We chose Viking because of their reputation. Our experience with the service, food, & excursions exceeded our expectations. The cruise director, Marie, kept everything organized for the excursions and made the onboard evening activities fun. We were briefed each evening on the next day's agenda so there were no surprises. The food prepared by Chef Max was delicious and the ability to mix and ...

POOR VIKING RIVER CRUISE

Review for Viking Idun to Europe - River Cruise

We would not recommend Viking river cruise. Dealing with Viking Air was cumbersome and time consuming. Nickel and dime air charges: $100.x2, $166.50x2, $24x2, $50x2, $20.x2. And no refund on any, some being Viking mistakes, some just illogical rules. Food was poor, most guests we ate with agreed. Customer blogs before this cruise commented on poor food and Viking chose not to fix this ...

It was chosen on the recommendation of a friend and also our travel agent. We learned a great deal of European history, the devastation caused by World War II, and the resiliency of the European people. We were amazed by all we saw and the amount of territory we traveled. We also enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and sharing the experiences with them. The excursions were very ...

Not enough time in ports, too little control over your day

We chose this cruise because we had never tried a river cruise before and Viking seemed to be a popular option. They provided an included excursion at each city they stopped in, and we felt it was nice not to pay for every excursion. Finding the Cruise - Call for Better Pricing Our experience when we got to Amsterdam was really mixed. We were not provided with the exact location of the boat, ...

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Viking. They couldn't have done more to make our trip even better than we expected. From the time we were met at the airport until we got back to the airport to return home, they were always there to help if needed. Even though we had to change ships due to low water levels, it was just an opportunity to see more of the country on our bus ride to the new ...

Not So Grand European

We wanted to experience the view from all 3 rivers, however Viking closed the upper deck for 6 days. I understand why but we would have selected another itinerary had we known this. My biggest dissatisfaction was the fact that the reason we take Viking is for their Enrichment and Shore Lectures. None of this existed on the River. The Aquavit Terrace that is advertised as another restaurant ...

Superb cruise

We chose a Viking European River Cruise because the itinerary offered was one we were looking for. Package price was attractive. All of the stops along the way were well served with excursions that were well planned and well executed. The best highlights of each port were presented. We had a veranda suite giving us some extra space (which was indeed at a premium) but the 'sofa' was ...

Had never been to Eastern Europe. So much information on the after effects of WW11 And the break up of Checoslovakia. My only disappointment was that there were not enough hand sanitizers on the boat and someone came on with a cold and by the third day, many people were coughing and sneezing. I caught a cold and was miserable for three days and missed a whole day of touring in Belgrade. ...

What a relaxing, wonderful way to see the countries of Eastern Europe. Every detail was attended to. The staff were exceptional, the voyage smoothe and scenic, the food excellent and the pace perfect. It was our first river cruise and we will be back! We especially loved the pre-arraigned shore excursions. The busses were very comfortable and the tour guides very friendly and knowledgeable. ...

On the Danube in Eastern Europe

We had previously cruised up the Danube from Budapest to Germany. We were intrigued by the idea of going in the other direction. We were not disappointed. Starting from Budapest, where we spent a couple of nights on land with both significant free time and guided touring, we ventured further into Hungary then on to Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania. The tour ended with a land stay in ...
