I would like to comment on the excellent experience we had with my wife at Viking Sky. Before leaving, we had apprehensions regarding entertainment on board and the age of the passengers. We are not young (58 and 46 years old) but we knew that the average age was higher. The truth is that although the average age is higher, it was very nice for us to be on the boat without children or teenagers, without a casino, without photographers, without sellers of trinkets. the shows were of quality, the conferences very interesting, the first level gym, the extraordinary spa, the fantastic living rooms to read, the swimming pools with sun loungers available, the exceptional food both in the buffet and in the restaurant, always, and I insist, always with tables available for dinner, breakfast and dinners. This is our 15th cruise and we have used MCS, Costa, Royal, Azamara, Princess and Celebrity, and from all of the above we can say that Viking has been our best experience and best quality price ratio. Viking does it right. We had a wonderful cruise sailing the Baltic Sea! Even on a full sailing the ship never felt very crowded. EMBARKATION- Super smooth. Rep at Stockholm airport and they put us in a private transfer to ship. About 45 minute ride. On ship in a minute after arrival Stockholm- Took included tour. Bus tour around city with quick photo stop at city hall. We then went to Vasa Museum on our own which is highly recommended. Viking provided a complimentary shuttle back to the ship every half hour from in front of the opera house. QUICK TIP: If departing from Stockholm in the morning, get up for the sail away. We left at 5:00am and the first couple hours of cruising we just idyllic St. Petersburg- We did the included bus tour with short stops at Church of Spilled Blood and St. Isaacs Cathedral. We also did the Canal Cruise which was a little disappointing. We really enjoyed the actual canal cruising but that only lasted 1 hour of a 5 hour shore excursion. The rest of the time was spent inside the 2 aforementioned churches. For $100 a person we would have enjoyed more time cruising the rivers QUICK TIP: BE VERY CAREFUL with your passport. If you lose passport you have to drive to Moscow to get a new one. Thousands of dollars and a missed cruise later you may have a story to tell but not one you want to have to tell Tallinn- This was actually our favorite port on the cruise. Such a well preserved Old Town really transports you back in time. The included tour is mostly walking with a short bus ride. We stayed on our own in the Old town area before catching the complimentary shuttle back to the ship Visby- A really surprising delightful island. About a 2 hour walking tour through the town. Loved seeing all the ruins. Highly recommended QUICK TIP: It is really windy outside the town walls. Once you get inside the walls it is more bearable Bornholm- Bus tour through the countryside with two 30 minute stops along the way in small fishing towns. We didn't particularly love this tour, although the countryside is really pretty there isn't much to see in the towns. There were amazing fields of yellow flowers in bloom. Copenhagen- 3 hour walking tour. Walk alongside the harbor to Little Mermaid statue, through Kastellet grounds, Amelienborg Palace and ending in Nyhaven area. This tour is pretty demanding and we were exhausted by the end of it. In reality you could just see these sights on your own at your own pace and with only one day in Copenhagen if I were to do it again that's what I would do. Shuttle service all day from near Nyhaven street. In the afternoon we went back into city and rented bikes. The city bikes (bycyclen white bikes) are a great way to see the city. Bike paths are everywhere so it feels pretty safe. Also they have electric engine assist which made it very easy to ride. About $3 per 30 mintues and there are stations throughout city to drop the bikes off- Highly recommended DISEMBARK- Smooth and helpful with staff everywhere assisting. The main downside is they transfer you to airport SOOO early. We arrived at CPH at 9:30am for a 1:30pm flight. The checkin counter didn't even open until 11:30am. Just be aware if you book transfers with Viking you will get there way too early, but I guess its better than the alternative. Dining- We thought the food was excellent overall. We ate most meals in world café because we enjoy the convenience of picking a little of everything. We did have 5 meals in the specialty restaurants and each was a very special experience. Manfredis was probably our favorite venue but beware portions are huge and room is loud. Chefs table is a much quieter environment with 4 course food/wine pairings. Don't miss Mamsens waffles in Explorers Lounge! The only item that was disappointing throughout the ship was the brewed coffee. It was awful. We ended up getting lattes and cappuccinos from the Viking Living room bar on Deck 1 each morning. Those were very tasty. Entertainment- Don't expect large productions but there was some performance each night. Our favorites were the Russian dancers who came onboard as well as two opera singers in Russia as well. If you don't make it out in St. Petersburg to see a ballet or other show its nice that Viking brings that local entertainment to you. Also Cruise director Bevin had a performance one night which was outstanding. The 4 piece singing group was just ok. Production was a little bit cheesy at times. Ship- Perfect size ship. Never felt crowded. Weather was nice so we enjoyed some meals outside on pool deck. Also be sure to go to Spa for steam room and ice room. Work out those sore muscles. Hope this review helps those considering this itinerary. You really cant go wrong with Viking and we keep coming back to this cruise line for the amazing food, attentive service, long times in port, no screaming kids and plenty of space onboard to relax and enjoy family and friends Read Less

Viking always does it the right way. Just about everything you would expect is provided and included. Excellent service, embarkation was a fast and efficient, boarding, bag delivery prompt, cabin room ready and pristine ( the cabin attendants were excellent, prompt and great attending your personnel requests) Meals as always were great, a selection as always for what pleases you on each meal. Spa and fitness is great and easy to do your own workout or experience the ships offerings. Excursions are plentiful and depending on your preference very good. We feel very comfortable on any of the Viking cruise offerings, either river of ocean. The ship is a smaller ocean cruise liner but has all the features you may want, there are no water slides or other features that younger couples and families would require, it is more an mature adult atmosphere where comfort, great food and drink are appreciated in a slower pace than other large cruise ships provide. Overall it was and great experience and will book again with Viking on my next vacation. Read Less

We booked our flights through Viking and 2 days before departure, we were informed by Viking that our flights had changed from SAS to Lufthansa. (SAS gave us the same information 1 DAY before departure!) Times were very similar, we arrived :15 later than the SAS flight. The reason for the last minute change was due to an SAS strike. I mention this because when I tried to contact LF to select my seat, the airline said I had to do it at the airport. It was a bit stressful. I called Viking Air. They immediately jumped into action and got all our seats together! We were a party of 4. Great service by the Viking Air staff! When we arrived at the airport in Copenhagen, there we Viking Staff available throughout baggage claim to help direct us to the busses. At the Pier, we checked in relatively quickly and our rooms where available right away. Our bags were in our room within an hour of our arrival! We made reservations for Manfredi's and The Chef's Table on line before sailing. During the 11 days, we were able to get into both restaurants a couple more times! We were not interested the the evening shows, so I can't really comment on them, however we did like Matthew, the guitarist who played :45 sets around the ship. Included shore excursions were OK. I think it was hit and miss with the tour guides and they tended to be larger groups than the optional excursions. The best optional tour we took was the Soviet Flashback in Estonia. Although I have to add that if you are more interested in visiting the old part of the city, you should do this tour in the AM instead of the afternoon. I would have liked more time in Estonia. We used Alla Tours for our 3 day St Petersburg tours. I can't say enough about them! Svletlania was a great guide for our 3 days! I would use them again and again! The service on the ship was wonderful. It was our first Viking cruise. We have cruised other large ships and have not received the same service as we did this last 11 days. Great job by all! Vlad, Alex, Vickie, Shelia. All FANTASTIC! Read Less

The Itinerary is great and you will see spectacular scenery in Norway. Unfortunately, with any cruise you can't control the weather which is really important if you want to see the Northern Lights. We were glad we were able to see the Northern Lights but somewhat disappointed in the color and brightness due to most of the nights being cloudy. Also, cameras really pickup more color than the naked eye so having a camera that is capable of taking pictures of the Northern Lights is critical. Viking Sky does a good job of providing guest hints on how to take good pictures of the Northern Lights. We had a stress free embarkation in Bergen Norway. Very convenient location within walking distance of several hotels and attractions which made it nice since it was an overnight stay on the Ship in Bergen. The ship is gorgeous and mostly well maintained. They do a really good job of keeping the common areas clean. But be aware of the ice that can accumulate on the outside decks. It seems that Viking could have put a barrier around the ice which would have really improved the situation. This was mostly an issue at night when people would go to the decks and couldn't see the ice. I really like having the Self-service launderette. Our stateroom attendants were very friendly and did a great job taking care of our stateroom. The capability for Viking to notify guest, who wanted to be alerted no matter what time of the night, that Northern Lights were visible from the ship was fantastic. It did really add a special touch to the cruise. There were more movies and shows available on the TV then expected. The dining staff did a good job and were very friendly. I really like that the World Cafe for the most part served the same food that the Restaurant did so if guest didn't want to dress for dinner they had they same food options. Viking could expand some of the options such as bread and cookies so that each meal isn't the same the entire cruise. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of options but each lunch and dinner had the exact same bread everyday. I liked the availability of the specialty food buffets that were served on the pool deck that provided added flexibility and variety for dining options. We really enjoyed our dinners in The Chef's Table and Manfredi's. The included wine was mostly good except we really didn't enjoy the German red wine they had several meals. The included excursion for the most part were rather boring and didn't do much other than drive around and I think Viking could do a better job of describing the tours so guest will have a better idea of what to expect. For example, the tour in Bergen explanation of the excursion should reflect the actual excursion making it clear that it doesn't stop at the King Haakon’s Hall, the Rosenkrantz Tower or the Fish Market. We did really enjoy the included excursion in Tromso where we visited the Northern Light Planetarium. We enjoyed the warm drinks (especially the Baileys and Hot Chocolate) when returning to ship from our excursions. For the most part, Viking Sky did a good job of getting guest on and off the ship. The second day in Bergen was the only port that the line was extremely long when returning from our excursion. Disembarkation was extremely smooth. Do not expect taxi's to be readily available at the Tilbury port. Transportation should be planned prior to disembarkation. We rented a car from Enterprise which picked us up at the port. Read Less

Chose this cruise with the main intention to see the Northern Lights. Viking handled all the arrangements for us. Our flight schedule from our home in Tennessee to the ship in England was smooth and very prompt. We only had a couple hours between stops and the transfer from the airport to the ship was quick and smooth. There was always someone there to direct us and get us to the right place. Tip! The ship store has ice cleats for $10 a pair and trecking poles for $17 each. And I advise you to get a pole. Cleats not so much. Included tours: We went on every included trip and enjoyed them all. Note: The crew does a great job of getting everyone on and off the ship and buses but it is cold and dark sometimes so react accordingly. Also the days are short this time of year so you need to be on the early tours for the excursions except the Lights hunting then later is better. Remember the crew can't change the weather! We went on the 'In search of Northern Lights' trips in Tromso and Alta and were lucky to see the lights at both locations. I must say to everyone remember you are at the mercy of the weather on this trip so be patient and remember the crew cant change the weather. I heard many say the trips we not that good but if the weather had cooperated things would have been much different. Tip: Take hand warmers if you plan on taking pictures. Tip: Take a face mask! Many people had the cold weather gear but few had face covers and when you are outside in a 10 mph wind at -6 Degrees Celsius your face will get extremely cold! Big Tip: Your cell phone will not work to take pictures of the Northern Lights! I know there are apps out there that say the will help but trust me they do not work! If you want to take pictures of the lights that look like what you see on tv then get you a good camera and a tripod. Here is another Big Big tip: Learn how to use the camera and the cell phone BEFORE YOU GET THERE! Standing in the cold and dark with your flashlight on ruining everyone's night vision while you are trying to figure out how to set your camera will not win you many friends! Tip: There are several private companies in Tromso and Alta that have trips to find the Northern Lights so check those out also. You actually have a better chance of seeing the lights on a private tour because they have smaller vehicles and can move around easier and quicker than the buses. Entertainment: this is not a Disney cruise or a booze cruise! You will find interesting passengers and crew. The shows are fun but it's not Vegas style. The talks are informative and interesting but not for everyone. The pool is cold as is the weather. We were never bored on the trip as there was always something to do or interesting people to talk to or beautiful scenery to watch. We had an excellent time on this cruise! The ship is beautiful and the food is excellent. The crew is one of the best we have been around. The excursions are a little pricey but if you remember where you are and the problems presented by the weather and the locations then they are really priced very fair. And Remember::::: The crew can't change the weather! Read Less

I’ve been on the ship (Viking Sky) before and it is very nice so we decided on scheduling another cruise with Viking. I was looking for a birthday cruise. Viking provides great service and even a bottle of sparkling wine (Sekt) and a cake on your birthday. Plus all the great restaurants, shipboard amenities, very nice spacious cabins, and comfort while you cruise. Really enjoyed the aquivet terrace for lunch al fresco. Excursions were well planned and very enjoyable. The transfers to the hotel and ship were smooth and the transfer from hotel to ship even included a free tour of Barcelona. We have already explored much of Barcelona on the extension before the cruise and enjoyed tapas and watching the Spanish (Catalans) celebrate the end of the holiday season on Three Kings Day when they actually celebrate and give. Gifts so our Barcelona tour on the morning of January 6 was very quiet. The cabin is very nice. Every cabin has a veranda and ours was a penthouse veranda on a middle deck. The bathroom is very functional and roomy for a ship. Good toiletries and high quality towels plus lots of storage for your kit. The heated floors in the bathroom are very nice especially on a cold morning. The cabin has lots of storage for clothes and everything that you might bring aboard. There is even a mini refrigerator with complementary drinks. Plus binoculars to use on the veranda, a hair dryer, and robes to wear to the spa. We used the outdoor hot tub, very nice. On previous trips we have used the indoor spa with hot tub, pool and snow grotto - a lot of fun. This trip we finally used the exercise room, which is included free, and has good quality machines. All of the restaurants are nice. We had lunch in the World Cafe and it has great variety of food and also had sit down multi course lunch one sea day in the Restaurant. Dinner was in The Restaurant most nights with local specialties or European food. The nights we ate in the upgraded restaurant - Manfredi’s was excellent - great Italian food and especially the steak Florentine. The Chef’s Table is also nice with food and wine pairings although frankly we don’t like it as much as the other restaurants. Breakfast is great with lots of choices at the World Cafe and one day we tried the Norse food at Mamsem’s although really just had a waffle. The ports on this trip are nice but not as special as other trips. Barcelona and Malaga were the best. Cartagena almost as nice. Vigo was interesting and we did the optional tour to Bayona. Portsmouth was a good port especially cruising right by the old town as we left the harbor. Read Less

Having greatly enjoyed our Viking Cruise of the Northern Mediterranean, we wanted to enjoy the experience of the destinations in the Southern Mediterranean, knowing the fine service and accommodations Viking provides. And we were not disappointed. Our cabin was beautiful and fully appointed, the service from EVERYONE on the ship was excellent, and the destinations very interesting. And, nicely, each destination was more interesting and beautiful than the one preceding, culminating in Barcelona. The smaller size of the Viking cruise ship makes for a very personal and efficient travel experience. We had total comfort at all the bars and dining areas. The food, whether fancy or casual, was terrific. Our excursions were well managed and the local guides in every instance were excellent. We particularly enjoyed our tour to the Argiolas Family Vineyards in Sardinia, as it showed us both the city and rural areas of the island. The Casbah Stroll tour in Algiers was unforgettable but be warned, it is a lot of walking on uneven pavement and steps. Well worth it for anyone, even older people, with no difficulty walking. We recommend that people extend in Rome before the cruise to avoid the stress and fatigue that come with arriving on the same day as boarding, and that people extend in Barcelona because it is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. We would love to do this cruise, or any Viking cruise, again. Read Less

Would have loved to have more items from the geographies' visited. *Service in the bars was very good, attentive and friendly. *Lack of Holiday decorations was disappointing...ship was sterile in appearance (previously enjoyed Crystal cruises...Holiday trimming there was amazing!) *Scandinavian restaurant menu (fixed) was disappointing and we cancelled our second reservation. Believe the party we travelled with also cancelled their reservation...lack of choice primary reason. *When returning from Taste of Sicily shore excursion, all restaurants were closed except Grill...however due to the number of buses returning simultaneously, people were in the cue for 45-50 minutes...seems to me that the timing of this excursion should have been better managed by Viking. We were looking for a smaller ship that visited different ports than the larger cruise lines. We really enjoyed the smaller cruise ship. It was easy to get on/off at our ports, the optional and included shore excursions were very nice. No children made for a nice experience onboard. The only negative was the entertainment was not nearly as good as the bigger ships, but I didn't go on the cruise for the entertainment. The food is excellent, even having high end food like foie gras and lobster. The optional dining experiences (all included) were terrific - very much like eating at a very nice restaurant. Our cabin steward was excellent and made sure we had everything we needed. We booked the silver spirits package and enjoyed diet cokes throughout the day and a couple of cocktails at night. We always wanted to go to Europe, but didn't want to go alone since we don't speak any languages besides English. This was the perfect way to see so much, have wonderful experiences, and truly leave the worries at home. Viking met us at the airport in Barcelona, managed our luggage, took us to the ship, and made it very relaxing. Once on board, the accommodations were exquisite, the food was marvelous, and the staff was very attentive to our needs. The included excursions were very well planned. The extra excursions offered were good values for what they included. We were definitely overwhelmed with the quality of the vacation. If we had to change one thing, we would have upgraded our airfare to first class so we would have been more well-rested after traveling all night. The coach flights on Delta were nice, but the seats were quite confining for two tall people. So we were worn out for our first night in Barcelona and spent it aboard ship. I would recommend getting the larger cabin that includes the silver beverage package. It is well worth the money if you enjoy fine wine. I can't wait to explore with Viking again. Read Less

Viking Ocean Cruises is clearly still working out the kinks. We were on a Cruise through the Mediterranean for 9 days ending with an extension in Rome, Italy. As we arrived in Barcelona and saw the filthy and vulgar graffiti on the way to the ship, we were clearly unprepared for what was about to unfold over the next several days. To sum up the time on the ship it was overall mediocre at best often being reminded by staff that this is their final cruise which reflected in the efforts to be attentive to the guests. They all appeared very exhausted and short tempered when asked to do what we simply paid a generous amount for to relax and enjoy. The best way to describe the food is recycled and nothing to get overly excited about because of the redundancy and no creativity. Concierge was extremely inconsistent causing an abundance of confusion when trying to schedule and enjoy the expensive excursions paid for in advance. We were given mixed messages on several occasions causing us to never get off the ship to experience Barcelona because the buses had flat tires and were broken down. We found ourselves overwhelmed by fumes and awoken by grinding engines porting at 6am or screaming messages over the intercom awaking us at 7am. We also had the veranda cleaned which started at 7am, and my point here is that we could never sleep in or feel rested. As we moved in to other ports, we found ourselves sitting on buses that were 100 degrees and also full of fumes from sitting idle for hours. The excursion in Florence had to be the worst! As the guide rushed through the uneven streets at a very fast pace, we had an older woman do a face plant in front of us. Because she was rushing it took some time for her to realize several of us were left behind attending to the lady that fell. My husband and I witnessed her fall and decided to stay close to her until we re-boarded the buses. The lunch served on this excursion was horrible and there are no other words to describe it. As we wrapped up the cruise portion of our trip, we had high hopes that the extension in Rome was going to make up for all the unfortunate experiences so far, but boy were we wrong! The "five star" hotel was nothing short of an average Hilton or Marriott. To sum up Rome...it is NOT safe with street peddlers grabbing you and forcing their goods on you, or it is NOT safe due to the drug dealings we witnessed in front of us walking around the Spanish steps area, it is NOT safe because the volume of people versus the police is about 1ooo to 1. We will NEVER put ourselves in this position again! The absolute worst part of the trip was trying to get home. We were so thrilled to have made it to the airport and thought this nightmare was close to over when the flight was cancelled leaving us stranded. We stood for SEVEN hours to get rerouted with no water. Again, the coordination was left up to the incompetent Viking staff to reroute luggage and several individuals, it was awful. Long and short a day and 1/2 later we had to stay in a 1-star hotel which I might add may have been nicer than the $600 a night hotel in Rome. We incurred additional costs for food, etc. This trip was to be our 10-year anniversary and a Honeymoon we never had. We have tried over the past couple months to not remember it all as bad and have tried to laugh about a few of the instances, but unfortunately, this was a VERY costly mistake. After tying to explain our experience with Viking we were offered a pathetic $500 voucher. It is obvious that Viking does NOT care about customer retention and apparently has the financial backing to STEAL from people who trusted in their brand. What I have summarized here doesn’t mention everything but highlights hopefully enough for folks to be educated prior to spending tens of thousands of dollars on an empty promise of EXPLORING THE WORLD IN COMFORT…Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes too!!! Really wanted to see that part of Germany/Hungary. Enjoyed the ship and cruise however due to the Danube being low we had to change ships 3 times. We were told ahead of time the Danube would be low and we'd have t change ships in ONE time. Viking was very efficient about getting our luggage and moving it to the next port. They certainly had a plan in mind for this type of problem. Unpacking a d packing 3 times was a bit much. The reason my husband and I like to cruise is so we can relax when we get to the next city. We were alway thinking now we have to pack again..or live out of our luggage. If we had it to do over again, I would have postponed the cruise till the river was adequate to cruise without changing ships. Missed a few sights we really wanted to see due to having to be bussed to the next ship. That was very disappointing. Sorry I couldn't have given the cruise part a better grade. Staff was excellent. We had a terrific Experience on our Viking Grand European River Cruise, so we decidied on the Western Med Ocean Cruise to experience that area for the first time. We had wonderful experiences onboard and on our tours. We had terrific local guides who spoke suspect English and would be able to go back to the villages each afternoon for more. Our tour director, Drew, was talented, professional and personable. He even performed in the ensembles in the evening shows. The restaurants offered a choice of fine dining and convenient quality food in the World Cafe. It’s always nice that Viking have the beer and wine included with your meals. The entire staff were friendly and professional, and always striving to please. The best part of the Ocean Cruise is having the great access to your daily destinations without having to pack and unpack your luggage’s. The itenarary that Viking set on this trip was fabulous, allowing for maximizing our interest in the beautiful Med. villages and iconic Renaissance City’s we toured. Highly recommend that one does an extension in Rome as we did, and wish we would have started our trip early in Barcelona before we embarked. Read Less

Disappointed to not get into casino in Monte Carlo as needed ID and I had left mine onboard the ship. The food and service was incredible. The employees were the friendliest and most accommodating I have ever been with. Our cabin steward was the most efficient and took exceptional care of us and our cabin. The number of passengers was not large so there was minimal crowding getting off the ship and back on. Dining was fantastic with excellent food, presentation, and service. My wife and I booked cabin 5083 originally, a penthouse veranda, as she was worried about motion sickness. A few days before the cruise was to depart, Our travel agent said that Viking had upgraded us to cabin 8007, a jr. penthouse suite. After reading several reviews of the 8000 series cabins, all but one cruiser stated that they felt no or minimal motion on that deck. Apparently my wife is a little more susceptible to motion as we left Rome at 10pm to cruise to Livorno and my wife slept poorly. We spent two days in port and she was better, but as we left Livorno at 6pm for Monaco, the motion sickness became so bad she didn't sleep and we had to see the ship's doctor(an $85 fee) to get motion sickness pills. We missed the Monaco excursion, but Viking refunded the cost. We asked if we could move to a lower deck and since the ship was almost full, we took cabin 3031, a veranda stateroom. Viking stated that they would not refund the difference for what we paid for the original room and the lower grade room since it was a motion sickness issue. Between the pills and the lower cabin, we were able to finish the cruise in relative comfort. As many others have stated, the ship is beautiful, clean, and well maintained.Cabins were cleaned twice a day, no one asked us to but anything, and all staff members were friendly and courteous. Food was excellent and, plentiful, and varied. My only complaint with dining was that after my wife had a glass of coke with lunch or dinner, she was not offered a refill. The included shore excursions we took were rather dull and short; we took a few long optional excursions and enjoyed them. We enjoyed the Beatles and ABBA shows, but outside of those, there was not a lot of entertainment unless you like classical pieces or acoustic guitar solos. Singers in Torshaven, the night lounge, did a nice enough job though. I did spend a lot of time in the spa which is extremely well kept and is probably one of the best at sea. Read Less

Wanted to visit friends in Barcelona and coupled this trip with seeing them after the ship docked there. Good ports -of-call with interesting sights to see. The only issue was the weather, which we had hoped would not be a major factor. But is was. Lots of rain in this trip. The ship provided many great tours. The staff were attentive and friendly. The entertainment was super. Enjoyed the tours, which were both educational as well as interedting. One tour had an inexperienced guide who miscounted at the meeting place and left us behind. This made for a difficult time for us. We enjoyed meeting new people in the ship and touring the kitchen and Bridge were a real highlight. The food was exceptional and varied. The restaurants were terrific and the food was fantastic. We did not make it to the Italian restaurant as we did not know about it at first and then found it was booked solid. This speaks for itself. The ship was beautiful in every way. We enjoyed the seafood meal on the upper deck near the pool and went to several 4 o’clock teas. This was relaxing and fun. Thank you. Look forward to the next cruise! Read Less

I chose this cruise because we love Viking and the value was second to none for the ports visited. It was fantastic and can’t wait to do another one. Embarkation was smooth and the state rooms are spacious and comfortable and well thought out. Lots of storage and amenities. Comfortable beds and the stewards are friendly and thorough. Dining was fresh and good with lots of variety. Always something new to try and plenty of places to eat. The ship itself is like a 5 star hotel with great staff and amenities. Lots of places to just hang out and have a drink. The entertainment was fun and well planned. Always something to see or do. The ports and excursions were smooth and first rate. Lots of choices and ample time at each port. The guides were knowledgeable and interesting. The best cruise line out there in my opinion. We will be taking many more Read Less

There were many factors on why we chose this cruise. Two of the main factors were that this was a fantastic itinerary that visited the Holy Land and secondly, this was an adult cruise ship that did not have a casino. Many of our expectations were surpassed. The crew were just fantastic! From the moment we boarded, we could tell that the crew just loved working for Viking. This positive attitude permeated throughout the entire ship. Special mention goes out to Vikesh from Manfredi's. He was very accommodating to all our requests. Even though we sometimes wanted dishes from different restaurants, Vikesh would go out of his way to make it happen. Towards the end of the cruise, my wife mentioned to Vikesh that although the food on the cruise was fantastic, she just felt like having some basic Indian curry. We didn't expect it but he came back 5 minutes later and told us that he had spoken to the chef and all had been arranged. The curry would be served for dinner in our suite at 8pm that evening. Vikesh did not just arrange it, he personally delivered it to our suite. Just outside our suite was the Explorers Lounge. We spent every evening there chatting with the bar staff. We especially enjoyed the company of Eriona, Cecy and Stoyam. They were just so witty and a really pleasure to be around. On one of the evenings on the cruise, the waters were rather rough and we were feeling a little seasick. Erin concocted her special anti seasick drink which really did make us feel a lot better. Yovitza and Matthew always made sure that our wine fridge was well stocked up with our favourite wines. Having said that, I must say that the entertainment was lacking. Especially the four young singers that really couldn't sing. They were screeching and were very off key. Thankfully our Cruise Director Heather sang so beautifully. Additionally, the sound system in the theatre wasn't great either. It lacked power and clarity and didn't do justice to Heather's immense talent. It would probably benefit from a tuneup from a really good sound engineer. We liked that there were always port talks that were given by highly qualified speakers. Shore excursions were also very well organised and guides were very professional. Buses were comfortable and were never filled to the brim. In fact, most of the time, the buses were only about half-full, which made it very comfortable. It also meant that the guides had quality time with us and that we never had to wait too long for anyone. Overall, it was a very positive experience. The only thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star rating was the rather poor entertainment. Read Less

Our first Viking Cruise, and what was the most memorable to us was the fact that there was no casino, no inch of gold, no constant announcements about tacky sales. What it did have was resident historians who provided lectures as well as informal opportunities to ask additional questions about the ports and their cultural and historical histories. I might also mention that our Cruise Director was a former Metropolitan Opera Mezzo Soprano who delighted us with several inspiring performances. If I had a single criticism, it would be that while we visited all the proclaimed ports, what was not known at the time of sign up, was the distance from the cities that they mentioned from our port dock. Paris was one of our featured 'stops.'....Paris was a 3.5 hour bus ride from the port each way for a couple of exploration hours. Also at odds with other cruise experiences was that you, upon payment, had to manage in advance the tours you desired. By the time we figured this out, the ones we wanted were already booked to capacity. We had a Jr. Penthouse Suite and the room and amenities did not disappoint. The dining experiences were always memorable, and the Chef offered cooking classes that I enjoyed very much. Embarkation was smooth and uneventful...the way it should always be. The Public Rooms were tasteful and the ship had a 'quiet' appeal that brought serenity to the sea. The spa experience with an actual 'snow' room was refreshing and should not be missed by any traveler. I would highly recommend Viking as a cruise experience provider. Read Less

We were interested in the ports in the itinerary (several in Noreay, Denmark, Germany, Poland, St. Petersburg Russia, Estonia, and Sweden) and we had gotten a great recommendation from friends on the quality of the Viking Ocean cruises. We particularly enjoyed the several stops in Norway. Other highlights: Helsinki was lovely. We visited the Stutthof Concentration Camp near Gdańsk, Poland. St. Petersburg was absolutely amazing. Excursions were well run, and the local guides were terrific. We enjoyed dining options aboard the ship, none with an extra cost. There is 24 hour room service available, also at no charge. Free internet worked well throughout the ship. Viking also provides free internet to the crew, unlike other cruise lines, which allows them to stay in touch with family during time away from home. The crew were all terrific, and provided a high level of service. Common areas were expansive and never crowded. We enjoyed our trip so much that we have booked another Viking cruise for next year. We choose this cruise for the itinerary. We wanted as many ports around the British Isles as possible in early August. The Viking Sky was just about our only option, and overall, we were very pleased with it. The destinations were well selected. Just a few months before the cruise was set to depart, we were informed that Liverpool was removed from the itinerary and Glasgow was added. For us, that was no big deal as we were looking for as many stops in Scotland as possible. However, this was an issue for many passengers. The food is a high point of the experience. All the restaurants, in fact all of the food, is included in the cruise fare. The standard restaurant, simply called The Restaurant, features several wonderful items every night (found on the left side of the menu), plus an exceptional rotating menu with destination fare on the left side. Every meal we had was excellent. Our other diners were at Manfredi's, the Italian restaurant. It too was exceptional, and we dined there twice. Typically our lunches were in port, but each morning we had breakfast at the World Cafe, which is served buffet style. It to was very good. Service on the ship is impeccable. Many members of the staff got to know us by name. The wait staff learned our preferred drink selections very quickly. The room staff also was very friendly and prompt. The cabin was not huge, but it was very nice for a cruise ship. We had a deluxe veranda stateroom. This was ideal for views of the coast of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and Norway. There was an ample amount of USB ports and outlets. The room also had a mini refrigerator. The bathroom had a shower stall, but no bath. It also had a heated floor, which was wonderful in the mornings. There was some sort of show each evening, and the entertainment staff was excellent. The club, Torshavn, features the Viking Band, and they go out of their way to meet and get to know the guests. They take requests and do their best to learn new music. Also, the Atrium, Explorer's Lounge, and sometimes the pool feature a rotating set of piano players, guitar players, and a string and flute trio. There is always entertainment to be found. Although there was an included excursion at each port, we typically booked one of the for-fee excursions. Nearly all of them were first rate. We varied our experiences with tours of castles, winery visits, a distillery visit, a walking food tour of Belfast, and scenic tours of the Yesnby cliffs and Mousa island. We had more than enough to do. A word of warning though, this ship and cruise line really does cater to an older crowd. Most of the passengers were of the retirement community. My wife and I were among the ten youngest passengers on the ship (we still have children in elementary school and high school). The entertainment is largely geared to this group. We weren't ever bored, and we weren't looking for a casino, but something like a sports bar would have been a welcome addition to the ship. Although we met many wonderful people on the ship, we also were met with a fair amount of puzzled expressions from some passengers and were outright questioned why we were on this particular cruise. Some final thoughts: 1. The spa seems nice, and my wife enjoyed their services. 2. The fitness area is above adequate, but not large. 3. There is a nice walking track around deck 2. 4. The North Sea gets choppy, so the night you sail to Bergen might get rough. 5. If you are planning on drinking more than just one or two alcoholic beverages a night, and want more variety than is offered at dinner, get the Silver Spirits Package. It will pay for itself really quickly. 6. The WiFi was free, but we often found it unreliable. Read Less

Firat time on Viking, and we loved it. Booked 2 more cruises while on board. Love the decor, American cities and personal service on this smaller ship. Sure, more expensive, but worth it. The absence of young children, casino, photographers and art auctions were major advantages for us. Tons of beautifully appointed lounge areas for us to hang out and talk or read. Explorers Loung at front of ship was terrific. Spent almost every evening up there, enjoying the panaromic vistas while sipping on adult beverages. Service throughout the cruise was outstanding. Seemed like everyone knew are name after a day or two, and knew are preferences without prompting. Lots of hugs on the last evening. In summary, this is not about partying, shopping, or gambling. This is for mature folks that want to learn about our wonderful world and see it all first hand in ridiculous comfort. Thank you, Viking! Read Less

I have traveled with Viking before so I knew their standards were high. The ship is amazing and so Beautiful. Everything is 1st class. They have High Tea everyday on the ship. The scones were delectable. On of the shows was the "Beatles" . It was held by the pool and the party got started. The customers were up and dancing all over. The Purser had a wonderful voice too. The entertainment needs a little tune up though. We loved all the detail that is paid to the ambiance. The only thing that was a bummer was that when we tried to book the excursions we wanted to , we couldn't because we were only Veranda rooms, not suite rooms. We still loved every minute though. One of the excursions was Mardelfossen Falls and they were in crdible. I was amazed at their crooked roads. The town definitely depends on all the tourism. The Orkney Islands were some of my favorite views . Tromso was very interesting too. It is the northern most north you can get . Read Less

We chose the the Viking Sky because it is a smaller ship with 940 passengers. We had gone on five Viking River Cruises and always had a good experience. Their cruise ship was no exception ... our 15 days were pure heaven..: We appreciated the relaxed atmosphere, good food, outstanding nightly entertainment, educational tours and much more! The staff were so happy to please and take care of our every need. Our cabin was very comfortable, and simply decorated. We especially liked the luxurious bathroom with the heated floor. The entertainment was outstanding and we loved the English tenor, Lee Bradley, that was brought in to perform for two concerts. The food was outstanding and we particularly enjoyed the fresh fish cooked on deck. The speciality restaurants were fine but we preferred the World Cafe for a more relaxed dining experience and preferred the open seating experience. We can’t wait to go on another Viking Cruise!
