and dryers and irons/ironing boards on each floor with detergent -included without extra charge. I have never felt so wonderfully indulged as I did on this cruise. Yes, we booked our next Viking Ocean cruise before we left the Sun! Read Less

Loved the itinerary. Viking Sun is a beautiful new ship with fabulous service, food, and included excursions. We loved the fact that there were fewer passengers. It wasn’t a cattle car that other larger cruise lines have. We loved not having young children running down the hallways like other cruise lines. No children under 18 are allowed. Highlights were the optional excursions- St Petersburg Ballet. And Norway’s Flam Railway. We loved the fact that everything is included. Such as fine wines and beers for lunch and dinner. Other cruise lines charge per soda, water bottle, glass of wine or beer. The staff are super hard workers who are very nice and friendly. The spa was beautiful and it was such a wonderful experience to treat myself to a massage and facial. Our cabin was super clean, quiet, and comfortable. We loved the heated bathroom floor. The service was OVER the top! Everyone went out of their way to make our cruise memorable. And although I was worried about seasickness in the Baltic, the sailing was perfect. Our cabin was much larger than we have had on other cruises and very comfortable. The ship was just immaculate as well. The many dining options offered so much variety - and the specialty restaurants do not incur an additional charge for a real gourmet treat! There were always things to do as well - use of the spa facility also did not carry an additional charge, and we loved the experience of "Nordic bathing." There were many enrichment lectures, activities, and fabulous entertainment that rivaled anything we have seen on Broadway! Read Less

I used the spa for a wonderful deep tissue massage. We really enjoyed Manfredi's restaurant, but were less thrilled with the Chef's Table, but perhaps it was the menu that was available on the night we went. Overall, food was outstanding! From my first phone call to inquire about a Viking Cruise I knew I had made the right choice! While on the Cruise we built friendships with members of the Viking Sun Staff that have remained in contact with us! Everywhere we went on the Viking Sun the staff welcomed us by name! The restaurants made us feel like we were walking into our favorite restaurant back home where they knew us and were excited to see us and had been awaiting our arrival. This was our first cruise on a Viking ocean ship after having taken the Romantic Danube cruise three years ago. We lucked out on the weather with 14 days of warm sunshine and the seas were calm. We had a junior explorer suite with plenty of room very close to the Exlplorer's Lounge. Our favorite spots were the fjords in Norway and St. Petersburg. Dining by reservation was super fun and we made new friends. The nordic spa experience seemed intimidating at first but we quickly bought in and visited several times! Our only disappointment was one of our shore excursions that was rescheduled to an earlier departure late the night before by the vendor and we missed the notice (and, thus, the excursion). Otherwise, things worked like clockwork and we are Viking Fans for life! On board shopping was excellent and very personalized. The daily previews were very informative and helpful and the fact that we could watch a video replay at our convenience was great. Read Less

What an amazing itinerary! The big cities: London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Dubin, Belfast...; but also the beautiful coasts and countryside: Loch Ness, Leeds Castle, Canterbury, the Orkney Islands, the Shetland Islands... Best way to get a perfect sampling of the UK IMHO. And as a bonus, you end your trip in Bergen, Norway. I had never been (and thought I'd never be) to Scandinavia. Nice that everyone is so friendly and speaks fluent English. Everywhere felt very safe, even the cities. Mostly used the British pound sterling (the Euro in Ireland and the Krone in Norway) so money was easy. Delicious Fish & Chips everywhere. Meat pies. Guinness, Scotch abound. Wonderful Celtic/Scottish music; bagpipe playing. Beatles in Liverpool (and London if you want to do Abbey Road). We did a combination of included tours, Viking pay tours, and stuff on our own. Nice mix. Service on Viking is impeccable and the food is delicious so you "come home" every night to a luxury floating hotel. Highly recommend! Read Less

My wife and I had taken a Viking River Cruise a couple of years ago and were excited to find that the company had gone into the sea cruising business. We were somewhat late in signing up for this cruise but found that the rear Explorer Suite was available. The reputation of Viking and our personal experience gave us great confidence that our money would be well spent. This proved to be true in nearly every segment of the cruise. Our early boarding was nicely done as our luggage arrived at our room in a very timely fashion. There was one problem which took time to resolve. The obligatory picture of each of us upon boarding for the first time apparently failed to register. We had to stand in a fairly long line to have that resolved which kept us from our room for about an extra hour. Once in however, we were made comfortable by our extraordinary Stewardess, Jackie. The Suite was beautiful and comfortable as I discuss in the box below. My wife had a hip problem that caused her to be uncomfortable in the two chairs provided in the room. We saw deeper chairs in the room next door and asked Jackie about exchanging one of ours for one similar to what we saw. Ten minutes later Jackie and her partner had the new chair set up and the other one gone. We were pleased to no end. This was just a sample of the extremely courteous, thoughtful service she provided throughout our voyage. The ship itself is the most beautiful and functional we have been on. Great care has been put into considering the comfort of the passengers and offering a different style of cruising from that of the competition. The dining experience was one of recognizing what was great and what was ordinary. I thought the seafood was outstanding and the beef dishes to be ordinary. This might be something to look to upgrading. The specialty restaurants were mixed, I felt.Manfredi's Restaurant was superb in both food and décor. The Chef's Table was okay except for the problem that causes the passengers to pick the date they want to be at that restaurant many weeks in advance without, as we found out, any knowledge of the style of food to be served at that sitting. We were fortunate to change our sitting to a different night when we found out that reindeer was not on our list of exciting food choices. I do suggest that something be done to allow passengers to have better information prior to making a choice on the Chef's Table. The port excursions were uniformly excellent. We loved them all. I particularly liked the trek across the headlands at Kirkwall in the Orkneys and Scara Brae. Our tour of Dublin afforded us the opportunity to see, hear and sing along with the best single day guide we have ever had. His name is Sam Ford and he is the best. Others were top notch as well. Needless to say, my wife and I will continue to patronize Viking Cruises both on the rivers and at sea. Our experience was the best ever and it is little wonder that the latest Travel and Leisure rates Viking Sea Cruises head and shoulders above the competition and with the highest rated ships of any size. Thank you for a most wonderful time aboard the Viking Sun. Read Less

This trip was everything and more that one would expect from Viking. It was our first ocean experience with them although we've done two Viking river cruises. From the time we arrived at the Port of Miami until we were loaded on buses for the LA airport, it was indeed the trip of a life time. This ship was simply spectacular! We were very hesitant to book an ocean cruise as the idea of a floating hotel of 2-3,000 passengers did not excite us. We were even skeptical of Vikings 930 passengers. That apprehension quickly disappeared, as we never felt like we had that many fellow cruisers. There are so many 'intimate' areas throughout the ship where people can read, chill out, play cards . . . We booked an Explorer suite and WOW, it was nothing short of amazing. The layout and amount of space was incredible. The dining options really appealed to us. We don't mind buffet style for breakfast and lunch but enjoy a traditional sit down with wait staff for dinner. It would be hard to chose between Manfredi's and The Chef's Table, as both offered fine dining with separate twists. The Chef's Table was SO intimate and we met the chef each time we dined there (6), which was quite special. Manfredi's offered a wonderful Italian style menu with beautiful wines - we enjoyed it almost a dozen times in our 23 day cruise. On board entertainment is not particularly important to us but we did attend about 6 evening performances, which were really quite good. Unfortunately we were looking forward to The Kitchen Table excursion but it was not available on this trip. Instead, cooking classes were offered on sea days and we attended 3. We had SUCH a good time. The classroom is state of the art and with only 8-10 participants, it's just a really interesting 3 hours. Most of the on-shore excursions were educational and interesting but there were a few duds - particularly Nicaragua. We also felt that we spent too much time in Cuba, and wish that one of the Cuba days would have been added to Costa Rica, Cabo or even Guatemala. Cienfuegos was a very disappointing first port of call. The primary reason for us booking this cruise was going through the Panama Canal and we were not disappointed. We were both very prepared for this part of our cruise, having both read the book "The Path Between the Seas." The excursion the day before cruising the canal was great as we got a local look at both sides of the canal and the actual experience of going through the locks, experiencing this enormous feat of mankind, was beyond superlatives. We enjoyed this cruise so much that on the second day, we booked the Alaska cruise for 2019 and booked the exact same room! If we could afford it, we would have booked several. Read Less

English tea! *enjoyed free amenities, including WiFi and spa facilities *wine served during lunch and dinner, no extra charge *specialty restaurants, no extra charge *beautiful library and lookout *nice stop at quaint islands of the Azores and Bermuda, no charge for excursion My husband and I took this trip after seeing multiple top reviews on the Viking ocean cruises. There were comments about the cruise lines targeting mature (and yes) sophisticated travelers, it didn’t bother us because we enjoy quiet, non-chaotic vacations. While we’ve cruised several times before, this was our first booking the flight through the cruise line. Viking chose a good airline, though in retrospect we should have planned a few extra days predeparture in Lisbon. I would highly recommend this cruise line to those who appreciate a more quiet luxury and all-inclusive value. Read Less

We chose this Mediterranean cruise because it offered 11 ort stops counting Rome. Unfortunately we missed one, Marseille, due to stormy weather. We experienced amazingly good weather except for that one overnight. This new ship is totally awesome, and perfect in every way. Lots of comfortable area, indoors and out, to sit and relax. The cabin was perfectly laid out with plenty of closet space, a large bathroom with heated floor, large shower and lots of towels. Good lighting and a large vanity with excellent storage shelves and drawers. The bed was amazing with lovely, fresh linens. Had a great sleep every night. The sitting area was comfortable with two chairs, a coffee table and desk. The balcony had comfy furniture and was a good size. The food was excellent quality, delicious with a huge variety including a sushi bar. There were many excellent choices of seafood every day as well as meat and vegetables, and all cooked to perfection. Breakfast offered an egg station where you could order any type of eggs. Eggs Benedict was offered every day. We experienced tours that were inclusive and ones we purchased. Every tour was top notch with excellent guides. Two times we did experience poor buses with dirty windows and torn seats. This was the only negative on the whole vacation. Viking staff are the best...they are organized, polite, friendly and intuitive. They make every effort to get to know you and provide you with your every need. They are an amazing group of people and I cannot commend them enough. They are the best part if the cruise. We did the pre cruise stay in Rome which was lovely. The Grand Hotel Palace was situated perfectly, although thought it was rather expensive for the room type we had. Very basic room. No coffee maker and no coffee available in the lobby. Breakfast was poor. We were not given any suggestions when we inquired about excursions (from host) other than we could share a taxi with others. We did manage ok on our own with the hop on-off bus and did enjoy this part of our vacation. Just thought it was expensive for what we received when compared with other Viking pre and post stays purchased in the past. Read Less
