With over 300 sea days on Holland America, we felt it was time for a change, and wanted to try out Viking Ocean. We could not have been more pleased with the overall experience. Check-in was swift and easy, with our documents awaiting us. We were also able to access our cabin earlier than promised. Our cabin was a Deluxe Verandah - nicely laid out, great bathroom with heated floors (also useful for drying wet clothes!), modern and clean. The TV systems are state of the art, and extremely useful - an example being the replay of lectures, etc. shortly after they are done live. It would be nice if the system had real-time data on navigation items such as course / speed / wind etc. Be aware that drawer space is somewhat limited, even with the extra ones in the closet on Sun, but the beds are high enough that even large suitcases are easy to store there, and can be used as additional storage. Our only cabin knock was the proximity of the closet to the bed - somewhat awkward to get at. Larger cabins don't have either of these two issues. Dining was excellent - the quality of food was high, and there are multiple choices. The open faced sandwiches in Mamsen's are exceptional - except for the calories, you could live on them! World café is good, with limited crowding, and would be excellent when the weather permits dining outside on the stern deck. The Restaurant is fully open seating, but we never waited more than a few minutes, even at peak times. The serving systems in the Restaurant seem to have multiple "handoffs" between the staff, and occasionally resulted in a missed request, but they were speedily corrected. Of the two specialty restaurants, we loved Manfredi's (Italian) - be sure to reserve as early as you can, as it's very popular. The Chef's Table was good, not great - some excellent dishes, some mediocre. We largely relied on the included shore excursions, as they tended to do an overview tour, and allow personal exploration afterwards. The two optional tours we used were well organized. Service levels throughout the ship were outstanding - even on a short cruise, the staff quickly learned to recognize us, and were always eager to assist. While we missed the chance to get to know our dining stewards as well as we have previously in a fixed-seating environment, we were able to make a few connections over the trip. Being so new, the ship is pristine and very stable and quiet. Maintenance is discreet, and not intrusive. And, the internet service put every other cruise line that we've been on to shame - a real leg up for staying in touch. Bottom line - we've booked two more voyages! Read Less

Great cruise line. Awesome ship and service. One of the best designed ships we have ever been on. Wraparound Promenade deck. Thermal spa outfitted with more different treatment areas (whirlpools, snow room, dry sauna, steam room, etc). Great fitness room. Most rooms between the common areas on decks 1-2-7-8 limiting how many stairs to traverse to get between rooms and common areas. Ship had no feeling of crowding anywhere. Common services desks designed to address client needs. Ship was largely digital meaning that many things could be accomplished through television set in the stateroom. Service was exemplary in every way. Wait times throughout the ship were short or non-existent. Service was highly anticipatory. All administrative activities including embarkation and debarkation, as well as port visits were professionally and efficiently handled. Very good food, using fresh, high quality ingredients. Food was well prepared and tasty. Special requests were handled by the culinary staff with aplomb. World Cafe had most items of the Restaurant + some additional surprises. Mamsen's deli was okay, but the Pool Grill was outstanding. Both Manfredi's and Chef's Table were very good. Could have offered more traditional desserts. On-board activities, while not lacking, could have been more robust. Afternoon tea was great featuring more than 12 types of tea. Enrichment lectures were good also and were recorded for later viewing in the staterooms. No casino or bingo which was a plus. Read Less

This is our first cruise with Viking and we are converts! We have cruised with most other lines and while we don't consider ourselves "cruise people", we do end up taking a fair amount of cruises. We really enjoyed the low key luxury decor of the ship. I read an interview with the CEO of Viking and he described his line as "the thinking man's cruise rather than the drinking man's cruise." I think that this sums it up perfectly. The library on the ship was amazingly well thought out and the educational presentations were outstanding. We also were blown away by the thoughtful touches on the ship - like a free laundry room on each floor. A special shout out goes to all of the staff - they were so helpful and friendly. I never felt like they were chiseling for tips. Truly, Viking felt like a Four Seasons Hotel at sea. We will definitely be back. Read Less

We choose the British Isles Cruise because we have always wanted to experience all that England, Scotland and Ireland. This was the best way to see them all! We plan on going back to each country! The tours were great and each tour we took offered accurate facts and the stories were filled with interesting stories. Our cabin was on the 6th level and had a spacious balcony and the room was just the right size featuring a comfortable king bed, sofa, coffee table, chair and a nice desk with a hidden vanity for one to apply makeup! We had more than ample storage and drawers for our clothes. The bathroom was lovely and we loved the heated flooring. The food that was offered was delicious and the selection satisfied all appetites. We enjoyed dining at 3 dining rooms. We loved the variety of entertainment which was nightly! The lectures were subjects that would interest almost everyone and the speakers were very well spoken and held our attention! We have already booked another cruise for 2021 but plan on booking another cruise for 2020! Read Less

We chose to go with Viking based the recommendations from friends. We are not typically cruiseship people; however, the limited number of passengers (900) appealed to us. We were not disappointed. The Viking Sun is a floating masterpiece of design and function. We booked a Penthouse Veranda Suite on Deck 6. I would book the same type of room on a lower level as the rough seas one whole day made it difficult to maneuver in the room. We had exceptional housekeepers. Both women were friendly and helpful for the entire experience. No need to twist a towel into an animal shape. The bar on the bow of the ship on the 7th Floor was wonderful. The view was always peaceful. The service was exceptional. We would also say that prices for alcoholic drinks were more than reasonable. We heard many people talking about other cruise lines and their exorbitant prices for drinks. We ate most of our meals in the buffet. The food was delicious, creative, gourmet worthy. We enjoyed having so many choices at each meal. We ate twice at Manifred's which was excellent. We dined once at the Chef's Table. We think that the space should feature a specific cuisine and not the "strange" combination of items that we experienced one evening. As for the excursions, I would concur with other Viking passengers: some of the excursions were merely large tour buses driving around congested streets. One glaring problem is that the excursions are NOT handicap accessible. There are no accommodations for getting off the ship and into a tour bus or van. In one instance, a gentleman in a wheelchair was lifted into the bus by the guide as NO Viking personnel were on hand to help him on or off the bus. The disembarkation ramps or steps were sometimes difficult for able bodied passengers. In addition, there are some very long treks from the ship to ground transportation. All of this information should be clear to people before they book the cruise. We felt that the paid excursions offered a much better experience than the included ones. With the price of a Viking cruise, we had hoped that some of the included excursions would be more interesting. We did not partake of any of the entertainment venues. We did listen to the guitar player in the upper level bar. We were bored out of our minds by the 10th day with his limited repertoire. We listened to the two-piece ensemble and were not impressed. We also did not use the spa or the "outdoor" pool. Well, no one used the outdoor pool; however, we did have 2 days of good weather and an open ceiling. We were surprised by the limited shopping on the ship, especially the Nordic store. I never saw anyone in the jewelry store except for our one day at sea. As for the library, that is a humorous label for the collection of books on the ship. Don't expect to find anything in a logical order by title, author or genre. Transportation to and from the airports was handled brilliantly on both ends. We will most likely do another Viking cruise in the near future. We truly had an elegant time in a casual atmosphere. This was our first cruise experience and we definitely feel we made the best choice with Viking. We couldn’t identify one thing about our cruise (and pre and post land tours) that wasn’t top rate. Every detail was perfect from the service, transfers, food, cabin and amenities. We were met at the airport by our Viking contact and taken immediately to our hotel in Oslo for a two day tour. We were then escorted on our train connection to Bergen to board the ship. After the cruise we stayed in London for a five day tour focusing on the life of Winston Churchill, which was great. Our hotel was centrally located and we were able to wash to all the sites in London- we even were able to check out the Brexit demonstrations. There were so many comfortable spaces on the ship, it felt like we were on our own personal cruise. There was never a line for any of the restaurants, the service was excellent and very friendly and personal- and the food was delicious and beautifully prepared. We enjoyed a variety of entertainment venues as well as taking advantage of the gym and spa- one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Every staff member on the ship from the top down was friendly and professional- many of the waiters knew our names from the first day. We enjoyed the included shore excursions in every port. There was plenty of time to explore on your own as well. We were so impressed that have already booked two more Viking cruises! Read Less

We chose the British Isles due to our longtime interest in our ethnic heritage, our love of the literature, and our desire to see with our own eyes the places we’ve been reading about for years. We were delighted with the ship and crew, the added academic and entertainment opportunities and each port. What a thrill watching the docking procedures, entering new cities and towns, discovering special nooks and crannies through the guided tours. An unexpected need due to a wardrobe malfunction was for sewing. There was a tailer on board!! He saved my wardrobe by adjusting the waist bands in two pairs of pants - thus increasing my pant options by 50%. Who knew? Well, our steward Nengah knew. Our steward was such a support and help. I think we will miss him for quite a while. We learned so much and discovered so much. We were living large the whole time and had to pinch ourselves off and on. Plus the dining options were perfect - casual when we were tired, white table cloths when we were leisurely. Beautiful presented and tasty as well, home cooking is suffering in comparison. Read Less

We had heard nothing but great things about Viking from several friends so we decided to give it a try. Our expectations were met on almost every level. Our room was great and the amenities were well designed and maintained. The staff who took care of out room were great. Food was excellent - several levels above what we have experienced in other travel. We ate most of our meals at the pool bar and the buffet, although I heard nothing but good things about the other venues. The "Chef's Table" was interesting, but seemed more focused on process than cuisine - other folks loved it. Manfredi's was really outstanding both in terms of food and service. Brunch at the pool during our final sea day was absolutely spectacular. There were educational and entertainment activities, but we chose to focus on reading and hanging out in comfortable spaces on the upper decks. Given the cost of travel on Viking and relatively small number of passengers, I expected the tours - both included and extra cost - to feature smaller groups and richer itineraries. We have traveled extensively with National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions and have come to expect early entry, meetings with key staff like museum specialists or directors and excursions focused on culture or nature that were a cut above marching around behind some guide with a flag. The excursion staff seemed poorly attuned with Norway weather. An open boat trip to "Troll Fjord" turned into a 2 hour trip in a small ferry with fogged up windows. We were notified of the change the night before, but not offered the opportunity to cancel and get our money back. Excursions need to be examined for improvement - especially the ones for which you pay extra. Embarkation and Debarkation were handled really well and the staff was very accommodating. The whole experience was as great as our friends had reported and we already have another Viking Ocean cruise booked. We both agreed that we could just live on the Viking Sun for an extended period because it was such a great place. Read Less

We’ve been on Viking river cruises and thoroughly enjoyed them, so we decided to try a Viking ocean cruise. We picked the Midnight Sun cruise starting from Bergen, Norway - then up the coast and into the Arctic Circle, then over to the Shetland and Orkney Islands, Edinburg Scotland and finally London (Greenwich) England because the itinerary sounded exciting. What a great cruise experience. Be sure to be up and awake to see Gerainger Fjord as the ships navigates it’s way in. Be sure to visit Mamsen’s for a Norwegian waffle with fresh fruit and Brunost cheese on top. Viking does it right - great sights, food and service - and the crew was nicer than any other cruise line we’ve ever been on before. We were on the cruise July 4th and they put out a feast that was over the top. A food presentation like nothing we’d seen before. When we crossed the Arctic Circle there was a ceremony to initiate new members of the “Order of the Blue Nose” - and we joined by taking a plunge in the icy pool and then kissing the fish - after which they put a glob of blue stuff (frosting?) on our nose - making us official members. We often had dinner in the specialty restaurants - The Chef’sTable and Manfredi’s. Both were very good - but the food was different but just as good in the main dining room and the World Cafe- so no need to feel you are missing out if you don’t make arrangements to visit the speciality restaurants. Throughly enjoyed all the events the ship had offered. Read Less

We wanted to return to Norway and also to experience Viking Ocean Cruises after reading the wonderful reviews. This itinerary was a great combination of both new ports and return to favorite locations. This trip lived up to our expectations. We especially valued the "grown up" ambiance of Viking Ocean ships. There were many quiet locations to read or play games or even work on a jigsaw puzzle. We could find the peace and quiet we relish while at sea. After a number of cruises we are no longer interested in casinos, hordes of people, children running around, or the frenetic busy-ness of many cruise ships. Our cabin was very comfortable. We appreciated the balcony, even though some of the days were too chilly to sit outside. We were above the Arctic Circle, after all. But we loved the views even on the colder days. We did find that there was a little less storage space than on some ships. The bathroom was awesome. It was such a treat to have a full-size bathroom and shower area rather than the cramped cubicles on many ships. The service and attention to detail was exceptional throughout the ship. The staff was friendly and accommodating and did their jobs well. Even the public bathrooms were meticulously clean, and even had the sounds of bird song as a bonus. The entertainment and on-board activities were everything we needed. Great performers--nice "young" kids who were very friendly and approachable around the ship. I felt like I wanted to take them home with me. The greeting and service on arrival at the airport was wonderful. The staff went out of their way to take care of us and our baggage. Embarkation was easy and smooth, which we really appreciated after a very long flight. Our only complaint was probably regarding the dining rooms. We found the tables to be very close together which made it quite difficult for us to have a private conversation. Also the acoustics of the dining rooms were "loud." Sounds and conversations from other guests and the wait staff became very noisy and reverberated through the rooms because of all of the hard surfaces. We utilized the buffet most of the time because we found it to be more pleasant. The selection of food was varied and delicious. We now consider Viking Ocean to be our cruise line of choice and we would love to sail with them again. Read Less

My husband and I so enjoyed our Viking river cruise from Paris to Normandy last December, we decided to splurge on a 15 ocean adventure aboard the Viking Sun. We weren't disappointed! Accommodations, food, service, and tours were excellent. Ship was immaculate, and shows and other entertainment, fabulous. Ship's band and singers played an amazing variety of music for listening, and best of all, dancing! What can we say about the sensational food aboard the Viking Sun? OK...my husband's doctor just told him to lose the 10 pounds he gained on both the cruises. We really appreciated that (good) wine and beers were complimentary at lunch & supper. Yup, it was easy to over-indulge well-made food almost all day and well into the evening! Most interesting ports in northern Norway, Scotland, and London. Included tours were extremely good with wonderful, informative guides. We can hardly wait to be able to book another Viking cruise! Read Less

This was our second Viking Ocean cruise and we had our first cruise with Viking on the Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise in 2014. Needless to say we love Viking! The crew is always outstanding and the food is great. There are always interesting tours and excursions available to suit everyone. The embarkation and disembarkation went flawlessly and as always the crew was ever helpful. We had the same level of cabin on both ocean cruises, the deluxe veranda and it is perfect for us. Our steward was fantastic and our room was spotless. We would travel with Viking any time and hope to do so again in the future. We especially love that there are no children and no casinos or water slides on Viking ships and the size of the ship is really great. We also love the free laundry on the ocean vessels. There isn't anything we would change. Please continue the wonderful service. Read Less

We mainly wanted to see what each place had to offer and decide if we wished to return to spend more time and explore. Some of the shore excursions were already booked so we did miss out on a few that we had really wanted. The ports using tenders were a bit cumbersome and time consuming. The ship was wonderful, cabin large and inviting and the dining was excellent with more than enough choices. We most enjoyed the Explorers lounge with the entertainment of guitar player Valentino. The pool and sauna area is also a wonderful feature along with the spa and gym. The service as always was excellent with all crew members being friendly, efficient at their jobs and going the extra mile. We thoroughly enjoy the Viking line and have already booked our next cruise. Read Less

PROS: Everything on ship was great, but the spa and fitness facilities were exceptional and surpassed any I've used on other cruises or on land. Pool under dome that could be closed depending on weather conditions. Talented entertainers, diverse and interesting educational presentations. All crew members provided outstanding and responsive service. Included WiFi worked most of the time and was acceptable given the technology limitations when far out to sea. COULD BE IMPROVED: Some included excursions were just walking tours near ship that left much to be desired. Many optional excursions had limited number of seats so most the best, most popular ones sold out early. Onboard shopping options somewhat limited. Time in most ports was too short--overnight stay would have enhanced the visit. It would be nice if itinerary could be flexible so that when a scheduled popular port (e.g. Easter Island) is inaccessible the ship can remain overnight in hope it can be visited following day. Viking came highly recommended by friends and family, and we chose this particular cruise because of our interests in ancient civilizations. While on the cruise, we were able to visit three different Mayan ruins. The food and dining options were second to none. Our favorite days were the At Sea days. We made full use of the spa, and went through the Nordic bathing ritual on an almost daily basis. Plenty of open spaces, with board games, cards, and a puzzle station. This is most definitely not a party or a booze cruise. Which is one of the reasons why we enjoyed it so very much. Our only issues were with the descriptions of some of the excursions, as well as the timing of the excursions. More time was devoted to traveling on the excursions than actuality at the sites. During a 7 hour tour, we only had 105 minutes to explore the site, and the remaining time was spent in transit. We would do it again, we were just disappointed that we didn't have more time to explore. Read Less

We took the New Year’s Cruise with Viking as our cousin’s had booked it and we love Viking. From the easy on to the easy exit all was seamless. Our rooms were ready so we went and checked out our room on the 4 th floor and our cabin stuart Mohammad was there to greet us and tell us what was different from the ship we took on the Homelands and he was excellent. The room was always made up, fresh water refilled and new towels and products refilled in the bathroom. Viking does it right, from all balcony rooms to no kids under 18 and no casino. They don’t nickel and dime you as specialty restaurants are included, wine, beer, soda included at lunch/ dinner but what makes Viking special is the crew, everyone smiling and always a sunny good morning/evening, nothing was too much trouble. A few issues we had was two of the shows were the same as the shows we saw a year and a half ago on the Homelands ( ABBA/Beatles) maybe it’s time to change shows as most people are returning Viking cruisers now. Also in our refrigerator on the last 2 nights we had all seltzer water with no diet/ regular coke as we requested and they don’t supply chips anymore just pack of nuts and small chocolates. This, I believe, was a new route for Viking, Turquoise Caribbean Seas, and some of the included tours were not up to Viking standards. We drove almost an hour to Mérida only to have half an hour in the main square and our guide gave no description of what we were looking at just, “ this is the oldest house, this is the oldest church” and no time to visit anything. The trip to San Gervasio was disappointing as our guide talked about the Mayan number system and calendar but not anything detailed about the complex and never saw the tall house, just the few ruins at the beginning of the complex so we had plenty of time to shop, which we didn’t need. In Key West we could not tender but Viking worked their magic and got one ship at port to leave early so that we could at least get into Key West and everyone could take the included trolley ride, but all optional tours had to be cancelled. On the plus side we were in Key West for the sunset. I took the Snorkeling at the Barrier Reef in Belize and it was a great tour, the guides were very informative and never left people on their own in the water. We were in groups and they had kayaks around in case anyone got in trouble, and a rum punch to wash out the salt water in the mouth when we came back on the boat made for a nice touch. We were dropped off at Belize port where most stores/ restaurants were closed because it was Sunday. One thing about this cruise was that there were two sea days (7 night cruise) and as Viking is a port intensive cruise line, this was a disappointment to us as another port vs. a sea day would have been better for us as we don’t like sitting around but enjoy doing things. Like I said we took it because of my cousin’s taking it and probably would not have chosen this cruise for just us, but we were continuing on to a Florida vacation so this was a nice start to it. We are already booked for Frances Finest River Cruise this summer and Empires of the Mediterranean for 2020 so Viking has our loyalty, this is just my observation of this cruise. Read Less

We chose this itinerary on Viking because we wanted to see Key West and spend a few days with warm sunny weather. We had previously taken a Viking River Cruise and enjoyed the smaller ship aspect of the Sun. From embarkation to disembarkation, we were treated like valued guests. Our room (DV6) on Deck 3 was spacious, well organized and with sufficient storage in closet, drawers and bathroom. We loved having the balcony and the room to enjoy coffee at sunrise and a wine at sunset. The coffee pot was a particular treat as we aren’t human until coffee is consumed. Instruction for pot were fairly clear and produced strong coffee...just right! All meals were tasty, varied and served with a smile and wine. We ate at Manfedi’s one evening and Chef’s Table another...both we’re outstanding. The entertainment was well planned and timed which suited those of us who are ready to retire before midnight. There were lots of public spaces to give the impression of a much larger ship....would highly recommend for a relaxing winter break...or any adult get away. Read Less

We love the size of the Viking Sun class ships and find the Viking staff very helpful welcoming. The Sun is a 2 yr old ships, which like others (e.g Viking Star) is extremely comfortable. This reposition cruise was a last minute decision to primarily to celebrate my spouse's recent retirement. Viking repositions this ship from Europe to MIA where Vikings starts its World cruise offering. Therefore, the crossing offers only two ports of call (Azores and Bermuda). While most people on board were seasoned travelers, a few people were surprised that even with all the greatest technical advances this ship could rock. While we had a variety of weather, the Atlantic is not a small pond and it can be quite rough. Although I heard some complaints, I was surprised about some very unrealistic expectations. Since, we actually treated the trip as an adventure we loved it and rod ecommend that you take some Dramamine with you on any cruise . We did not need ours and the medical center could provide some, if you got seasick. Based on our sailing history, we would not rate this past cruise as extremely rough. The cabins on board the Viking Ocean are very comfortable, clean and well layout. Plenty of space to move around in with many public nooks suitable for curling up with a good book! The Viking Staff is selected for their "yes, we can" attitude. Although each one us are very unique individuals, the Viking crew is overall very happy and proud to be working for a rapidly growing company which the staff likes with a 90% retention rate over any 10 yr period. Food as expected on a cruise, is abundant, diverse and always delicious. On Christmas Eve the SUN served large steamed lobsters and perfectly executed Osso Bucco in their regular dining room. There were a few caviar offerings at the bars with all daily events and menus for all meals posted on in-room tv monitors. A few times we needed to use room service and while it too was very tasty, it could have been delivered a bit hotter. Although this cruise had only two ports of call there was plenty of entrainment. We do like the fact that Viking does not have a casino onboard. There were some small poker games and Chinese Mahjong available for those so inclined. There are also video tables where you can enjoy playing a computer black jack dealer. In addition to excellent port of call talks, Viking has a number historians, technical experts (e.g driverless car engineering), and musicians discussing their expertise in very simple and interesting presentations. Viking requires that passengers be at 16 years or old, which we found the adults to be quite friendly and open to making new acquaintances. For us, most part we found tables for two available. Since our last cruise, the bars have a greatly expanded selection of quality brands. Since I favor Tanquary Ten, I was pleased that it was available at every bar. and covered by our drink package. There is a night club for dancing and a night cap, but we did not visit it this trip. The cruise director conducted a caroling sing along in the atrium on Christmas Eve, utilizing the classical pianists, the Viking band and even the on board acoustic guitarist. Unfortunately, I did scrap up my leg at the Lisbon Airport and I needed to used the medical staff to heal it. This inconvenience limited my ability to use the abundant spa fitness services on board. The Viking Norwegian spirt shines with very unique spa treatments and many pools located in the spa, in addition to the lap pools and hot tubs found on deck. On the SUN you can elect to start in a hot sauna and then cool down in an ice room with snow. If it is your thing, there are great gym machines exist and in the morning you are invited to yoga/pilates classes. Otherwise, weather permitting, you can take to the promenade and get your exercise by running or walking around the ship with instructions on how many laps constituted a mile. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and would consider going again. We find sailings of this duration suit our life styles very well and while we liked this crossing, there are so many other offers that we have not tried. First time on an Ocean Cruise...we are In our 60's and did not want to be on a cruise the size of a city. Viking is the best way to start and or finish. Will only take Viking as it is the BEST!!! Future booking are inevitable. We want to sail the world with Viking!!! All of the excursions were so informative and thought/organized so well. On board entertainment nightly and the bar service was grand. All on board service was from breakfast/lunch/dinner was outstanding. I just can't say enough of the service, meals, onboard ship persons and utmost service from all. Spa, pools and on board amenities are a huge factor on why we booked along with only 940 guests on the ship. Food and dining was so fabulous with lobster, Peking duck, shrimp, steaks/filets, fresh vegetables and amazing deserts....so much variety that you can choose from. You will never be disappointed with a Viking Ocean Cruise. Book today....enjoy what life has to offer! You will love it!!! Read Less

The ship is beautiful and the public area is plentiful and tastefully done. The spa area is excellent, I wish I have more time to explore the spa facility. The port Sete was not originally on the itinerary and it was not an interesting port for a stop. Shuttle service at Florence was not up to par. We were left at the bus stop for over an hour in the rain and we never received an apology for the mess up. The ride should have come every 30 minutes. On the positive note, the staff on board are excellent, not only did they carry out their duties perfectly, they are also very good in anticipating the guest's need and offer alternatives and help without being asked. The laundry facility is great, I just wish there's more of them, maybe one on each floor. We also had a mixed up in the reservation restaurant. We had to wait for a long time before we were taken care of. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the routing, and this time of year for the lighter crowds of the off season and cooler weather. We were pleased with both the weather and lack of crowds. Also everything was decorated for Christmas which made it even more beautiful. Over all both the tours provided and the extra excursions we purchased were excellant. However, on the Night of Flamenco in Barcelona, I felt the venue was a little too commercial. The dancing itself was excellant, but the tapas and sangria were mediocre at best. Except for the ham, cheese and olives, the rest of the tapas were not good, the sangria was not authentic and the creme brulee was burnt. Also, because we booked a morning tour for the Monseratt Abby, we could not also do the included tour of Barcelona, they overlapped by 15 minutes. It seems like they could have scheduled that better. Our pre and post extensions in Madrid and Rome were very nice. In Madrid there was an included 1/2 day tour of the city, excellent tour guide. In Rome however there was no included tour, I found this to be inconsistant. The food on the ship was excellent, fresh, delicious available. The Restaurant, their main dinning room, was order off the changing menu, and freshly prepared with service equal to any fine dining establishment. The World Cafe, the morning noon and night buffet was fresh, and delicious, with some prepared to order foods also. All of the other restaurants etc. were additionally as good, although, the lasagne in Manfredi's left something to be desired. Our Silver beverage package was worth every penny, (not expensive) it was basically an open bar the whole time on the ship. We are not heavy drinkers, but it was nice to have a cocktail or two before dinner or after an excursion. I loved that they charged us a flat fee daily, (15.00) for tips for everyone, without having to dig out cash everytime you turned around. The staff on the Ship were courteous, efficient, and friendly. The embarking and disembarking were efficient and easy. Never waiting, very organized. Over all a truly wonderful experience. Oh, and don't forget to try the Princess cake at Mumson's Read Less

The itinerary, length of trip, expense, and outstanding reviews led us to this booking. The food was delicious, and the wait staff was well trained. The spa afforded a lovely break at the end of the day. The clientele were generally older which made for quieter cruising. The full English tea daily was magnificent and a great time to meet new people.i my husband and I enjoyed all the amenities onboard and were delighted to find that there were no hidden expenses. Al-in-all this was an excellent value for the quality of service provided. We have already booked another trip and chose to try a river cruise after talking with seasoned Viking travelers. We will be taking a trip down the Rhine and Mosel rivers which will bring back many memories of our early married life when my husband was stationed with the USAF in Germany more than 40 years ago. My wife and I chose this cruise because it includes a tremendous opportunity to see a lot of Art Galleries and Museums as well as locations that are historically and socially significant. As has been our experience with all of our other Viking cruises, all facets of travel - from arrival to departure and everything in between - were handled beautifully by the Viking organization. The setting was elegant, and the people were incredible! Our cabin was roomy and well kept. The food was delicious and plentiful. Vikings chefs really know how to cook a variety of food styles and can please the most picky eaters. The specialty restaurants offer an elegant setting to try new dishes, and the staff in them are friendly and personable. The entertainment was fun - really enjoyed the classical music in the Living Room in the afternoons and evenings as well as in Wintergarden during tea time. We found the service to be second to none. The included excursions were fun and informative, and the optional excursions offered a wide variety of experiences you don't find on other lines. All things considered, we can't wait for our next trip on Viking! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we always enjoyed Viking River cruises. The ship's layout and rooms were very nice. It was very easy to get arround the ship. There were multiple restruants and they were varied enough to allow you to schedule your meals around you activities. The food were excellent. The land tours were informative and well organized. We missed two ports due to weather issues which was disappointing. Service was excellent and all crew were happy and smiled when you addressed them. Land excursions were led by well informed guides who could answer every question put to them. They adjusted the pace of the tour to keep the group together and stopped as necessary to allow the questions to be answered in detail. Entertainment was minimal and could be improved. The shows and pre-tour discussions that we attended were good. This was an adult cruise with few if any children. Embarkation and disembarkation process were well organized and went smoothly.
