We chose this cruise as a great way to explore the Baltic region and we certainly achieved that aim....The tours and lectures meant we returned home having seen and learnt so much! From arrival at Stockholm to the departure gate at Bergen we were looked after very thoughtfully. The senior officers were ever present and available to talk to. A small niggle about the buffet was picked up by an attentive Restaurant Manager and dealt with professionally and personally by the Head Chef. The food throughout was excellent,we enjoyed both speciality restaurants and found it easy to make extra bookings once on the ship. Viking Sea is beautifully designed with lots of interesting artwork and understated Scandinavian style. The lectures we either attended or caught up with on the cabin t.v were all relevant and interesting/ thought provoking. There was more entertainment than we expected, we particularly enjoyed the 2 guest shows by Mary Jess and the resident Viking band and singers. The musicians who entertained in many of the public areas were very accomplished. We took several of the included tours, some were better than others but all gave us an introduction to the area which we were able to follow up independently at most destinations, often aided by the complimentary shuttle bus. After reading reviews we opted to use Alla tours in St Petersburg. They were excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending them. We chose not to take a tour in Berlin instead taking the included morning trip to Rostock and then occupying ourselves in Warnemunde (a local seaside town with a long sandy beach and promenade, interesting waterfront and lots of little shops, cafes ) A day well-spent. We were lucky to enjoy good weather throughout which always helps although strong winds in Gdynia meant we were unable to dock that day, an extra day at sea was easily occupied. If you decide to take this cruise I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Read Less

This was an area of the world that we have always thought of visiting. To say the least, we had an outstanding cruise! Having a day in the originating and departing port was a bonus and exactly what we wanted. Checking into the ship was a breeze, no line and greeted warmly. There were more excursions than we could ever take on one journey so maybe we’ll have to do this again? Since we didn’t think we would ever do this again, it was hard to decide on just one a day! Our excursions were outstanding, the coaches were new, air conditioned, comfortable and never crowded. Our drivers were amazing and our tour guides were very knowledgeable and personable. There were excursions for every ability level and the transportation accommodated our needs for part of the family needing additional assistance. One of our excursions was scheduled for the building opening time so we were the very first group in the church and there were at least 2000 people outside waiting. Viking books their excursions well. The dining was always just right, from the specialty restaurants, to the main dining room to the buffet. We utilized room service each morning so we could sleep in just a bit longer before heading out on our excursions. This was wonderfully convenient and the food was hot and tasty. The common areas were impeccably clean and inviting. The staff in these areas were there to take care of you but not a nuisance. Every staff member on this ship is there to make you happy and they did. We chose Viking because pretty much everything is included and that included one excursion per port per day. There was no nickel and dimeing you on this cruise line and everything was top notch service oriented. I will only sail with Viking for any of my future adventures. Thank you to the Captain and Crew of the Viking Sea for a wonderful Family Adventure 2018! Read Less

We always wanted to go to the Baltic! We have sailed with Viking on their river cruises and was thrilled with them so.... when this brand new ship came out, The Viking Sea, we decided to go! Could not have been happier! The ship was magnificent. All the ports were wonderful except not too much to see in Helsinki. Service was outstanding as was the Food. We booked the very high end restaurant in Copenhagen called Geranium. A bit pricey but worth EVERY penny. Without a doubt the best dinner experience we have ever had. The Russian Ballet in St Petersburg was also a delight. We loved the roominess and comfort of the Penthouse Jr Suite. Came with some really nice amenities like mini-bar, and included dry cleaning and laundry service. Double sink in the large bathroom and PLENTY of storage space and closets, unusual for cruise ship. And, the onboard entertainment was great with a troupe of young and VERY talented performers. Our favorite spot to hang out was the bar area lounge in the rear of the ship. We could relax there, enjoy the view, and select from a huge variety of food selections from the extensive buffet area. We already booked their new sister ship for the British Isles cruise in 2018. I choose this cruise for two reasons, first because of Viking and secondly because of the trip itself. Th Viking sea is a five star ship with outstanding service. It is a beautiful ship. The cabins are comfortable and each room has a balcony. Each room has a small refrigerator that is restocked daily at no charge. It has candy, snacks and juices. There is coffee machine in your room as well. There is a small Laudermat on each floor for the guests to use. The furnishings are lovely Scandinavian pieces. Even the furniture in the grand hall are very nice. The grand hall is three levels where entertainment is provided each evening. There is also a bar for after dinner cocktails while you listen to the piano player, guitarist or string trio. There are also nightly talks given by the tour director. The restaurants are many and varied according to your taste whether it be Italian,a steak house and several others to try. The buffet is outstanding serving everything you could possibly want from a variety of soups, breads, fish, meats, vegetables, and desserts. They even have sushi available. And of course wine and beer are available at lunch and dinner. There's plenty to do on board from the exercise room, the spa, the snow grotto or go for a swim The staff are efficient and will see to your every need. And they do it with a smile. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was some of the tours that were included. Maybe some of the tours you pay for were better. The best tour guides were in Berlin, Norway and Poland. But here again it all depends on the tour guide not Viking. Maybe they could do better to include museums. Read Less
