We like this trip itinerary. Ship was very nice and clean. Every restaurant food was great. Room service was fantastic. We love spa. This is our first ocean cruise with Viking, we did River cruise with Viking before. We thought this ship is very small, once we arrived at port Viking sun is pretty big size and inside there are everything what we need and everywhere is enough spaces. Excursion of each port event are nice organized for city tour and proper duration for walking tour. Weather was much nicer than what we expected in May, every 8 country we were traveling sunshine and good temperature. Most of the top, we like no casino on ship and no children around. All staffs of ship are very kindness and knowledgeable what should know about their duty. I had bad experience with one of lady at front desk(passenger service desk) otherwise every where every staff are wonderful . We enjoyed very much this "Viking home land" itenaries and we wish stayed more over night at St. Petersburg. Read Less

I have always wanted to see the Scandinavian countries. Viking made this possible and it was the most wonderful cruise my wife and I have ever taken! We have taken nine cruises and this was the best!. Viking does it right, great accommodations, great food, great service! Viking is absolutely the best cruise line to sail with! One more thing, the room, the Explorer Suite was a jewel, as good as any hotel suite we have ever stayed in! The food was great, as usual, and the shore excursions were entertaining and educational. Our cabin steward, Adria, was the best ever! He paid close attention to our needs and the cabin was kept spotless. The stops in Copenhagen, Gdansk, Tallin, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm were wonderful with St. Petersburg being one of the most enriching and educational stops we have ever made! I highly recommend Viking for anyone wanting to visit these countries. It was truly a great time and educational to boot! Read Less

a cruise i have been wanting to do for a few years. we finally bit the bullet and spent the money to go. service could not have been better. if you can do it for a special occasion DO IT!! service of ice water at the pool - no problem finding plenty of open chairs. then sorbet and champagne around 3:30 to cool you off! high tea at 4pm in the tea room. smiling and accommodating help. great food which included something from the country we were visiting, free beers and wine with lunch and dinner, great burgers by the pool, a spa with a room full of snow, bathrooms with heated floors, lectures and entertainment also about and from the ports of call. an example of the service - i am short and had trouble using the single cup coffee maker that was on a shelf set in about shoulder high. to fill you had to put water in a container at the back of it and then press a few buttons on top which i had a hard time seeing . when we received a survey in our cabin asking for suggestions and comments my husband suggested in the future planning of rooms to switch the safe and the shelf to make it easier to use. the next evening our room steward showed up - "I am here to move your coffee maker!" we aim to make everyone happy. i will fill the back with water for you also! wow was my husband impressed as was I. this is just an example of what we experienced daily - besides the ship being beautiful. the right size also to get into tight ports of call. one great experience! my other cruise experiences pale in comparison. We had heard positive comments about Viking and when I was looking to plan a surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary Cruise I looked more closely at Viking. From my first phone call to inquire about a Viking Cruise I knew I had made the right choice! Viking made us feel like friends as opposed to a customer and that feeling continued up until we boarded the Viking Sun. While on the Cruise we built friendships with members of the Viking Sun Staff that have remained in contact with us! Everywhere we went on the Viking Sun the staff welcomed us by name! The restaurants made us feel like we were walking into our favorite restaurant back home where they knew us and were excited to see us and had been awaiting our arrival. Andriy and Andriy the Wine Stewards were ABOVE AWESOME! The Viking Band and Chris and Leroy were incredible entertainers that catered to the patrons of TorsHaven. We could no have wished for a better experience on the Viking Sun. Were we impressed??? Well, we booked our next two Cruises while on board! Read Less

This was our first cruise on a Viking ocean ship after having taken the Romantic Danube cruise three years ago. We lucked out on the weather with 14 days of warm sunshine and the seas were calm. We had a junior explorer suite with plenty of room very close to the Exlplorer's Lounge. Our favorite spots were the fjords in Norway and St. Petersburg. Dining by reservation was super fun and we made new friends. The nordic spa experience seemed intimidating at first but we quickly bought in and visited several times! Our only disappointment was one of our shore excursions that was rescheduled to an earlier departure late the night before by the vendor and we missed the notice (and, thus, the excursion). Otherwise, things worked like clockwork and we are Viking Fans for life! On board shopping was excellent and very personalized. The daily previews were very informative and helpful and the fact that we could watch a video replay at our convenience was great. Read Less

This cruise aboard the Viking Sun (930 guests) included overnight stays in Greenwich, England and Bergen, Norway. This allowed more time to explore these iconic cities of London & Bergen, as well as must-see destinations on the British Isles itinerary of Dover, Dublin, Holyhead Wales, Liverpool, Belfast, Ullapool The Highlands, Orkney Islands, Edinburgh (capital), Invergordon The Highlands, & the Shetland Islands. Each port had an included shore excursion led by a knowledgeable local guide. Our embarkation in Greenwich, England around lunchtime was a tender and went smoothly and the disembarkation in Bergen, Norway at 9:15am was also very organized. Free shuttles are provided in every port. The meals onboard the ship included regional specialties with beer, wine and soft drinks included with lunch and dinner. We also ate in the alternative specialty restaurants onboard, Manfredi's and Chef's Table, and enjoyed these exceptional menus. The mussels and ribeye steak in Manfredi's were delicious. The "Xiang" menu at Chef's table is outstanding in our opinion. We also did the 4pm afternoon tea one afternoon in the Wintergarden and couldn't believe how nice it was. As for entertainment, it was tastefully provided - we enjoyed the comedian (Rikki Jay) and singers (Helen Wilding) very much. The Viking Classical Trio from Serbia was relaxing to listen to in the Atrium and Explorer's lounge. The Viking Sun is an elegant ship throughout and the service onboard is impeccable. We are happy that there is no casino, formal night, or children onboard. All staterooms have a private veranda and include king-size bedding, large showers, LCD TVs, and 24-hour room service. We had room service for breakfast several times and it was great. We loved this cruise and have just booked "Into the Midnight Sun". The only recommendation I would make is to have the Spa open until 9pm instead of 8pm, and have a London Panoramic Tour or "hop on/ hop off tour. Read Less

My wife and I had taken a Viking River Cruise a couple of years ago and were excited to find that the company had gone into the sea cruising business. We were somewhat late in signing up for this cruise but found that the rear Explorer Suite was available. The reputation of Viking and our personal experience gave us great confidence that our money would be well spent. This proved to be true in nearly every segment of the cruise. Our early boarding was nicely done as our luggage arrived at our room in a very timely fashion. There was one problem which took time to resolve. The obligatory picture of each of us upon boarding for the first time apparently failed to register. We had to stand in a fairly long line to have that resolved which kept us from our room for about an extra hour. Once in however, we were made comfortable by our extraordinary Stewardess, Jackie. The Suite was beautiful and comfortable as I discuss in the box below. My wife had a hip problem that caused her to be uncomfortable in the two chairs provided in the room. We saw deeper chairs in the room next door and asked Jackie about exchanging one of ours for one similar to what we saw. Ten minutes later Jackie and her partner had the new chair set up and the other one gone. We were pleased to no end. This was just a sample of the extremely courteous, thoughtful service she provided throughout our voyage. The ship itself is the most beautiful and functional we have been on. Great care has been put into considering the comfort of the passengers and offering a different style of cruising from that of the competition. The dining experience was one of recognizing what was great and what was ordinary. I thought the seafood was outstanding and the beef dishes to be ordinary. This might be something to look to upgrading. The specialty restaurants were mixed, I felt.Manfredi's Restaurant was superb in both food and décor. The Chef's Table was okay except for the problem that causes the passengers to pick the date they want to be at that restaurant many weeks in advance without, as we found out, any knowledge of the style of food to be served at that sitting. We were fortunate to change our sitting to a different night when we found out that reindeer was not on our list of exciting food choices. I do suggest that something be done to allow passengers to have better information prior to making a choice on the Chef's Table. The port excursions were uniformly excellent. We loved them all. I particularly liked the trek across the headlands at Kirkwall in the Orkneys and Scara Brae. Our tour of Dublin afforded us the opportunity to see, hear and sing along with the best single day guide we have ever had. His name is Sam Ford and he is the best. Others were top notch as well. Needless to say, my wife and I will continue to patronize Viking Cruises both on the rivers and at sea. Our experience was the best ever and it is little wonder that the latest Travel and Leisure rates Viking Sea Cruises head and shoulders above the competition and with the highest rated ships of any size. Thank you for a most wonderful time aboard the Viking Sun. Read Less

This trip covered all that we wanted to see in one voyage the excellent weather we experienced was the icing on the cake. The exceptional service on board was the cherry on top. The size of the ship was a bit larger than we are used to but it ensured pleanty of room to not feel crowded. In port it was never a hassle with crowds to depart or return. The entertainment was "Broadway good". The food at the Chefs Table was our favorite with no problem making reservations for it whenever we wanted. I wish I was wealthy enough to do a Viking Cruise every year. That said, we have booked our next one for next year. We are spending our kids inheritance! Worth every penny for these experiences> There is no better way to travel. Our only issue was not enough time in each destination given the length of land transportation to and from the ship in port. They would go above and beyond to get you whatever you asked. Everyone on the staff was accessible, from the captain on down. Ship & crew were far & above expectations. Food was excellent @ beginning of cruise but average by the end, was to bland for my taste. Excursions were excellent, some countries guides were below average. The ports were good, some could have been skipped & more time spent @ other ports. No sports excursions such as golf, sporting events ( would have loved to go to cricket or rugby matches. No deep sea fishing. Viking could have gotten well over 30 people for these activities. The medical staff was excellent. Our room was great. Housekeeping was excellent WiFi was always an issue. Entertainment was good, lecturers were hit and miss, seemed to be overrun by UK lectures. If I’m in the Far East would liked to have had Far East lecturers not British etc. Also UK entertainment was to much, especially comedians., with most of the passengers US Or Canadian don’t get British humor But everything put together was well above my expectations. Viking offered their first world cruise that for us started in Los Angeles January 5, 2018 and ended in England on May 5, 2018. 4 months, 25 countries and 52 ports. I can't say enough how much the crew on Viking exceeded every expectation and provided customer service that was 5 star ++! You can not imaginine how efficient being on board ship allows you to make the most of your time, not only while at sea but also when at a port of call. Viking offers included tours at every port of call, along with many optional tours at each port. You can also go ashore in most countries and tour on your own. Most, not all ports, are very closet to if not right at city centers or you can take a taxi or "Tuk Tuk" to your desired destination. While on board Viking ships, 6 now in use and I believe another 8 or more under construction, there is so much offered that you can either choose to participate or not. We enjoyed the "Trivia" sessions where when at port for 1 hour you team up and play Trivia answering 15 questions and then a final team playoff. You not only learn a lot but get to meet so many new friends. The nightly entertainment was exceptional and changed as new top notch tallent came on board every few days. Most important is Viking's service. I expect a high level of service and my expection was exceeded time after time. Their staff from the Captain, first mate, Cruise Director, Hotel Manager, Chef and down to each employee treated you like family with smiles and chit-chat. We have already booked another cruise with Viking and are looking forward to seeing many old friends and can't wait for our next adventure on Viking. Don't wait or procrastinate, your own "Trip of a Life Time" is waiting for you...you won't regret it as you will have so many adventures and meet so many new friends to share your experience with on board Viking. The brand new Viking Sun, one of Viking’s many identical mid-sized ships to come, seemed ideal as it would be sparklingly new in every way. Then too, the itinerary sounded fantastic from Miami, Florida to London via the Panama Canal and Los Angeles, multiple south seas islands, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Manila, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia/IndoChina, Thailand, India, Arabian ports, Egypt, Malta, Algiers, southern Spanish ports, and Porto Spain. Many cruise ship features that are usually paid extra en route were included in the quoted cruise fares which made it feel richer and more convenient, but of course passengers are getting nothing for free. Wi-fi, for example, which has been a ripoff for many passengers for years, was “free” but very marginal and intermittent at best. For a very long cruise one was basically unable to carry on much of modern ordinary financial or communications needs with such inadequate service. Many ports were simply too far from sight-seeing and cultural destinations to make visiting them much more than very long round trip bus rides. Partly this was poor planning and port selection by Viking. Partly it was a low pecking order in port assignments for a firm new to many world ports. It also showed shallowness of knowledge about the most desirable places to visit. Many passengers were experienced and well educated and in some cases experienced comical day tours for quite a bit of extra cost. This was also true of on board entertainment, much of which was sophomoric. There was quite a bit of crew rotation which caused service of all kinds to be quite variable. About the time young crew members knew and performed their jobs well, they’d be off the ship and new ones joined. The younger crew themselves were wonderful and eager to please, so it was management’s newness to long cruising that was at fault. Cabins or staterooms were new, clean, cheerful, functional, and all had small verandas. Food service consisted of a breakfast and nearly day long buffet, three dinner restaurants, and several small bars and snack sites. One dinner restaurant was walk-in and the other two were reservation only. Good food was had, for the most part, but portions were rather meager in the reservation restaurants. The chefs in these two were quite creative, often too much so for some people. I would say food was one of the better aspects of Viking Sun. Senior crew who interfaced with the public seemed inexperienced and sometimes rather rude. Many were not very fluent in cruise languages, primarily English. There were quite a few excellent lecturers on board between many ports who added much to the amateurish shore excursions and on board entertainment. They were knowledgeable and fine teachers on many subjects. Read Less

This trip was everything and more that one would expect from Viking. It was our first ocean experience with them although we've done two Viking river cruises. From the time we arrived at the Port of Miami until we were loaded on buses for the LA airport, it was indeed the trip of a life time. This ship was simply spectacular! We were very hesitant to book an ocean cruise as the idea of a floating hotel of 2-3,000 passengers did not excite us. We were even skeptical of Vikings 930 passengers. That apprehension quickly disappeared, as we never felt like we had that many fellow cruisers. There are so many 'intimate' areas throughout the ship where people can read, chill out, play cards . . . We booked an Explorer suite and WOW, it was nothing short of amazing. The layout and amount of space was incredible. The dining options really appealed to us. We don't mind buffet style for breakfast and lunch but enjoy a traditional sit down with wait staff for dinner. It would be hard to chose between Manfredi's and The Chef's Table, as both offered fine dining with separate twists. The Chef's Table was SO intimate and we met the chef each time we dined there (6), which was quite special. Manfredi's offered a wonderful Italian style menu with beautiful wines - we enjoyed it almost a dozen times in our 23 day cruise. On board entertainment is not particularly important to us but we did attend about 6 evening performances, which were really quite good. Unfortunately we were looking forward to The Kitchen Table excursion but it was not available on this trip. Instead, cooking classes were offered on sea days and we attended 3. We had SUCH a good time. The classroom is state of the art and with only 8-10 participants, it's just a really interesting 3 hours. Most of the on-shore excursions were educational and interesting but there were a few duds - particularly Nicaragua. We also felt that we spent too much time in Cuba, and wish that one of the Cuba days would have been added to Costa Rica, Cabo or even Guatemala. Cienfuegos was a very disappointing first port of call. The primary reason for us booking this cruise was going through the Panama Canal and we were not disappointed. We were both very prepared for this part of our cruise, having both read the book "The Path Between the Seas." The excursion the day before cruising the canal was great as we got a local look at both sides of the canal and the actual experience of going through the locks, experiencing this enormous feat of mankind, was beyond superlatives. We enjoyed this cruise so much that on the second day, we booked the Alaska cruise for 2019 and booked the exact same room! If we could afford it, we would have booked several. Read Less

We have done 4 world cruises previously and wanted to try their first World Cruise 141 days. The ship is lovely the food was like most ships we did not as a whole enjoy the specialty restaurants the food was not the higher quality we expected. The portions were small and usually too salty or strange to our taste that even though they were offered to the world cruise set free we canceled our reservations after the 5th try! The Italian restaurant was good but did not offer spaghetti or angel hair pasta without previous arrangement. The room was lovely we had a Deluxe Veranda and the heated floors and large flat screen TV was the best we had seen, even in some of the ships highest end rooms! The service was excellent the restaurant staff and bar service was top notch. Because the ship was financed by the largest Chinese Bank the serving staff had to be a large portion of the staff was Chinese and they were well trained and excellent at their jobs! They went overboard with their on board cultural experiences! Entertainment was often local and the ship usually did only one show unfortunately there was no way to display the talent properly. Their theater seating could not seat everyone on board so many had to stand or dodge the person in front or get there early to get the front row. For some reason the ship refused to do 2 shows a night even though they know neither the pool area or theater could seat everyone on board. This was something we had never run into before so if you are going for entertainment you might pick another ship. All entertainment except for 1 night a week at the disco (the dance floor will only accommodate 6 or 8 couples) the bar was the only place they had real rock and role to dance to everything else was very cultural high brow. Guitar, Chamber Music,Opera ,Piano and Violinist were the order of the day every day!!!! If this is what you like this is your ship but if you were raised on Rock and Roll like most Americans seek another ship! A once in awhile comedian or magician was a treat. Believe me this can make a lonnnnnggg World cruise! If you like musical theater and dance this is not your ship. The ports of call were standard fare and as they were new at this some mistakes were made they did not have the money to pay for us to cruise Hulong Bay as we were promised we were not happy! One of the best things on board was the large outdoor seating for meals on the stern. When the weather was good they threw all the sliding doors back and it was wonderful. The Spa is spacious and the extras they offer are great fun. The Gym is well thought out and works very well. Only it does not open early so if you want to exercise early or late you will find that it is closed to the guests and opened for the crew only! Beware we were told Cruise insurance was included of 150% when my husband became ill but they paid us less than 100%. There was no asterisk or foot note to say up to etc. even on the contract but the insurance company refused to live up to the promises that Viking made to us in their brochures so you might want to get additional insurance. In essence she is a lovely ship but would be better on a shorter cruise. Also beware the promises that Viking makes they will not pay 150% they lied! When I booked the cruise they said they had Zumba on board and they did not! Read Less

We chose Viking because we had cruised with them on the rivers of Europe. We chose the 141 day World Cruise so we could see the world. We were not disappointed on either goal. Many friends asked before the cruise if 141days was too much and we weren’t sure but now that it is done we could recommend it without reservation. The ship was brand new and a beautiful design, elegant but comfortable, plenty of places to find a quiet spot to read. There were bridge lessons and duplicate play which was a surprise. The entertainment was fantastic and quite varied. Food was outstanding. Viking doesn’t nickel and dime you with a lot of extra expenses. On such a long cruise we actually got to know the crew well and crew members actually left the ship before we did and the good bye ceremonies were great. Our Cruise Director, Heather Clancy, was the most amazing talent and amazing person. As we left the ship to come home at 4:45AM in London, she was there to say good bye and give us a hug, as were the other Officers. She also led our Christian Worship each week. The house Band was amazing and backed up a wide range of entertainers on the stage at night and performed afternoon concerts in the atrium. The whole 141 days was the trip of a lifetime. Read Less

A goodly number of dining venues was available and all were very good. The ship planned many, many daily activities just in case the shore excursions weren't enough. And at every port, there was always one included excursion. There were also a varied quantity of other excursions if you wanted to go in a different direction. The nice thing about the ship being smaller was that we rarely had to be tendered into port. Also, we visited ports that larger ships couldn't go to. Initially the Wi-Fi was too slow, but the management listened and arranged to have it augmented and sped up. Much happier after that. The en suite TV electronic system was marvelous. The service was wonderful and the crew always cheerful and attentive. Getting on and off this ship was much easier than the larger ships by far. Will definitely sail with Viking again. Read Less

We have always enjoyed cruising with Viking. First with their river cruises and then Ocean cruise. We initially were skeptical about a 120 day ocean cruise but we were. very happy that we chose to take this cruise. I had some food allergy issues but the staff were very good to make sure my needs were accommodated. The staff of the ship were excellent. From the Barista who made us Capuchinos, to the bartenders and all the dining staff in the various restaurants. The Captain had a good sense of humour and kept us informed of what was going on. The Cruise Director was outstanding in all aspects and readily available to talk to anyone. The entertainment throughout the cruise was excellent. The enrichment lectures were very good for the most part. The shore excursions surprised as and were very good. Overall, no complaints at all. I would gladly recommend this cruise and Viking to anyone. Read Less

We had planned for this Viking inaugural round-the-world cruise two years earlier, but we decided to get married one week before our departure - so it became our extended honeymoon and what a memorable honeymoon it turned out to be. Before signing up for the cruise, we studied the countries and ports we will be visiting. We were very impressed with the ports that Viking has chosen since most of them were not the frequently picked by the usual crowd. We were also glad that Viking has taken the chore of obtaining all the necessary visas at no cost to us. The entire embarkation and disembarkation process was a breeze and we were the envy of the passengers of other cruise ships docking nearby. Everything was top notch, services such as dining, entertainment and excursions, to the ship and cabin. Viking has always been rated numero uno for their river cruises, but after launching world cruises three years ago, Viking has been rated numero uno already for 2016 and 2017 - very impressive. Viking has won us over as life-long clients. Well done, Viking! Read Less

I chose this cruise because it is special since it is Viking’s Inaugural World Cruise and stops at some places I have always wanted to experience and it is adults only. The ship is beautiful with “the best of everything “ in all areas. There are several choices of places to have delicious meals. I have never experienced such service. The staff bends over backward (with a smile) to make sure you have a wonderful time. There are always activities if you choose to participate or many places to relax if you would rather not. I was disappointed in many of the ports, although I presume to understand the reason. There were many industrial ports where you had to take a rather long bus ride into the city in order to take an excursion or explore on your own. My main disappointment was the time in some of the major ports. I had the expectation that, when there were overnights in a particular port, having 2 days in that port. One day for an excursion and another day for either another excursion to go into the city on your own. I am EXTREMELY disappointed that I had no time Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily for itinerary which included Cuba and some ports my husband and I had not visited before. We had previously taken a Panama Canal cruise prior to the opening of the new section. Ship and onboard experience was excellent. But ports of call experience was below our expectations. At several locations it appeared we were assigned docking locations that were less than prime which made it very difficult to explore shops or sites on foot just off the dock. We are used to taking a tour in every port, but then also being able to explore on our own near the ship if time allowed. In most of our ports we were not able to do this "right off the ship shopping/exploration" so our port experience was basically limited to the tours. Jamaica was substituted as a port after our Cuba port was changed from Havana to Cienfuegos. We loved Cienfuegos and Cuba but Jamaica was the worst port experience we have had on any cruise. We did take a tour, but our time would have been better spent if we had simply stayed on board in Jamaica. This was our first experience with Viking. Embarkation was the best we have EVER had!
