We chose this cruise because it went to 9 countries at one time. The cruise was great! The crew members were so nice and professional. Very helpful and pleasant.. Greeted every time they saw you were very efficient getting what you wanted or needed. The excursions were great and easy to book. Gave a lot of information for you to decide if it was something you wanted to. The food was good had many choices. The kitchen staff were very polite asked how our time out in town was and what we liked the most about the day. Everyone was very informative and interested us. Which is important when you deal with people every day. Everyone stopped to talk and didn't rush off no matter how busy they were. Everything was so clean and kept up very nicely. I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone. I will be looking for another Viking cruise to take in the future Read Less

This was an area of the world that we have always thought of visiting. To say the least, we had an outstanding cruise! Having a day in the originating and departing port was a bonus and exactly what we wanted. Checking into the ship was a breeze, no line and greeted warmly. There were more excursions than we could ever take on one journey so maybe we’ll have to do this again? Since we didn’t think we would ever do this again, it was hard to decide on just one a day! Our excursions were outstanding, the coaches were new, air conditioned, comfortable and never crowded. Our drivers were amazing and our tour guides were very knowledgeable and personable. There were excursions for every ability level and the transportation accommodated our needs for part of the family needing additional assistance. One of our excursions was scheduled for the building opening time so we were the very first group in the church and there were at least 2000 people outside waiting. Viking books their excursions well. The dining was always just right, from the specialty restaurants, to the main dining room to the buffet. We utilized room service each morning so we could sleep in just a bit longer before heading out on our excursions. This was wonderfully convenient and the food was hot and tasty. The common areas were impeccably clean and inviting. The staff in these areas were there to take care of you but not a nuisance. Every staff member on this ship is there to make you happy and they did. We chose Viking because pretty much everything is included and that included one excursion per port per day. There was no nickel and dimeing you on this cruise line and everything was top notch service oriented. I will only sail with Viking for any of my future adventures. Thank you to the Captain and Crew of the Viking Sea for a wonderful Family Adventure 2018! Read Less

The choice of ports, the small, Stavenga To the large St. Petersburg were educationable and memorable. Each experience was unique unto itself. We loved the continuous and varied choice of music. The spa and its amenities were truly a treat. My wife loved the vmassage and I loved the snowroom and sauna.Even though you can't control the weather, it added to the cruise. Our weather was fabulous! The food choices were varied, and extremely well prepared. Every night, there was an area dish from the port we were in. The wine, red or white, was included with the meal and was complimentary, well chosen, and was different every night. As we are not drinkers, we did not take the baverage package. We made our own arrangements for some of the tours and found them to be more directed to what we wanted and less expensive. When all is said and done, this was our fourth Viking Cruise, and we are already planning our fifth... trophy Australia and New Zealand. When you get off a cruise for fifteen days, and have nothing significant to complain about. It's great to look forward to the next cruise on Viking. Read Less

We picked this cruise because of Viking's reputation and the itinerary that this cruise provided, namely the opportunity to visit Norway in addition to thecountries included in other lines' Baltic cruises. The ship, staff and food were exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the "Restaurant" at day's end when we were not eating at Manfredi's or the "Chef's Table". We hesitated at signing up for the beverage package, but found that although we are not big drinkers, it was nice not to worry about a surprise tab at cruise end. We took advantage of offered optional shore excursions at every port and were generally pleased. Pulpit Rock and the St. Petersburg Ballet were among the highlights. The only downer on the trip were problems with connecting flights arranged by Viking which were tight and thoroughly botched by Air Canada and complicated by SAS. The transatlantic flights were great with the ability to select seats worth every penny. Read Less

We had sailed above the arctic circle with Viking in 2016 and loved the ship and the experience so much that we booked the Viking Homelands cruise. The itinerary was perfect as, at a leisurely pace, we were able to visit 8 lovely countries over a 14-day ocean cruise. We had sailed with Viking on numerous river cruises throughout Europe and enjoyed them immensely. Viking translated the luxury and the rich experience of the river cruises to their ocean cruises. We started out in Stockholm and ended up in Bergen, Norway and sailed on the Viking Sea. The cabin accommodations were ideal: each cabin has a veranda view and is comfortable with plenty ot storage and a delightful bonus is room service is included 24/7. The restaurants - all included - were superb and we found the World Cafe perfect for lunch as well as dinner when we wanted a more casual approach to meals. We had breakfast in our room every day. The shore excursions - one is included at every port - are very well organized and the guides were excellent. The pace of the excursions was also excellent as you could choose a moderate or more leisurely trip on shore. The entertainment was very, well, entertaining and never overly crowded so we could always get a good seat. The enrichment programs are something unique to Viking and have the bonus that you can view the programs in your room if you prefer. The review of each port was so helpful: the culture, history, and geography of each city visited was throughly previewed and these too were availble on the tv index. The Program Director was so helpful and appeared to be cloned as she was everywhere at once. Her enthusiasm was infectious. I cannot say enough positive things about Viking and this cruise. Our next cruise will be with Viking on a river but we will return to the ocean on Viking I'm certain. Read Less

This was a family cruise, we traveled with my two brothers and their wives. We were interested in visiting Norway because we have family there, in Bergen. It worked out better than we had hoped, we were able to spend a wonderful afternoon and early evening with them before returning to the ship. The time we spent on the trip was relaxing, and every meal we had was so good. The variety of food and drink made it hard to decide what to have, and it was a treat to try many of the foods from the port we were docked in that night. The staff really did an outstanding job of making sure everything was just right. Every place we visited was amazing, we had knowledgeable guides, and interesting side trips. It was the trip of a lifetime. Being able to visit so many countries in such a comfortable manner made each day so very special. Since we have been home, we have told many people about our experience, and when they ask if we would do it again, the answer is an immediate, "In a heartbeat!" Read Less

This was the 2nd cruise, but not the last, we took with Viking Cruises. We booked this one because wanted to go to places we have never been before and we were not disappointed in the countries we visited or with the tours we took. Some which where included other that were extra, but all worth the prices paid. The bar staff, restaurant service, food, and all the cabin crew on the ship was way above expectations. Everyone seem to go out of their way to make sure all passengers were happy and had the very best service possible. I liked the fact that the restaurants were open seating and that there was no charge for the 3 specialty restaurants. The food and service in all places was excellent. I would highly recommend this cruise, and any others offered by Viking. FYI we are going on the Danube in May 2018 Read Less

After going on several; river cruises with this company we decided to try an ocean cruise. The ship was great, plenty of storage space in your rooms, staff could not have been nicer and the food was really good. The one thing I really enjoyed was their local foods they offered from each port. The reindeer was very good. The ship is new and there are two more on the way. It is a smaller ship so if you like the masses on the other cattle boats you probably won't like this. We have gone on many cruises and I don't think we have had a friendlier staff. They would do anything they could for you. Some of the ports we had to much time in and others not enough. EX. Berlin...It is a long train ride to get there and much time to see it all. On the other hand St. Pete. we took the 2 day tour and saw almost everything. Read Less

We had wanted to see Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Berlin. Estonia was a wonderful bonus as well as the other countries. The tours were enlightening and broadened our world view. On board the food was great and the service good. I also enjoyed the cooking class I took. We also enjoyed the lectures and additional information presented on the places we visited. There wasn't enough time to do all we were interested in. Russia was the least interesting of the countries we visited. The timing of this particular cruise was particularly good as we saw several national holidays being celebrated. It was fun and interesting to see how each country celebrated their heritage. The included tours were very well chosen and the guides excellent. In particular we enjoyed the tours in Norway and Estonia. We were just talking about wanting to do this cruise again. A trip this good is worth doing again. Read Less

This was an amazing experience. I travelled with my parents for their 50th Anniversary. They had been on several Viking River Cruises and had fabulous experiences, so we decided to take a Viking Ocean Cruise aboard the Viking Sea. Everything was first rate. The cabins were gorgeous- spacious and comfortable (heated bathroom floors!!), the food was amazing- we did make reservations for a few nights but actually preferred the World Cafe which is open seating and has something for everyone. I loved that there were no small children or casino- other guests were very nice and pleasant to travel with. Not much of a show person but the entertainment was good- they had a Beatles night and ABBA which was fun, plus opera- La Boheme from the Met on the movie screen and classical musicians around the ship. Excursions were great- we did a lot of the included ones- basic overview of the cities, and added a few extras. Our guides were very good. Spa was heavenly- we went for massages and enjoyed the pools. We even tried the Snow Grotto! Only negative we encountered was everyone was trying to print boarding passes before debarkation and the printers were so slow it took hours- could have been a printer glitch that day. We have actually booked another cruise for winter 2017 to the Caribbean. I highly recommend Viking! Read Less

Firstly we chose “Viking” based on our previous river cruising experiences. We always book our travel and transfers with Viking. As soon as we see the Viking agents responsible for getting us to our ship, we immediately relax and get into vacation mode. We chose this cruise hoping to see the natural beauty of the Norwegian fjords and Viking came through with flying colors. As advertized, our ship sailed to locations only accessible to smaller ocean liners. During the cruise, we enjoyed several conversations with our ship’s captain. He was very approachable and appeared to enjoy the cruise just as much as his passengers did. The entire service staff took care of all our requests and needs. The in port excursions were fun and very educational. During our time on board, we utilized the excellent fitness facilities, enjoyed many satisfying meals at all of the restaurants and poolside grill. We have now enjoyed both ocean and river cruising with Viking and look forward to booking future trips. Read Less

New ship. Long history of success with River Cruises. Not so much with ocean cruising. Ship rocked a lot on open ocean; enough to wake us and make walking difficult. Cabin was minimalistic but room for hanging and storing clothing and luggage was enough. Food was very good overall. Sometimes had a slow go of it when excursions were leaving early. Entertainment was average to poor. The servers were very good. Excursion desk was not as helpful; same for concierge. Monies for this trip were paid in full over a year in advance as required by the company. That is unacceptable. Ports and were very good. Shore excursions as given by the line were mostly walking so we spent much more to see sites away from the ship. At times, the line to reboard the ship after the excursion was almost an hour in very warm weather. They did give us water and cold towels but should have allowed us to stay on the air conditioned bus until it was our turn to board. They did allow the very elderly or those having medical issues to board immediately but that was after the fact. Yes, they are a new line. No, they do not have it together yet. Read Less
