We chose this cruise because we love cruising. We find this way of travelling very relaxing and at the same time interesting. You can visit many cities and have a general idea of all the places the ship stop. The ship has all you need to have a fantastic vacation time. We never have to wait for a table to eat. The restaurants, all of them are amazing. The chef Ivan, from Chile took really good care of us. He showed as the kitchen and we were surprised how everything was being prepare for each meal in all of the restaurants. The cabin was very comfortable, as well as the bed and pillows, but the best part in the cabin was the bathroom. Really big for a ship bath with warm floor. They have service twice a day to keep the cabin always tidy and clean. We love the entertainment, the 4 young vocalists were exceptional, same as the pianists and the 2 girls who played stringed instruments. We only were sad because the ship couldn't stop in Poland port due to weather conditions. The excursions were very interesting same as the guides, specially Helen in Saint Petersburg. We did some included excursions and some prepaid ones. We already booked a future trip to Egypt in a Viking river for 2021. We recommend the pre and post cruise extensions, both great options, we enjoyed them a lot. We value very much; the quality of service Viking has. Although we did many other cruises with other companies, this last one was overall the best ever. Thanks Viking crew and everyone on the ship for a great experience and a phenomenal vacation. We wanted to start with an ocean cruise that brought us to countries we had not been too before. Norway was amazing and the stops we made along the start of this trip were truly memorable. We did do some of the "optional" tours along the way and some of the "included" tours were also quite good! The restaurant experiences (food, seating, service, etc) were quite an experience, as everyone seemed to want two help and be a part of our experience! The Fitness Center was perfect, never too crowded and my wife's facial and both our massages were among the best ever! Our room was very comfortable and the staff (Clark and Ameline) were great as far as extra water, coffee, etc. Enjoyed the Explorers Lounge as it was close to our room and got us out and relaxing a bit! There was only one thing that I would not do again...the Malmouse Castle was boring (Baron ?) and we unfortunately had a couple from New York, who seemed to know more than the "Baron" and constantly interrupted his long-winded description of the "castle". The soup was not that great and the organic beer was less than enjoyable! Now, overall, this experience did nothing to dampen the great time we had as we enjoyed everything else on our trip and have booked the Ageatic Cruise for next year and have no qualms about going and enjoying! Thank you! Read Less

I would like to comment on the excellent experience we had with my wife at Viking Sky. Before leaving, we had apprehensions regarding entertainment on board and the age of the passengers. We are not young (58 and 46 years old) but we knew that the average age was higher. The truth is that although the average age is higher, it was very nice for us to be on the boat without children or teenagers, without a casino, without photographers, without sellers of trinkets. the shows were of quality, the conferences very interesting, the first level gym, the extraordinary spa, the fantastic living rooms to read, the swimming pools with sun loungers available, the exceptional food both in the buffet and in the restaurant, always, and I insist, always with tables available for dinner, breakfast and dinners. This is our 15th cruise and we have used MCS, Costa, Royal, Azamara, Princess and Celebrity, and from all of the above we can say that Viking has been our best experience and best quality price ratio. We never have been on a sea cruise and had experienced a river cruise through Viking. Several things drew us to our decision to use Viking. The river cruise we took in the Danube was incredible and we wanted to do a sea cruise. The size of the Viking cruise ships was a big factor, as we experience the size of our river cruise. Having a small number of passengers allowed us to meet several individuals and couples, which we experienced in our river cruise, became lasting friends. The amenities on the Viking Sky were top notch. The staff service was over the top and the food and food and more food just added to the pleasures of the cruise. My spouse wanted to check off on her bucket list the Northern Lights and seeing the agenda for this cruise was another factor in taking the trip. We decided to take the Explorer Suite and this was one of the best decisions of many on this trip. The comfort, the relaxation and cleanliness of the ship also made for a very enjoyable trip. We were able to see all we wanted off shore, including pictures we took of the Northern Lights and visit with friends who lived in one of the ports of call. We are planning our next Viking cruise and we are sure we will not be disappointed. Read Less

We wished to experience the high Arctic, and we love Norway from previous cruises. Northern Lights have long been on the desired list. Almost as an afterthought we signed on to the Churchill’s England pre-cruise tour, and it proved to be one of the best aspects. We saw the elusive northern lights twice, pretty but not spectacular, and the trip would have been almost as good without them. London in January isn’t for tourists seeking green lawns, sunny skies and shirtsleeve temperatures, but it wasn’t awful; mostly 40s F, rain off and on, and the most pleasant aspect was lack of summer vacation hordes. The hotel, Royal Horse Guards is perfectly fine, and in a superb Central London location. The guide, Don Brown, was with us the entire time, and of many fine Viking guides over several years and 5 cruises, he was absolutely the best! The tour sites; Churchill War Room, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Blenheim Palace, and Bletchley Park, could not have been more fascinating. Transfer to Tilbury to begin the cruise was effortless. The first couple of days in the North Sea were quite expectedly adventurous, and not for faint hearted or weak mid-sectioned amateur sailors. Lots of Vikings stayed in staterooms, and many who appeared were quite pale and subdued. Luckily, we haven’t ever become seasick. Between Stavanger and Bodo we entered the Norwegian Inside Passage and the rest of the cruise was like a quiet lake. The onboard experience was mostly up to Viking’s very high standard. Food was superb. Entertainment was better than average, particularly guest pianist/singer Tom Seals. Staff built snowmen on the rear deck; a fun photo-op! Some shore tours could have been better planned on this inaugural cruise. There was quite a lot of uncomfortable bus riding in the dark. Luckily we brought clothing suitable to the Arctic; had we not, some tours would have been miserable. Our best shore tours were a family visit near Tromsø although the tour description did not mention outdoor fun and thus we were notprepared clothing-wise. Sami reindeer camp near Alta -22F, the Ice Hotel near Alta, cathedral concerts in Bodo and Tromsø, and husky dogsled riding were also great. A 19th Century Island village near Bodo was also interesting and fun. The Alta museum offered spectacular views and interesting displays. We did get the feeling that with Viking’s recent rapid expansion, possibly some shortcuts are being taken, and that attention to service and plannning detail might have slipped a bit. Read Less

Picked the Cruise because of our many Viking River cruises and their fantastic service - and the itinerary that gets you to the Holy Land. Our first Viking Ocean was the Baltic in Summer of 2017 and Needless to say we were unimpressed with the service as we expected it to be equal to the River cruises - It is not - Many times had to get our own drinks, utensil etc - Food was spectacular, but restaurant serve slow at best and mediocre. It was exactly the same on this cruise 18 months later - So no improvement to speak of. More Comments - Room service for breakfast was punctual but quite often food was barely warm, but always a problem when so many to deliver in a small amount of time. Actually the fact that you could get room service though is a plus. As for their free wine/beer lat lunch/dinner has improved. Baltic one beer one wine - At least this time you had choice of beers - However having only a single wine at a meal - one white one red, if you did not like it you are paying then on for each glass. You should have all the wines available each night and let diners choose - OH and with the Crystal/Regent/Silver Seas/Seaborne providing most all drinks free and no mandatory tipping (30 per day per pax), certainly makes those four more attractive even in price. On Crystal, by the second visit to our favorite bar she remembered our drinks and on the third visit she was following us to a table with our drinks - You did have one male waiter do his best and eventually knew what we wanted but always had to ask first before bribing them. ON the PLUS PLUS side - Ship spectacular, crew very helpful, on/off as good as you can expect with 900 people, Staff taking care of rooms at the top of my list - Helpful and attentive. check in check out fantastic. Excursions - The freebies are just drive byes and a waste of time - We did were trying to fit two good ones in each day, but some were so long we could just not do it. The spa prices were ridiculous, more than the Crystal trip I went on and 3 times Holland America. The thermal pool reeked of chlorine so bad, (being chlorine sensitive) I could not even use the steam room, snow room, or thermal lounges. Huge disappointment. Will I go on another Viking Ocean, not sure. Right now they are a slight cut above Holland America but Holland is about 25% cheaper so their you have it - I have done 8 river cruises and will river cruise with Viking again. I feel like royalty on their River Cruises Next Ocean might be Seaborne or other top 4 or maybe go cheaper and hit Holland but book a suite and still be 1/2 of Vikings cheapest room. Read Less

My husband did the choosing. I was really against 6 days at sea. I mean what can you do doing nothing for 6 long sea days? Anyway, San Juan was wonderful. Our hotel was directly across from the Dock where Sky was berthed. I will admit she was a beautiful site that morning from our hotel balcony. Boarding was a snap. Have crused 25+ times and this really was the easiest. We were greeted once onboard by the crew. In fact one of hem noted our look and asked us if we'd like a tour of the ship. WOW. I can go on and on, the singers were as good or better than any other ships entertainment. Ok, no glitz,,, however the singing was solid. Elvis was cool! The Beatles were totally entertaining. The crew is as good as it gets. One time we had an emergency. The crew , including the Dr ran to the scene. It was a minor item however they were totally on it.I heard later the DR stated with the patent all night in sick bay to make sure the person was ok. This ship is the opposite of the RCL Oasis class ones. As we were on the Oasis 7 days prior with our grandchildren I can tell you they are opposite. Yes we like them both. For very different reasons. The SKY is not a family fun ship. They do not play in that field. What I can say is they are the way my husband and I wish to travel the seas when we are not with the young family members. Our friends came with us.They to agree the SKY is the way to go. Ok, Food is solid. Loved the Buffett. Note: The sea conditions were a bit interesting. Between 3 and 10 meter swells all week. Anyway we Loved it all. Probably why we have 62 additional Viking Ocean days already booked. Team Viking, they are some of the best crew we have ever had the pleasure to cross paths with. Yes, i can name one or two on each cruise we have been on as being wonderful. The team on SKY are all that way. I cannot remember a bad experience. After 7 days at sea (missed St Martin due to heavy seas), you get to know people. . They are the reason why we booked more. Hats off to those who traveled so far to serve my husband and I up a WOW trip. Oh, remember my not wanting 6 days at sea? Well, we wanted a few more when we made it to Barcelona. It was a sad day leaving the SKY. If your wondering, do it. Read Less

Having traveled with Viking river cruises and previous ocean cruise, we were looking forward to this one with great expectations. You did not let us down. This was one of the best vacations we had. The ship was clean and easy to maneuver, our cabin was just enough for two people (but hen, how much time do you spend in your cabin when there is so much more to do on the ship!). The food was just great. We tried the specialty restaurants (very good!), but there is nothing like getting the food you want when you want it, and go for seconds or thirds in the buffet. The service was outstanding (I don't drink, but my husband made up for that with all the dark beer he loves), The shore excursions were just fine. Long enough to get acquainted with the port, with the option of going back on your own for more. We took only one optional tour, and it was a great bargain. And what can I say about the spa? It was the best ever. Can't wait to revisit it again, as we have already booked another cruise for the fall. And after then--probably another!!! Read Less

We chose Viking for 2 reasons.. First to try the Viking experience and second its itinerary allow us to see Bermuda .. The cruise started with us sailing into a serious tropical depression. Most passenger were sick and confined to their state rooms for 2 days Later the question on passenger's minds was:.Why would the captain take this ship into a SERIOUS storm jeopardizing all the passengers safety and health .??? There was no way he could have made Bermuda in these type of seas on time. NOBODY SLEPT FIRST NIGHT, SEAS WERE THAT VIOLENT.. Next day I tried the gym amidst the thrashing around , I was on the elliptical when we saw this huge wave come barreling at us , It smashed through the picture window to the right of me and washed everyone in the gym around. A few people were cut with broken glass and one fellow received an electrical shock Doors automatically sealed us in the gym. .With was everyone there's worst nightmare, if more water came in. Upon rescue NO crew even ask how any of us were doing ..We had reports from passengers later the wave hits a high as the fifth floor striking their balcony doors and knocked balcony chairs around. . Nothing was transmitted by the captain. When the captain did make an announcement later of a course change due to a medical evacuation his voice was trembling, Not installing much confidence onto the passengers. Viking customer relation promise to contact us after the cruise but we have heard nothing. Embarkation: was great.... quick and efficient. Disembarkation: was ok but with big delays Ship: beautiful , many great touches. Cabin: excellent size and decor but major issues controlling the temperature. Dining: awesome food, variety.. and staff attention. Service: is there is such a thing as too much... eg: breakfast 13 times was the average table interruption. ( pick ups, change this that how is it etc ) Ports: good, the norm for a Caribbean cruise BUT passengers took this cruise out of NY to see Bermuda... which was canceled, nobody cruises out of NY to specifically see the Caribbean.. Entertainment: good but not enough variety..... Summary: After the events of the first 2 days the cruise was excellent. This was my 12 th cruise so this is not an novice speaking. Read Less

We chose this for our first ocean cruise experience. the ship accommodations were wonderful and the ship staff were very personal and a joy to interact with. the dining exceeded our expectations.the shore excursions were very fun and the guides were wonderful. the only hiccup was the disembarkation in New York City was an ordeal in getting to hotel in Times Square which is location in the city I will not stay at in future due to congestion and traffic. The entertainment was relatively basic and the staff were very pleasant and fun to be around. Our housekeeper was one of the nicest we ever experienced as well the dining room staff . We had a wonderful trip and the Viking ship and crew were beyond our expectations. my wife and I just like to be more active in our trips and felt we are still a little too active for the cruise experience as we like more active walking tours. Great Itinerary and only 1 day at sea. The food was spectacular and the service was amazing. We had a great time at the bars and the views from being in so close were awesome. The Dining in the specialty restaurants was so great along with the wine pairings. Good entertainment, should add a comedian. Torshaven was to quite at night could have used more entertainment. the food in the Aqua terrace got a little boring after 14 days but it is ok. We ate in specialty 8 times. The spa is amazing and wonderful and the massage was great. We have already book another cruise. On shore excursions they need to break it up to fast groups and slow groups or have slightly more active things to do for the younger 50 year olds. We would do more on our own but the included tours give you a good base line. I would pay for my own additional excursions next time. Read Less

We were looking for a Viking cruise to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday. This cruise hit several places where my daughter had worked as an archaeologist and so we picked it. From the minute we contacted Viking customer service, we were treated as pampered guests. Art Rivera was our cruise consultant and he made us feel like royalty. The ship itself was divine and I never felt so pampered in all my life. It seemed like before we even knew we needed or wanted something, it would appear. All the staff was helpful, cheerful, and accommodating. The entertainment was stellar & varied. There was no lack of things to do. If you wanted activity, you could have it. If you wanted peace, quiet, & solitude, you could have that too. My only suggestion would be to add another excursion option to each port. Having a recorded guide & map for more independent exploration of the port would be a nice change from buses. While the bus trips were well organized, entertaining, and enlightening, sometimes it's nice to spend more time on the ground in a port. From beginning to end, this was an amazing trip. Read Less
