We chose the cruise because of the variety of excellent ports of call. It was our first Viking cruise, and we were very impressed by the beauty of the ship, the attention to detail, the variety of food choices and restaurants, and caring staff. Every port was different, and every one worth visiting. We were impressed by the quality of excursions offered, whether included or extra. Each was led by a knowledgeable tour leader, and both informative and enjoyable. The lectures were all excellent, and the speakers knowledgeable about the varied subjects. We enjoyed The Explorer’s Lounge...a perfect place to relax before dinner or enjoy the sunset. Our room was comfortable and very well maintained by our excellent and caring cabin steward.. we never wanted for anything. We enjoyed the restaurants, the variety of food, and the ability to decide where and when we would have our meals. We chose to extend our vacation..both before and after the cruise. Both hotels we stayed in were very good, as were the Viking representatives in the hotel lobby. Well done, Viking! Read Less

My wife and I have cruised many times in the past. we usually cruise with some friends who decided that we all should cruise the Baltic for our annual cruise in 2019. They chose Viking Ocean cruises, due in no small part to the excellent reputation of which they had read and the fact that what could be better than to take a Scandinavian ship to cruise the Baltic. At the outset, we were shocked to find that the entire cruise needed to be paid at least one year before the cruise. That has never been our experience in sailing with multiple lines and future patrons need to be aware of this requirement. The ship is beautiful. The public rooms are wonderful especially the Explorer Lounge. Our cabin was quite roomy and the bathrooms excellent. special kudos for a lovely shower without having to step over a tub.I found the heated floors in the bathroom to be a nice touch. The spa area is spectacular and if going to a spa with virtually everything-hot tub, small therapy pool, sauna and ice room is your thing, this is your ship The company touts its multiple channels of communication available to those who are scheduled, but that is primarily limited to receiving one way announcements from them, done well, but not to any dialogue or getting personal support for questions which arise and may not be answered in their stock announcements.Poor communication seems to be common on these cruises. For example, special meals opportunities, lobster tail and steak, special buffets, at the grill were never announced well and one learned to look for these each day by dropping by the grill itself or asking of the crew in a restaurant or bar. The ships plan is good but when the special meals take place in the grill area there is inadequate seating for the number of cruisers wishing to partake in the meal. The seating in the cinema is wholly inadequate for the number of passengers. Quite a few performances occurred with many passengers standing in the back to observe the show. The back two side areas were totally inadequate both for seeing the show and hearing it.The need to get to the venue 30 minutes before shows began was difficult for those of us who tended to to eat dinner at about 7 to 7:30. I was quite disappointed to discover that we did not receive services comparable to what we had received ion either Oceania or Azamara in spite of the fact that the per night per person cost to sail with Viking was considerably more than either of the other two. My concern with the cabin service is that when I wished ice, I had to go to housekeeping, when I wished lime I had to go to room service and when I wished to change my complimentary liquor and the amount of tonic I needed to speak to the drink steward. This in my view is rather poor considering the price of the cruise and the plaudits from other cruisers. Viking offers one free shore excursion at each port. The walking tours we took, 4, were excellent, but those in a bus were not worth the time spent at all. I was quite disappointed in the meals in the Restaurant ,in the Chef's special restaurant both times and at Manfredi both times. To be fair, one night the prime rib served at the restaurant was amongst the best I have ever had. The waffle at the Explorer Lounge was exceptional. On at least 4 occasions the cookies offered with the buffet were stale. the wines with meals were acceptable if unremarkable. One could upgrade wine selection and liquor for an extra daily per person charge. The speakers/lectures seemed excellent, for those we could make, but we missed the largest number as they were scheduled during dinner hour or just prior to dinner hour. Getting on, on the day of sailing from Bergen, and off the ship in Stockholm, with our luggage, were superbly handled even though we left the ship at 6 am to make our plane. Read Less

From the moment we embarked to the moment we disembarked we were so impressed with the friendly staff, the cleanliness and overall treatment we received The cabin was comfortable and we had everything we needed. Bathroom was bigger than expected. Our steward was excellent. Room was always clean , neat and he responded immediately when we requested something like extra wine glasses or extra moisturizer. The food on this cruise was by far the best we have had on any of the dozen, not Viking cruises we have been on. Simply put we loved the food. The numerous daily choices of where to eat was awesome for us. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants very much and had such great meals each night that we still talk about to this day. Entertainment was enjoyable Service throughout the ship was excellent . We love the excursions and having extra time in each port to wander on our own was a great way for us to see what we wanted at our pace. We walked 85 miles during our trip. We loved our experience so much that we booked three more trips with Viking. Two more ocean cruises and one river cruise. We are hooked Read Less

We wanted to go to Norway to look for my husband's roots, and he found this cruise that sounded interesting on a smaller, more elegant ship. Everything was smooth with great service from booking to disembarking; all of the staff were pleasant and helpful, the cabin was comfortable and well-appointed. Food was great with several restaurant choices, but we spent most meals in the delicious and bountiful buffet. We especially loved sitting on our veranda while the ship sailed out of ports and through the beautiful waters of the Norwegian coast. Shore excursions were appropriate to the locations with very good guides and drivers. The optional excursions are relatively high priced, so we did some things on our own. We did a 3-day pre-cruise extension to Iceland which was really enjoyable and a good value. The ship's entertainment was a bit narrowly focused, with good music performers and a fun magician, but would have liked more variety. We were so impressed with Viking that we signed up for a 2021 river cruise while on board! Read Less

We had heard from friends and read reviews about Viking Ocean cruises. I wanted to go to Norway and visit my cousins I had never met after the cruise ended in Bergen. I also love the history of Russia so we thought the Viking Homelands cruise was the best for us. And all came true for us. We loved our Explorer Suite. We did have our cabin steward remove a couple of chairs. He was amazing and made our trip exceptional along with many other staff members. Including Omega our favorite bartender, he kept us well medicated! We do like the fact there are no children, no casino, no photos etc. The food was amazing. We have four friends we had told about our trip and how special it was on Viking and now they are going to be sailing with Viking on the Homelands cruise this Spring 2020! We just returned from a Princess 15 day Panama Canal cruise and it confirmed our love of Viking Ocean. We are looking forward to our first Viking River cruise Budapest to Amsterdam Grand European Tour April 8 to April 22 on Viking Lif. This is our 50th Wedding Anniversary trip. Explorer Suite 341. We had done the Grand European River Cruise in 2018 and we were so impressed with Viking that we decided to try one of their ocean cruises. We liked the itinerary of the Nordic Homelands cruise and it did not disappoint. Every port was a great experience and the included tours brought each city to life with information about their history. We spent an additional 5 days in Stockholm before the cruise and felt like we got the chance to do most everything we wanted to do. It was pouring rain and windy on the day we boarded the Viking Sea, but they met us with umbrellas at our taxi and got us quickly under a tented area for check in, which took only a couple of minutes. All the staff onboard were exceptional! The staff that checked you in and out at each port knew our names within the first couple days and would welcome us back with huge smiles! The cabin stewards were so sweet and attentive and the dining staff could not do enough for us! Great crew! Read Less

We had previously been on the Hong Kong SE Asia cruise with Viking and had a 5 star experience. This ship was also a Beautifully appointed, luxurious, comfortable ship, with an excellent staff, excellent food, and attention to detail, which made for a memorable, wonderful experience. The many travelers that I met on board were also very happy with Viking. We Enjoyed the seminars and talks immensely. It was really nice that you could also watch them on TV in your stateroom if you missed it live. The speakers were very approachable on board also. The preview of ports prior to arrival also were very good to provide an overview. They were excellent and could be also viewed on out stateroom TV. The stateroom was very comfortable and we loved the balcony. The specialty restaurants, dining room, buffets provided nice variety, while also providing excellent food and service. The beautiful spa and exercise rooms helped keep the excellent food from keeping extra pounds at bay! Viking is tp notch! Read Less

We chose this cruise as a great way to explore the Baltic region and we certainly achieved that aim....The tours and lectures meant we returned home having seen and learnt so much! From arrival at Stockholm to the departure gate at Bergen we were looked after very thoughtfully. The senior officers were ever present and available to talk to. A small niggle about the buffet was picked up by an attentive Restaurant Manager and dealt with professionally and personally by the Head Chef. The food throughout was excellent,we enjoyed both speciality restaurants and found it easy to make extra bookings once on the ship. Viking Sea is beautifully designed with lots of interesting artwork and understated Scandinavian style. The lectures we either attended or caught up with on the cabin t.v were all relevant and interesting/ thought provoking. There was more entertainment than we expected, we particularly enjoyed the 2 guest shows by Mary Jess and the resident Viking band and singers. The musicians who entertained in many of the public areas were very accomplished. We took several of the included tours, some were better than others but all gave us an introduction to the area which we were able to follow up independently at most destinations, often aided by the complimentary shuttle bus. After reading reviews we opted to use Alla tours in St Petersburg. They were excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending them. We chose not to take a tour in Berlin instead taking the included morning trip to Rostock and then occupying ourselves in Warnemunde (a local seaside town with a long sandy beach and promenade, interesting waterfront and lots of little shops, cafes ) A day well-spent. We were lucky to enjoy good weather throughout which always helps although strong winds in Gdynia meant we were unable to dock that day, an extra day at sea was easily occupied. If you decide to take this cruise I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Read Less

My wife and I had never taken a cruise before but were always intrigued by the ads for Viking. We never thought a cruise was something we would enjoy but we called Viking to ask some questions. Our agent, Roman O’Brien, was very helpful and convinced us that Viking was the cruise for us. I think the most important things for us was the small number of passengers, no gambling, no children and no photographers. We booked the Viking Homeland cruise on the Viking Sea for May 2019. After booking the cruise we experienced their web site. It is one of the most professional sites I have used. All the information was there and it made our planning very simple. We booked our own flights but booked with Viking to pick us up at the airport when we arrived as well as transporting us to the airport when the cruise was over. Upon arriving on board, a member of the housekeeping staff introduced himself and walked us through everything in the cabin. Every time we saw him and his partner during the cruise they would greet us and call us by name. Soon we found that when we went to dinner the maître d' also greeted us by name. We soon realized that staff was treating us like royalty everywhere we encountered them. Our cabin was like new when we returned from a shore excursion or an outing. If we ever needed something the answer was always yes. Again, they treated us like royalty. All of the shore excursions were fantastic. Viking did an amazing job of coordinating everything. We were informed each night of all the events for the next day. And there was virtually no waiting in line disembarking and embarking for shore excursions. That had been one of the horror stories we heard from friends on their cruises. Again, one of the great things about the Viking Sea cruises is the limited number of passengers (950). The only time we had to wait in line was returning from Berlin. The majority of passengers went on that excursion so it was understandable that it would take time going through customs. One of the exciting things about that excursion was that Viking rented a train for us to travel to and from Berlin. On the ride back they offered refreshments, beer and wine. And when we arrived back to the ship, the whole crew was there, forming a runway for us, to welcome us back home. The onboard dinning was like eating in a 5-star restaurant. Every meal was unparalleled and the service was excellent. Another great thing about the meals was that they always had selections on the menu relating to the country we were visiting. All the restaurants were first class. We ate twice in the two alternative restaurants, The Chef’s Table and Manfredi’s Italian Restaurant, which were available at no extra charge. Another wonderful benefit on Viking Sea cruises. The entertainment was very good and the “Port Calls” each day prepared us for the excursion as well as historical insight. There was something for everyone. Finally, I would like to summarize our trip by saying we had one of the best adventures of our lives. And being treated like royalty was icing on the cake. We had such a good time we recently booked our second cruise on Viking. Read Less

The food is excellent, service is above expectations. Viking cruises are well worth the money because of comfort, friendly staff, knowledgeable guides, and all the extras included. I have observed and experienced the help desk staff deal with questions and/or problems professionally, calmly, and efficiently. It amazes me that everything is dealt with promptly. Days are well planned out. Guests can participate in as many activities as they want or find many places to relax however they want. The entire ship is always spotless. The many different types of restaurants offer cuisine for everyone’s palate. I highly recommend Viking river and ocean cruises. My experience on each has consistently exceeded my expectations. We chose this cruise for its ports of call, length of cruise and recommendations of friends. We loved the entire experience - our cabin was quite comfortable, the crew was professional and always had a smile and the food was excellent with many wonderful choices. This was our first cruise together and we loved the experience and will definitely book another Viking ocean cruise. The only complaint we had is that there were too many ports for the length of the cruise. We definitely would have liked more time in Copenhagen and maybe cut out the Alborg, Denmark stop. The guides make such a difference in the success of the shore excursions and we had fantastic guides in all ports but one. The crew was also a highlight of the trip - they came from 32 different countries and they had such an excellent attitude and always asking if we needed anything. Overall, this was a truly memorable experience for my husband and me and we look forward to our next Viking ocean cruise in Asia a year from November. Read Less

We enjoyed the food options - especially being able to have meals in various locations. The public areas were numerous and extremely comfortable. The entertainment in the evenings was varied and very professional. We also enjoyed the various lectures by the historians on board that gave us historical perspectives of each of our destinations as we were approaching those destinations. The service on board the ship was outstanding, including the staff when we were boarding and disembarking; the meals; the loungesand the housekeeping personnel. We also felt that each of our guides on each of our excursions in the various ports were professional and interesting and entertaining. Read Less

We started with a two day pre cruise extension in London offered by Viking. The hotel was centrally located in Westminster, close to the Abby, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye. The hotel was nice, the included breakfast was okay. We were picked up by bus and taken to the ship in Greenwich. This included a tour on the way to the ship with a guide. Embarkment was a breeze even though we had to tender. It did take longer than usual for our luggage to arrive and when it did we got it one bag at a time over several hours. This was our second cruise on the Viking Sea and just as on our other cruise the food was excellent at all the restaurants. We really enjoy the Chief's Table with the wine paring and unusual food. I have tried food there I never would have thought to put together and it has all been good. We also enjoy Mamsems for breakfast. It is always quiet there and the view is the best. The only draw back to breakfast there is the menu is very limited. The service at all the restaurants is great. The servers really try to get to know you and your food and drink preferences. We picked this cruise because of the ports of call. This is not the usual Europe cruise with lots of cities, churches and museums. This cruise is closer to an Alaskan cruise with beautiful scenery and lots of activity. On most of our shore excursions we either hiked or kayaked. Viking did offer all levels of shore excursions from easy to demanding. We usually chose the demanding and some were really demanding, others not so much. We ended our cruise with a post extension trip to Oslo by way of the Bergen Rail also offered through Viking. The rail trip was nice (however the Alaskan rail is much nicer and more scenic). The hotel we stayed at in Oslo was right next to the rail station and again centrally located. This hotel was not attractive and the beds were very uncomfortable. The included breakfast however was really good. The viking host that accompanied us on the train was very helpful and knowledgable. The Viking host at the hotel was not. Overall we had an excellent trip and can't wait to do go on another Viking Cruise. Read Less

Dining did not require formal wear, service was very polite and helpful. Dining staff recognized us on return meals and were very attentive. Meals were well done and delicious. Used the cafeteria style for several meals and were never disappointed by the selection or quality. Especially became a fan of the ice cream cones and bowls, The entertainment was great. My husband and I had been planning to take a cruise to Norway for quite some time and we finally decided that a Viking Cruise Line cruise would be the best option for us. Our experience with Viking was excellent. We met our ship in London where (because of it's smaller size) it was docked along the Thames River at Greenwich. Embarkation went smoothly and our stateroom was available to us as soon as we arrived on board. We spent the night on the ship and then took an included walking tour of Greenwich the morning of departure day. In all ports, Viking provides one included tour all were excellent with tour guides who were very personable and informed. The Viking Sea is simply gorgeous. The decor is a relaxing palette of cream, beige and warm wood tones. We spent evenings with a glass wine as we relaxed in the living room area following a day of touring. There are several comfortable locations to sit and read undisturbed, though I would have to say that the ship never seemed crowded. Wine and beer are included during meals, however, drinks ordered at other times were not overly expensive. The house Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio were in the $6.00 to $6.50 range and they were very good. We did not order mixed drinks, so I am unable to attest to their cost and quality. The meals were very good. The World Cafe buffet provided and excellent variety of well prepared foods and the wait staff were always friendly and efficient as they cleared tables quickly and readily refilled a wine glass. Three sit down restaurants, The Restaurant (the main sit down restaurant) and the two specialty reservation only restaurants, Manfredi's (focus on Italian), and The Chef's Table (with menu theme that changed daily) were all excellent. However, we found that there was often a 30 min to 1 hour wait for a table at The Restaurant during the peak hours 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Daily breakfast was served in both the World Cafe and The Restaurant. Both were very good. All cabins are outside veranda cabins. Our Deluxe Veranda was standard cruise ship size and quite comfortable and very well maintained. The bathroom was outstanding! It was roomy with plenty of counter space, a large glass enclosed shower, and heated floors! No complaints here. The staff throughout the ship was outstanding. They were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They all seemed to really enjoy working on a Viking ship. Our goal was to relax, read and engage in quiet conversation during our time on the ship, so we did not partake of the entertainment options. The Big Question: Would we take another Viking Cruise Line cruise? Absolutely! Read Less

This cruise had a lot of ports that were on our bucket list. We enjoyed the three over night port stops. Our room was nice and kept very tidy by our room steward Anton and his team. It could use some more storage for clothes such as shelves or a few more drawers. (That’s my only complaint). The ship is beautiful. The spa with the thermal suite and snow grotto is so cool. We went as often as we could. Nice gym that we used only a few times unfortunately. The 2nd deck is great for walking laps. The food was excellent as well as the service. We ate at the Chef’s table twice and Manfredo’s twice. Both very good. I really enjoyed the outside seating at breakfast and for lunch. The pool grill was very good for burgers and sandwiches. The included beer and wine with meals was an added bonus and plentiful. The included excursions are ok. I prefer private tours with smaller group. Some where better than others. Weather was beautiful for the entire trip. Service throughout the cruise was excellent. The food was excellent with the exception of the coffee. The coffee machines were adequate but not up to the standards of the rest of the offerings. I loved the decor of the ship. It was very simple and elegant. There were a number of quiet lounges and hideaways when you just wanted to read or quietly take in the beauty outside. Itinerary - Opportunity to visit 7 Countries surrounding the Baltic Sea; most of which we had never visited before plus some icing in the cake - an extension in Iceland! We had such a wonderfu time on Viking River Cruises the previous 2 years, we decided to try out the larger sea-going vessels. The larger but not too-large size of the ships were attractive - They offered the opportunity to sail Baltic Sea and visit these countries without sacrificing most of the small-boat charm, service and friendliness that we were so delighted with on Viking River Cruises - plus more opportunity for varied dining and entertainment options offered by a larger boat. In particular the dining room options were unexpected bonus that we weren't expecting but thoroughly enjoyed. Another thing we really like about Viking is the ability to book extensions onto the cruise and get the same level of Viking Service on our land extensions - this time we took advantage of the extesnion offered in Iceland - what a great experience that was! We enjoyed this trip so much and with Norway being one of our favorite's on this trip, we booked another cruise while on board for June 2019 - "Into the Midnight Sun" with an extension Oslo sailing in June 2019. My last name is Scandanavian and I have always wanted to travel the Baltic. That is Viking's home territory and I figured, correctly, that it would be a great trip. We upgraded to a Junior Suite and found it to be a very roomy suite with a great view. The no-extra-charge room service we used at breakfast quickly became a habit. Meals were delicious we particularly like Manfredi's Italian menu. The self serve restaurant offered varying choices always of high quality. My wife loved the availability of gelato. The spa was great for her with back problems and the massages helped. It was a treat to find a band and majorettes performing for us dockside in Gdansk. The ship is small enough to be friendly and large enough for plenty of variety. I tried the larger ships once and thought I would never go on another cruise. We had a great choice of excursions and enjoyed all, particularly the bus/train ride up to the Hardangervidda in Norway, the scenery was fantastic. Wife and I have been cruising over 25 years. These days we prefer suites on longer cruises so we upgraded to the Explorer Suite. Well worth the money. Great room and largest balcony we’ve ever had. Viking Sea is only two years old so we were definitely spoiled. Ship is in great shape and many things on board are fascinating like the shower in the suite. It’s walk-in with no ledge. Great drainage via great design. Heated towel racks etc. were all as one would expect in the top-rated suites. Room came with lots of extras and as the brochures say, all is included. Room service was great for early breakfast when shore excursions were leaving early. Service was impeccable. Food was great. Entertainment was so-so. The night club was fun. The house band playing in the night club was probably the best musicians on the trip. Had a great couple singing just about anything you could name and they hit it out of the park. Bar tenders do the flippy thing with bottles which is fun to watch as well. Pools, gym, etc. was all new and great. This trip was Barcelona and Beyond, a three-week cruise I understand they will no longer offer. Itinerary hit the Baltic region where we’ve never been. I’ll be brief and say this was the best cruise we’ve ever been on in over 25 years, but there are a few things that surprised us. 1. Shore excursions: The literature says shore excursions are included. Wrong. One shore excursion is included at no additional charge at each stop, but that excursion usually consists of a 3-hour bus ride with the tour guide talking about a site as you drive by. These are also what you get if you take the transfers onto the ship and off. They use the 3 hours to kill while the ship gets ready for boarding or the hotel is ready for check-in. I’d probably take a taxi in the future. Plan on paying for excursions the old-fashioned way if booking through the cruise. You can book your own through somebody like Viator.com but if they don’t get you back in time you’re screwed and the boat leaves without you. One thing about Viking, they stick to a schedule as far as departures. 2. Tips: The literature states a daily rate is charged per person that goes to handle all tips. Not really. At the end of the cruise we wanted to help out the crew and give more money by charging it to our room account and directing that to be split between members of the crew. After I already made the payment, I was talking to members of the crew. Each individual told me the same story. They get the same amount in their checks regardless of how full the ship is with guests. They never see any variance in the amount which strikes me as unusual since I’m sure other guests probably had the same idea of adding more to the account. So, if you want to add to the base amount go old-school and get envelopes from the passenger service desk and stuff your cash in them for tips at the end for those you believe deserve the additional amounts. 3. Hotels for before and after: Viking did an excellent job picking hotels. At least 4 stars for each. 4. Before and after excursions: You’re on your own for these. Viking only books those that occur during the cruise. At least they did on this one. We arranged our own. 5. Web site: Very useful. Fill out all the information for express check-in in the My Journey site. Site also had good info and videos of stops etc. Study it well in advance of your departure. 6. Travel insurance: Viking offers insurance that is good for the trip, but could use more for medical. You might want to augment this coverage with a medical that offers additional coverage. For instance, in states I had to be airlifted after an accident which cost over $40,000. In Europe and other parts of the globe, should the unthinkable happen, anything that flies costs 4 or 5 times that, plus the additional cost to repatriate back to the states. Just something to think about Summary ….. it will spoil you taking other cruises. Read Less

Love the stateroom with high end toiletries, heated floor and the 24 hours room service. The specialty restaurants offers the best tasting menus. Love also the buffet restaurant. The crew were great friendly people. Very courteous and very eager to serve and help. Lost one of my favorite gloves and the crew made an effort to find it. It was found and I felt so special. Special thanks to the Filipino crew who made us feel so welcome and so at home. Love that the ship is not too big and felt more intimate. The ship was constantly being cleaned especially the restrooms. Twenty one days seemed very short because we enjoyed our cruise very much. We also enjoyed the excursions which were very educational and fun. We enjoyed especially the train ride to Berlin! Loved the refreshments Viking included on this train ride including the German beers. Every night is showtime and shows had a rich variety from broadway to opera. This is not the first cruise we did with Viking and we wish to have many more cruises with them in the near future. Viking has amazing ships, people and countries to visit. Read Less

Loved our first trip (Mediterranean Odyssey 2017) so much, decided on this longer trip soon after arriving home. Hotel Barcelona excellent pre cruise hotel, short cab rides to see the Market, Musica Catalana etc. Embarkation was 15 minutes and on the ship and our room was ready early. Several of the days cruising around the south and west of Spain were rough sea days but only an annoyance and slept great in our 8th deck room! Lisbon and Porto great excursions with tram ride with refreshments and than a dozen of us to a winery outside of Porto! Paris excursion a mess with non-working VOX, everyone confused and meal on Eiffel Tower terrible. Knew when to meet at base, didn't know only 3 or 4 get on each time to go down on elevator. After 35 minutes waiting most of us began long trek down steps. At least we got our exercise! Only other disappointment was a trip thru Kiel canal at night instead of day because of accident damaged a lock a month before. Amsterdam was great, walked 6 mile round trip thru the city with friends from the ship. Stopped at a couple of pubs and markets! While on the English Channel a coast guard helicopter dropped 2 guardsmen on top deck with rope, flew off then came back and picked them up. We watched them from other side of deck overlooking pool! Berlin excursion great. A quick 2 hour train with refreshments, a solemn visit to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and then a bus tour of city with several stops and lunch. Tallinn walking tour with another excellent guide was very nice! St Petersburg was great, saw all the great palaces, Church of Our Saviour on Spilt Blood, an evening performance of The Ballet and a couple great meals, one with entertainment and Vodka! Helsinki bus tour was a little wet and cool but bought and ate several things at harborside vendors stop. Stockholm was great for after cruise stay! Explored old city for 2 days with friends from ship. A lot of shopping and excellent cafes, a little like Venice. Shipboard restaurants are all very good to excellent, wifi good enough for us to call and text home. Enjoyed a Viking Ocean cooking class on a sea day with 10 other people, we all helped prepare the meal then sat down and enjoyed it with some wine! Crew beyond great as they were on our first cruise. Enjoyed the size of ship could enjoy a drink by ourselves or with friends. Will never cruise on a large ship again! Debarkation very easy, put our luggage outside cabin on last night and didn't touch again till we got to our Radisson Blu Waterfront room. One more item, our plane was delayed out of Detroit. Got on Delta site got a flight out 4 hours late, connecting thru Amsterdam instead Paris. Got to Barcelona 4.5 hours later than expected! Figured we would have to handle our luggage and get our own transportation! Did not even put our Viking stickers on. Got near the the luggage conveyor and young man walked up to us, seeing our Viking luggage tags and asked us who we were by our last name! Turns out they were waiting for us and one other couple! They got our luggage and hailed and paid for our cab to take us to our hotel! What a relief and great great service! Read Less

We select cruises based on itinerary and pacing, ship size and cruise line reputation. Viking Ocean did not disappoint! A big selling point for us was that the "Barcelona, Baltic and Beyond" cruise allowed us to stay overnight in several ports; Barcelona, Amsterdam, St. Petersburg and Stockholm. The Viking Sea provided a lovely atmosphere and exceptionally attentive service during this 21 day cruise. Dining offerings were varied and wonderful, with Manfredi's being our favorite and The Restaurant a close second. The World Cafe was fine for breakfast and lunch but service was a bit disorganized and the ventilation could be improved. We loved, loved Mamsen's! Wonderful waffles and pastries. The Wintergarden for tea and scones was a highlight for midday snacking. The best spot on the ship to enjoy the views and libations is The Explorer Lounge. It even has a fireplace! We took advantage of several of the included excursions and we're very pleased with them. We also purchased several excursions; very fine as well. On sea days we took advantage of the gym (our choices; rowing machine, weights and elliptical). This was a wonderful cruise and I look forward to our next adventure with Viking. Read Less

Northern European counties are a part of Europe we've never visited before and we've had two previous river cruises with Viking, so when we read they'd launched several ocean ships for small ship ocean cruises we decided to take the plunge. What a delight. The river cruises are much more intimate and it is easier to make new friends, but with only approx. 900 passengers on the Viking Sea we enjoyed the ship a great deal and highly recommend it to all of our friends. The dining experience was world class, the entertainment was enjoyable, and the port tours were all enjoyable. The staff was world class with staff from over a dozen countries on the ship. They were very focused on making our trip memorable. This was definitely like living in a five star hotel for 18 days and the food could not have been any more spectacular. Every city we visited was terrific. St. Petersburg was a highlight of our daily shore excursions. The only excursion change I'd make is to not take the train from the port into the city of Berlin. While Berlin was interesting, we spent a total of approx. 8 hours "commuting by train" and I wish we'd stayed closer to the ship for our days excursion. There were other tours available near the port of Warnemunde, Germany. The only other change I'd recommend is to start the tour in Bergen, Norway and end in Stockholm, Sweden. We did it the opposite direction, and you have very limited flights back to the USA from Bergen, Norway. Read Less

We have done a Viking River Cruise, but this was our first Ocean Cruise and we loved it. The shipboard staff was very friendly and quite efficient. The food and the service thereof was great. We didn't do to much of the entertainment, but the excursions (included and extra) were generally very good. The cabin was very well designed and comfortable. My criticisms are few and minor, but they are: 1. There should be more than one session on the next day's excursions...the theater was always too crowded. 2. The snow room in the spa was out-of-duty the whole trip, which is really a shame when cruising Skandinavia. 3. The mix-up in Bergen due to the bicycle race should not have been a surprise to a company based in Bergen. We have booked another cruise on Viking and have nothing but rave reviews for the operation overall. We would and do recommend Viking to any of our friends. Read Less
