I’ve been on the ship (Viking Sky) before and it is very nice so we decided on scheduling another cruise with Viking. I was looking for a birthday cruise. Viking provides great service and even a bottle of sparkling wine (Sekt) and a cake on your birthday. Plus all the great restaurants, shipboard amenities, very nice spacious cabins, and comfort while you cruise. Really enjoyed the aquivet terrace for lunch al fresco. Excursions were well planned and very enjoyable. The transfers to the hotel and ship were smooth and the transfer from hotel to ship even included a free tour of Barcelona. We have already explored much of Barcelona on the extension before the cruise and enjoyed tapas and watching the Spanish (Catalans) celebrate the end of the holiday season on Three Kings Day when they actually celebrate and give. Gifts so our Barcelona tour on the morning of January 6 was very quiet. The cabin is very nice. Every cabin has a veranda and ours was a penthouse veranda on a middle deck. The bathroom is very functional and roomy for a ship. Good toiletries and high quality towels plus lots of storage for your kit. The heated floors in the bathroom are very nice especially on a cold morning. The cabin has lots of storage for clothes and everything that you might bring aboard. There is even a mini refrigerator with complementary drinks. Plus binoculars to use on the veranda, a hair dryer, and robes to wear to the spa. We used the outdoor hot tub, very nice. On previous trips we have used the indoor spa with hot tub, pool and snow grotto - a lot of fun. This trip we finally used the exercise room, which is included free, and has good quality machines. All of the restaurants are nice. We had lunch in the World Cafe and it has great variety of food and also had sit down multi course lunch one sea day in the Restaurant. Dinner was in The Restaurant most nights with local specialties or European food. The nights we ate in the upgraded restaurant - Manfredi’s was excellent - great Italian food and especially the steak Florentine. The Chef’s Table is also nice with food and wine pairings although frankly we don’t like it as much as the other restaurants. Breakfast is great with lots of choices at the World Cafe and one day we tried the Norse food at Mamsem’s although really just had a waffle. The ports on this trip are nice but not as special as other trips. Barcelona and Malaga were the best. Cartagena almost as nice. Vigo was interesting and we did the optional tour to Bayona. Portsmouth was a good port especially cruising right by the old town as we left the harbor. Read Less

We like Viking. It was going to the Azores which we had wanted to see and had never been to during any of our travels. We have sailed on Viking Ocean 4 times now. This was a cruise that did not live up to our expectations. The cruise director was very talented herself but pretty much dominated the cruise and did not let the other entertainers perform to the best of their abilities. The food which is usually excellent was still good but the service in the restaurants was unusually slow. Disembarkation was truly a disaster. Handled by the shore excursion manager it could not have been worse. This is the second time we have had this manager for shore excursions on Viking. Unfortunately he is not the best and often unorganized or ill prepared. In addition he is not accessible and does not speak English very well which makes him hard to understand. The ship is excellent and most of the staff would do anything for you. Since this cruise had 8 scheduled sea days there should have been more activities. We would be unlikely to take such a cruise again however we most likely will travel again on Viking. Read Less

Our past experiences with Viking have all been positive. We decided to enjoy our vacation with Viking...The staff was friendly and approachable at all times..The food is excellent, with a great variety of offerings... Unfortunately due to rough seas, we were not able to enjoy the pool and hot tub areas....the anticipated yoga and Pilates classes were a disappointment...they were not up to a standard that I have enjoyed here at home. Not worth the additional charge in order to participate. The speakers were interesting and we enjoyed Dr. Fuller and his offerings about the Vikings and their history. Our tour and lunch in the Azores was cancelled to our disappointment...we had been looking forward to learning about the agriculture and farming activities of the island. The substitute offering, which we chose, was just average and although it included lunch, we found that to be mediocre. We have eaten several meals in Portugal when on previous trips and enjoyed the local food immensely...The offering on this Azores tour was not representative of the excellent food that is available. All in all, we had a wonderful crossing and would do it again! PS. the disembarkation in Miami was not well done...probably due to the US customs people not there on time...but hoards of guests, with their travel gear, waiting in the hallways was not a good experience. We finally went up to Deck 7 just to get out of the crush. Since we had to vacate our rooms, they were not available, but you couldn't even get off the elevators at Decks 1 or 2, because of the crowded corridors of people waiting to disembark. Read Less

The ship was excellent, looked brand new. Food was ideal and plenty of it, too much, my diet took a severe hit. The crew was very friendly and available for any request at any time. Responses from Guest Services were timely and complete. I really liked the fitness center, the equipment was excellent and in excellent shape. The spa was a special pleasure and we really enjoyed using the spa pool. The ship has plenty of space for everyone, I never felt crowed or that there wasn't a really nice spot to sit and read or just zone out. The dining area is spacious and we never had to wait for a meal. The preparation and menu had many items that we enjoyed and I actually sampled some things I would usually never eat. It was interesting in that respect, it was well prepared and timely. All in all this was an excellent experience and one I would recommend to anyone. Read Less

Okay. I still think Viking Ocean cruises are the best. Our first Viking ship - the Sky - broke down & our cruise was truncated. BUT, overall, our recent Amsterdam to Barcelona cruise was above average: The ship is beautiful and, even though this was a full cruise, there’s still some places I haven’t made it to... Torshaven - I’m looking at you! I love that this is an adults-only cruise for the discriminating traveler. I also liked that the line has retained its dress code of casual elegance for dinner... surprising but good! Now for some negatives, to help Viking retain its reputation as The Best: Improve the excursions!! I found both the included and optional to be lacking. The size of groups, pacing, and especially the guides could have been better!! One thing that might help is to do like on our River Cruise. Have one enduring group for the “go-getters” and at least one for the “handicapped and ‘slow-getters’ like photographers.” On that same line, my husband and I did not feel we got the value of our $99 ea Andalusia excursion. A large part of it was tasting the regional food, yet putting a whole bus-load of guests around a long cafeteria table with no choice of foods except the lackluster offerings served by lackluster cafeteria-type employees was an insult!! And the food was not tasty, much less plentiful. Limited to one glass of sangria... Really? 2) Other things noted: the restaurant service ON THE SHIP seems to have slipped since 2015, as well. On our first cruise the staff not only knew us by name but remembered something of our preferences! More training needed in these days?? Oh! And another biggie ( re: lack of personalization): I started in, I think it was April, to try to make the staff aware of a special double-70th birthday reunion for my former college roommate & myself. I wrote several times, spoke to some people and even filled out forms for the exact words I wanted on the cake (to follow our celebratory dinner at Manfredi’s.) I, of course, agreed to pay a hefty charge for this service, yet it was never correct!!! To Viking’s credit I don’t believe we ever got charged for the cake (?), yet we got one we never ate brought to our cabin as a welcome gift... compliments of ourselves?! They also brought us a small non-personalized cake following the dinner - but only after a special request from my husband to our waiter. It was not how I wanted this special dinner for a friend of 50 years to be! I never even got a response, much less compliance, to what I had requested. And finally - about food service: the first room-service breakfast we ordered was not tasty at all and everything was cold. On our second try we specified clearly what we wanted (“hot”, “browned” etc) and it was only minimally better. This was a favorite part of our first (2015) Ocean cruise with Viking!! 3). A couple of suggestions that would make the staterooms even more comfortable: have not only top sheets, but also thin blankets available for those who can’t adjust to the comforters in duvets Provide small microwaves to just re-heat stuff (ie. coffee, croissants) Cut out the Cruise Directors’ unnecessary morning-chatter-announcements... or at least make them later. They annoy us late sleepers. They woke me up - yet I couldn’t really hear them! I suggest only NECESSARY announcements piped into the rooms (not what we can also read in the Dalies/weather etc.) Just beef up the Viking app a bit more with daily changes, etc. 4) And one last complaint: that Immigration check in our Portsmouth stop was inexcusable! We decided that that was the one excursion we would skip (in exchange for a luxurious morning in bed) because we didn’t want to get up early for the immigration check and had such a short time in port anyway. Imagine our dismay at being rooted out with no time to put on makeup or anything! And it is unreasonable if you are not going ashore at all. Why can’t you just check for the necessary sticker when people LEAVE THE SHIP - or, at least, warn people of this crazy requirement in the pre-cruise literature?! SO, it seems with all of the above, I must have hated this trip. NOT SO! It was actually great in sum total, and I will continue to recommend Viking Ocean cruises to everyone I know!! Read Less

Beautiful ship and excellent staff and the food was wonderful. Overall the premium excursions were excellent. I hope that the ‘included’ excursions improve to the quality that Viking River Cruises has provided for many years. Often these excursions were too short and we drove past sights but couldn’t go in to see and hear the history inside the buildings. On one day we did two different excursions which included a major cathedral. On the first one we drove through the parking lot and on the second one the bus parked and we walked around the cathedral and to the view point but never went inside. On the excursion to North Cape we didn’t even have a tour guide for the hour and a half drive (each way) that we could have received a lot of history of what we were passing and other details that make tours most interesting. The Viking experience covered everything! Our early morning flight to Barcelona arrived early and there was our welcoming Viking Red waiting for us at the baggage claim. Private car transfer to precruise Renaissance hotel and into our room by 9:00 a.m. Talked with the Viking rep about the area and got great local recommendations. Transfer to ship, panoramic bus trip allowed the Sky and the hotel time to prepare for the next round of guests. Embarkation process was relatively quick and we were onboard by lunchtime. Room access was timely and met our stateroom stewards for a overview. These guys, worked hard and were always willing to get us what we needed. Dining - really looked forward to the alternative dining. Loved the ability to check the menus using the Viking Voyager app and make adjustments and additional reservations. The Chef’s Table was wonderfully imaginative, but we are the adventurous types. Manifredi’s indeed served enormous portions, asparagus become my favorite side. The dining room was good, but we found the World Cafe served the same food and ended up there more than we expected. We didn’t have the Silver Spirits package but enjoyed the included wines, paying for an occasional cocktail. Activities-cooking demonstrations, bridge tour, galley tour, movies under the stars, live entertainment, port talks were all included. Additional charges for wine tasting, cooking class in the Kitchen Table, and spa treatments. The service was wonderful, the staff doesn’t seem to know the word ‘No’, except ‘no problem’. They seem genuinely happy working for Viking. Viking doesn’t nickel and dime their employees or their guests, the staff doesn’t have to pay for their uniforms, their WiFi, or their flight home. The ports weren’t congested, probably due to the April sailing. Only occasionally, did we share the port with othe cruise ships, including the RCCL’s newest behemoth. Boy, was I happy with the 930 passengers size! Probably the reason the Sky was moved to the prime docking location near the Columbus monument instead of terminal 3 in Barcelona. The shore excursions were staggered, but even so, that’s where the congestion happened as the gangway opened and the staffed filled the tours and headed the groups out to the waiting buses. Included Shore excursions generally included bus tours with stops. The value of these was greatly affected by the individual guide. Optional excursions were as described, read the description and listen to the port talk to set expectations. The MyVikingJourney reservation process was cumbersome at times, with Sold Out tours and late additions. Mixed or inaccurate responses from the 800 customer help line added to the confusion. But overall, apprehension was wasted effort, Viking knows their successful business model. (Tellus@vikingcruises.com was much better than the 800 number.) After just a few days, we were talking to the onboard cruise consultant to take advantage of promotions to book our next Viking adventure. Read Less

This was an excellent way to get a taste of 7 countries. The Viking cruise line gives you highlights of each stop, handouts and talks. They also share their Viking history throughout the cruise. The food was local and delicious. We dined at both specialty restaurants. The Chef's Table was very disappointing. Had we known what they were serving we probably would not have gone. The service was horrible. Everyone in our group wrote a bad review and we were invited back to try again. The food was OK but the service was much improved. We also ate at Manfredi's. The service was very good and the food was fabulous! I would eat there every night if I had a choice. The menu is huge and quite varied. We ordered small plates and sides so that we could try more items. They did not disappoint. The guides were knowledgeable, and in many cases, entertaining. It was a bit fast-paced but I guess that's the nature of this particular cruise. There was some repetition in Barcelona but we came early and had taken the tours then. We fell in love with Barcelona! I could live there and love it. The tours really needed to include free time at the end to walk around and shop a bit. The tour of Cartagena was mostly in the mountains, showing us the devastation caused by mining that started with the Romans. Granada, home of Picasso was lovely. Could have stayed longer. Porto was beautiful. The port wine is delicious. Falmouth is not really a tourist town but they are friendly. Portsmouth. We opted to see Stonehenge. It was awe-inspiring. I would love to go back. LeHarve. We opted for the Paris tour and were not disappointed. The guide was great and if I ever got the chance to return I would hire her as my guide. She gave us a grand tour upon arrival and made suggestions on how best to see Paris in the time we had. Our 4 hours was not wasted and it made us want to return to see more. The tour of the fishing village outside of Amsterdam needed work. We spent too much time walking back and forth. The guide did his best to accommodate people who truly should not have been on the tour. Bruges. We toured Gent, city of chocolate and beer! We had chocolate for lunch and were not disappointed. The city is full of history and pride. Bergen. I am glad we booked extra time in this beautiful city. The people are friendly. The food, although expensive, is fabulous. This is a vibrant country. the people never stop. Oslo. I cannot say much about Oslo because we didn't really get to see it due to changes beyond our control. We only had a brief bus tour and a very late dinner and had to fly out the next morning. I would consider going back to actually tour it right. Read Less

Lifetime travel goals, Barcelona, Montserrat, Sagrada Familia, Cartagena, Roman Theater, Granada, Alhambra, Rock of Gibraltar, Porto, Land’s End, St Ives, Salisbury Cathedral, Magna Carta,Stonehenge, Monet’s home & garden, all realized on this incredible journey! The shipboard experience was superb in all aspects, as anticipated. There were some rough seas off the coasts of Spain & Portugal, but we were not ill or uncomfortable; not true for many other guests & crew. Weather was quite good overall, at sea & in port. Tour guides were good, and for Montserrat, Grenada, Monet garden & Stonehenge, simply outstanding. Onboard dining was great & bars & restaurant drinks also. Entertainment was really fun, and entertainers were visible & approachable during the cruise. The cultural enrichment programs are Viking’s strongest point, and wonderful on this journey. Sail-away talks were great, and how special, to sit down for office hours with a high-level former British Ambassador? A fabulous experien, highly recommended. Read Less

This was our second Viking Ocean... fantastic! We love the ship, it is port-intensive,love the 2 days in port at the start and the end, the flowing wine at lunch and dinner, the heated bathroom floors, the wonderful staff, the mostly great food. We had a great cruise director and mostly good entertainment-- some even great! We didn't know that this was a repositioning cruise but we believe it was...to take the ship from the Mediterranean up to the Baltic. In 14 days there were 11 great cities with 1 exception- Porto Portugal which we were in just too short a time (6 hours). B ecause it was repositioning (we think) the price was very good. As for the food, we mostly chose the Restaurant which is the formal dining room, but not one of the 2 "specialty" dining options. We loved Manfredi's and were able to get a private room 2 nights as there were 10 in our group. We were not that fond of the Chef's Table so tried it once and did not go back. That menu is limited and "foam" is used in lots of the choices! Read Less

This was our first ocean cruise with Viking, although we've taken several river cruises. The Viking Sky was a beautiful ship in every way. The staff was exemplary, the food was wonderful, the excursions were terrific, and the ship itself was wonderful. Our cabin was like home away from home, with a comfortable bed, large bathroom, and two TVs. The veranda was large and welcoming, and we enjoyed being on the veranda when we had some downtime (although we kept busy!) The specialty restaurants, Manfredi's and Chef's Table, served delicious food, and the service in both was outstanding. The excursions we selected were excellent - as usual, the Viking guides were professional and knowledgeable. Although one guide was not as good as the others, overall we were extremely pleased. We enjoyed this cruise so much, we have signed up for another one (this one to the Mediterranean) next March in 2019!! Read Less

Viking has the reputation of providing one of the best values in Ocean Cruising and on a recommendation from a friend I took the plunge. My wife and I have cruised a number of times and usual use Celebrity and enjoyed our cruises with them. The one downside to the major cruise lines is that you get nickel and dimed to death. Alternative restaurants are are not included in the listed prices and you get assaulted by photographer who want to take your photograph. With Viking Cruises the alternative restaurants are no charge. There are no photographers. No seating assignments in the regular restaurants. No children under 18 years of age. Also, there is no charge for beer and wine at any lunch or dinner. They do offer a drink package with upgraded drinks if you choose the option. My wife and I found that we could do without the package and were quite satisfied with the standard offerings. The staff of Viking is their best asset and they provide service with a smile and we found that they would go out of their way to learn your likes and dislikes in providing service. Another additional benefit was the laundry machines located on each deck of the ship. They are free and save you a lot of money in cleaning fees. We did spend 8 days at sea and we wondered going into the cruise if we would have enough to do during sea days. It turned out that we did with the educational lectures provided by Viking. The Fitness rooms are a bit smaller than we're used to but very adequate. The entertainment is a scaled back due to the size of the ship and the entertainment venues. However, we enjoyed the entertainment on the smaller scale and it was offset by the lower number of passengers. The ports of call on the cruise were limited due to the Atlantic Crossing but we found them to be quite good and the shore excisions were well planned and organized. All and all I would recommend a Viking Ocean Cruise to anyone Read Less

Initially we were booked into stateroom 3005,the first night we were kept awake by a rattling coming from the verandah door.Being the first night we put it down to the new environment however it continued and after a second night of interrupted sleep we called customer services first thing.A carpenter arrived and tried to fix what is apparently a common problem.Five minutes after he left the rattle returned so I again contacted customer services and they agreed to move us to another stateroom,3077. When we arrived at the next stateroom I enquired if it was a quiet cabin and if anybody had stayed in the cabin previously. No it was quiet and had not been used we were assured by two people. We noticed a knocking noise behind the bed head but thought it was probably something from the adjoining cabin so we went for dinner. On our return the noise seemed to have increased,we tried to sleep but it was impossible. Our worst ever night at sea and we are used to rough seas. The following morning we contacted customer services again and were offered another move very quickly. No fun packing and repacking. So here comes the crunch. That evening we went to the Viking bar as usual for a pre dinner drink. As we were on the silver drinks package we had to give the barman our cabin number yet again.’Sorry I said we ve had to move again’.A couple sat near us said ‘ excuse me,did you say you’ve had to move twice? It wouldn’t be cabin 3077 would it?!!! We decided it would be fun and different to do a transatlantic crossing so we booked the Viking Sky after hearing many positive things about the Viking Ocean brand. I booked through my usual travel agent and still had pretty decent service when I called Viking directly with questions. Usually I've been told to "go through your agent". Booking advance restaurant reservations and shore excursions was quick and intuitive. Viking has one of the better customer websites. Our cruise sailed from San Juan to Barcelona. I chose to do my own air arrangements as I've never liked dealing with cruise line air departments. We arrived in San Juan the day before the cruise and stayed directly across from the pier. This made for an easy walk to the ship the next morning. Boarding was quick and trouble free. Our stateroom category was PV1 so that meant our room would be available at 1:00pm. We had a couple of hours to explore the ship, eat lunch, etc. My first impression was WOW. The ship was absolutely beautiful. There are so many public areas to gather, sit, relax or whatever. We had lunch and began to explore the ship. Just before 1 we learned our room was ready. Our luggage was already delivered so we quickly unpacked. Our room was slightly larger than the basic or deluxe veranda by about 70-80 sq/ft which in my opinion made all the difference in the world. For the first time in my cruising life we had more storage than we needed and actually had a couple of empty drawers. Pretty good because I'm a serial overpacker. The bathroom was also spacious with a nice sized shower. Instead of the usual sliding glass door for the veranda, there was a regular door and a separate picture window making the room seem even larger. The bed was extremely comfortable as well. We set sail to some pretty rough waters in Puerto Rico and in fact were unable to make our first port of St. Martin. This was a problem as people whose flights got in late went to St. Martin to meet the ship which never stopped there. Waters continued to be fairly rough but not uncomfortably so. My preference for less people on a ship ( Read Less

I was checking in to Vikings Website about my 2019 Alaska Cruise I have booked. While there I saw the "Last Minute Specials" and found a two week Trans Atlantic out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to Barcelona sale. At first I was concerned about spending 6 days in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and finding something to do. Needless to say those were the best part of my whole trip. I was able to relax and enjoy myself the entire trip. One thing I've learned in life is that not all goes perfect every time, especially when your dealing with Mother Nature. Right away from when the boat pulled out of San Juan, Mother Nature wanted to remind us she was there. Seas were very choppy and it prevented us from being able to stop at Saint Martin the next morning. It also prevented some guest and entertainers from being able to get on to the ship there. (There had been delayed getting to San Juan and were gong to connect there). Fortunately, the seas calmed and we had a great trip across the Atlantic. The dining arrangements were fantastic. Most people follow the "business casual" dress request for dinner but you always have a few that figure those rules aren't for them. We ended up eating most of lunch and dinner meals in "The Restaurant" which is the main dining room. The foods were always outstanding and the staff was great. I recommend that if you like a particular waiter, that you request sitting in his/her area at each meal. It took a day or two to learn this but once you catch on it makes things a lot easier as he/she learns all your little secrets and requests. My only suggestion is that you make sure you give that waiter an extra tip and the end of your trip for helping to make it so special. The $15 per day that Viking charges your account is a mere pittance for all of the staff that you see helping making your trip special on this boat. The specialty restaurants are Manfredi's Italian which was very good. They have a fixed menu that will be the same every day except for the "Fish of the Day" and the "Pasta of the Day". I only ate there two nights and loved both meals Rib Eye Steak and Porchetta. Both meals were outstanding and can't wait to have them again on my next cruise. The "Chef's Table" I had booked for the first night of the cruise. My wife wasn't feeling well because of the water turbulence and I wasn't even more disappointed because I found out about their menu's changing every two days. I picked nordic night that meant just about everything had Salmon in it and that's not one of my favorites. The big thing about the "Chef's Table" is you don't select what your going to eat. It is all ready predetermined for you along with wines with each course. There were no real problems getting reservations here but after reviewing the different menu's we elected to spend most of meals in "The Restaurant" as the food quality and service are just as good. The entertainment was great with the Cruise Director Aaron doing a wonderful job. He also did a great show by himself with songs from Sinatra, Buble, etc. Viking had the Virginia Gentlemen, an A Cappella group on board for daily entertainment as well. These college students won the heats of almost every passenger and hopefully will become on regular on the Viking system. The Viking Band, dancers, entertainers all made the night end with an enjoyable show. We enjoyed out trip so much we booked a second trip for 2019 traveling from Rome to Athens next year. Because all Viking ocean ships are the same, once you get the lay of the land, it doesn't change going from boat to boat. This will make our Alaska and Rome trips even easier next year. We wanted to do a transatlantic crossing. We liked that there was a minimum age...no youngsters running around and playing in elevators! We liked the idea of free beer & wine at lunch and dinner...we did not need the drink package! And having the laundry facilities was a plus. Here are some of my thoughts...and I know I'm missing some tips... The cruise was a pleasure. I liked that it was very informal...literally no "formal" nights, but you still had to dress appropriately for the "dining rooms"; you had the World Cafe buffet and the Poolside Grille if you did not want to get dressed. Seasick? I was worried about rough seas, but I did not feel sick at all. I got the "patches" from my pharmacy, but never used them. I used "Meclizine" ("Bonine"), taking one at night before bed. It was just enough to keep me feeling well and not making me sleepy. Check with your pharmacy and see if you can order a bottle of Meclizine instead of spending $$$ on the blister packs of Bonine. Years ago I got a bottle of 100 for $7. We upgraded to a Penthouse Verandah. Our mini bar had "liquor", but they took it out and gave us wine...red or white...daily...or as our bottle was gone. The Restaurant - Good variety of food..and tasty, too! They had a standard menu that did not change and an additional menu that changed daily. We ate one lunch and several dinners here. Poolside Grille - We ate here quite often. It opened before the other restaurants and you did not have to dress up. They have burgers and hot dog and the best onion rings...they do not list them on the menu..you have to ask for them...don't miss them! The Chef's Table - Speciality dining. My recommendation...know what the theme is for the night you choose for dining here. We enjoyed the "Chiang" night, but the Indes was not a favorite. If you do not get an option for booking before the cruise, you can sign up by the entrance of the World Cafe for other nights. Manfredi's - We enjoyed this Italian restaurant. Try their speciality steak...it is "to die for"! I enjoyed everything we ate here. Entertainment - They do not have big name stars, but the entertainment crew was good for us. They had "Enrico", the Hungarian guitarist, Olga & Geza (pianists), and a trio of ladies playing classical tunes with their cello, violin & flute. The University of Virginia's "Virginia Gentlemen" were on our cruise. They are the school's male a cappella group. They sang almost every day in the atrium and did a special show in the theater. Laundry - Take advantage of the laundry facilities on each floor and pack a lighter suitcase! They have (3) washers & dryers and the soap is included...free! They also have ironing boards and irons. NOTE: Check your washer carefully when it is done. I had a blouse that was stuck to the top of the machine. Had I not stuck my head inside, my blouse would have found it's way to either lost & found or someone else's suitcase! Gym - They had plenty of treadmills and other machines, free weights and other "torture devices". We usually walked on Deck 2...4 laps for a mile. But on cold or rocky days, we used the treadmills. We did not try any of the pools or spa...maybe next time. Flights - We wanted to fly to San Juan the day ahead, but Viking air services would not allow that option. Lucky for us, all flights were on time and our luggage made the ship. Not so lucky for some of our shipmates from Miami...their luggage never made it to the ship...at all! It was going to be in St. Maarten, but the seas were too gusty and we had to skip that port...and had to leave behind folk who had flight delays and were going to join the ship at that port. Next time, I will be adamant that we get to the port a day early! We spoke with lots of folk who booked the cruise in the last 30 or so days; we booked our March 2018 cruise in August 2017. Those late cruisers got good room deals and some had free airfare. One also bartered with the booker and got the premium drink package for free! We will try that tactic next time! Our Penthouse Veranda was great...and so were our room attendants, "Darius" and "Vive". We had plenty of hanging and drawer storage space. The bathroom and bedroom area had lots of space, too. Shore Excursions - We were disappointed with the bus ride in Funchal (Madeira) Portugal. We hoped to see more of the vicinity, but it was mostly driving to the point of interest...which was overcast and rainy. Still, we had some time to wander in the city before catching a shuttle back to the ship. Check out your ports and see what is available before you take the cruise. There are options for things to see that are not covered in some of the literature and talks you get. We look forward to saving our $$$ and finding our next Viking Ocean Cruise. We travel at least 3 months/year now. Our favorite trips usually involve a repositioning cruise, followed by a lengthily land stay. We loved our time at sea, never wish it would end. This was our first trip on Viking Ocean, and what a delight! I can tell you all the good things we enjoyed on this beautiful ship, but I also want to tell you all the things we were thrilled to be without, like the miserable art auctions that take over the public spaces on other lines. No casino, no kids, and basically, no smoking too. Glorious! Beautiful music in the atrium throughout the day, wonderful guest lectures, movies and snacks at night and an utterly beautifully appointed ship. Superb service, varied and well prepared meals served with some very tasty wines. Internet was included in the fare, as were taxes and port charges. The internet was surprisingly good considering we were on the stormy Atlantic. The crew was extra special, as was the Captain. Leadership was apparent, and the entire experience with Viking was exceptional! It will be hard to ever go back to the other carriers, we really liked what we experienced on this journey. Hoping to sail with them on another repositioning trip this Spring, 2019. Read Less

Our Departure was in Puerto Rico, we arrived early in the morning on the same day. Everything went as smooth as can be checking onto the cruise ship. We went up to our cabin and were so taken back at how beautiful the set up was especially the balcony. The cabin stewards were pleasant and made sure our stay was enjoyable. The service on board the ship was awesome. The crew always greeted you with a smile or a gesture. The dining was absolutely delicious, food, service, variety, cleanliness...just perfect! The ports were enjoyable. My husband and I did a couple of excursions and were extremely happy with the tour guides. The entertainment was AWESOME, what a talented group of professionals. The shows were so enjoyable, great idea having the split of the men and women doing their own shows as well as together. I just want to draw attention to one of the entertainment crew Elora Von Rosch, she has such style, grace and can sing anything. We saw her in the shows in the theater, outside on the pool deck, the lounge, and in the atrium. She is such powerhouse! This Viking Ocean Cruise Ship was on my bucket list and were so glad we decided to go, crossing the Atlantic Ocean and not even releasing you were on the ship for 6 days straight was enjoyable because we went about the ship and enjoyed everything they had to offer. The Room service was excellent and delivered our food in a timely fashion. Would I do it again, YES!I Before we disembarked I booked a River Cruise for next year. It cannot come soon enough! My husband did the choosing. I was really against 6 days at sea. I mean what can you do doing nothing for 6 long sea days? Anyway, San Juan was wonderful. Our hotel was directly across from the Dock where Sky was berthed. I will admit she was a beautiful site that morning from our hotel balcony. Boarding was a snap. Have crused 25+ times and this really was the easiest. We were greeted once onboard by the crew. In fact one of hem noted our look and asked us if we'd like a tour of the ship. WOW. I can go on and on, the singers were as good or better than any other ships entertainment. Ok, no glitz,,, however the singing was solid. Elvis was cool! The Beatles were totally entertaining. The crew is as good as it gets. One time we had an emergency. The crew , including the Dr ran to the scene. It was a minor item however they were totally on it.I heard later the DR stated with the patent all night in sick bay to make sure the person was ok. This ship is the opposite of the RCL Oasis class ones. As we were on the Oasis 7 days prior with our grandchildren I can tell you they are opposite. Yes we like them both. For very different reasons. The SKY is not a family fun ship. They do not play in that field. What I can say is they are the way my husband and I wish to travel the seas when we are not with the young family members. Our friends came with us.They to agree the SKY is the way to go. Ok, Food is solid. Loved the Buffett. Note: The sea conditions were a bit interesting. Between 3 and 10 meter swells all week. Anyway we Loved it all. Probably why we have 62 additional Viking Ocean days already booked. Team Viking, they are some of the best crew we have ever had the pleasure to cross paths with. Yes, i can name one or two on each cruise we have been on as being wonderful. The team on SKY are all that way. I cannot remember a bad experience. After 7 days at sea (missed St Martin due to heavy seas), you get to know people. . They are the reason why we booked more. Hats off to those who traveled so far to serve my husband and I up a WOW trip. Oh, remember my not wanting 6 days at sea? Well, we wanted a few more when we made it to Barcelona. It was a sad day leaving the SKY. If your wondering, do it. Read Less

Where to begin? We chose to use the Viking air option. They used United which turned out to be very nice. The flight home from Barcelona was the best trans-Atlantic flight we ever experienced, movies, food, and wine, who could ask for more? About the cruise, I have always wanted to cross the Atlantic Ocean by ship. To rise each day to look out on the ocean was just the beginning. We have sailed with many cruise lines, over 7, and were astonished by the amenities, the food, both variety and preparation and tastes, the accommodations, service and especially the crew. The crew greeted us daily by name and always seemed to look for a different way to serve. The ship was always clean, as were the staterooms. The extra amenities, wine or beer with meals, use of the spa facilities, every stateroom is at least a balcony stateroom, complementary use of the specialty restaurants, and complimentary excursions in each port of call. I'll mention the spa as an example of the over the top ship. Not only is there a steam room, but when was the last time you relaxed in a room with ice and snow? Or you can torture yourself dumping a bucket of ice water on yourself after the steam room. The mineral pool was very relaxing as well. Or you could use the facilities in the men's and women's locker rooms. That is only the beginning. The rest you will have to discover for yourself. Looking forward to our next Viking Ocean Cruise ! My traveling companion and I picked this cruise first of all because it was a Viking Ship and second because of the itinerary. Outstanding because: 1. Heated floor in bathroom. Ship was kept in spotless condition at all times. 2. Excellent Service. Loved the staff to guests ratio. 3. Fantastic for the delicious food and the additional restaurants at no add'l cost. 4. Loved hearing the chirping birds in the public restrooms. 5. The choice of public spaces where you could enjoy being with others or being by yourself. 6. The bed linens were wonderful with excellent service by the room steward. 7. The inter-active tvs in the public spaces where you can get news, menus, etc. 8. Relaxing and beautiful decor. The gym was sufficient to handle the # of guests. 9. Refrigerator in room with soft drinks, candy and free bottles of water. 10. Informative shore lectures along with entertaining shore excursions all included. 11. On shore excursions, the "Viking" packet of handy wipes to keep germs from spreading. 12. Everything is included in one price - no add-ons (we did upgrade wine pkg which was very reasonable). I have sailed on many cruise lines and have now committed to only sailing on Viking!! Once you sail on Viking Ocean, you will not cruise on any other. No ship can beat Viking. Read Less

We booked this cruise due to the itinerary ... which was totally changed prior to the start of the cruise. We missed the stop in Key West due to weather. no big deal since we have been there in the past, but a cruise that was booked to make 4 stops that only made one ... big disappointment! After 3 days they ship ran out of Chardonnay, 4 days ended all the Pinot Griseous, and on day 5 ... the Slovenian Blanc was depleted! on day 5 they also ran out of Makers Mark Bourbon ... the only liquor we drink. We bought a silver package ... and it did us little good. Great staff ... but it took forever to get the complimentary first glass of wine at lunch and dinner. I know this is a new ship ... and the bumps need to be worked out ... but there were obvious misses that a ship of this quality should not have missed. Read Less
