I enjoy traveling to new places and accompanied a friend, who is a retired History teacher. The Lofn was my first experience on a Longship and quite different from cruising on big ocean liners, but very nice. The ports were wonderful. Our guides were fantastic. Everything was very well planned. I would have enjoyed more evening entertainment. A dress code for dinner would have been appreciated-jeans are fine during the day, but no jeans and t shirts for dinner. Including a tour of Ann Frank's house would have been appreciated. My friend waited 2 1/2 hours in line. Visiting the many cathedrals was a highlight of my trip. The tulips were gorgeous the third week in April. The dining hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner accommodated our tour times. Rene was a great entertainment director. The waitstaff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was pleased with service, food and special diets. Being able to tour the galley was an unexpected treat. Read Less

I cannot say enough good things about this cruise. Great tours, great room, great food. The ship's crew were the best, friendly and helpful. I like the idea of having tours adjustable to one's walking ability. The tour guides were knowledgable, able to answer questions. Ship personnel were available to answer questions and take care of any situations that occured. I was unfortunate enough to become ill with a breathing problem and I received excellent care from emergency people plus staff members getting medicine for me. Then taking their time to check up on me, even while in Budapest. I certaainly could never thank Viking enough for their courtesies shown me. This was my third Viking river cruise and am in the process of choosing another river destination. I have been on a larger cruise ship to visit the Baltic countries. Looking over the information, I feel that using the river cruise I will get a better feel for the countries visited. I wouldn't choose to be a repeat customer if I were not a satisfied consumer. This was my first river cruise. I had never been to Europe. I had to go by myself as my friends could not afford the cost. I felt I got my money's worth and more. From the minute we landed in Germany I had no trouble locating the cruise staff. The bus ride to the ship in Passau was very smooth and I enjoyed seeing the country side. I found the staff on board very impressive. Quite a few of them called me by my name and always spoke. Since I was alone I had a single cabin. I am a tall person and was concerned about the bed which was a pull out couch. The crew went out of their way to make sure I had another mattress put on the couch which was very comfortable. I thoroughly enjoyed the port excursions. The travel guides were very informative. I loved the history and the scenery. I had been concerned about the food but it was very much to my liking. The wait staff were very good and attentive. The diembarkation was very efficient and I had no trouble. I would highly recommend this as a form of travel. I probably will not go on the large cruises again as I found this to be a very gentle and peaceful way to travel. Read Less

First and foremost - the food: Breakfast on board was excellant. Lunches were very good. Dinners were another story. While none of the dinners were bad, and some quite good, a lot of them were bland and pretty much without taste. The one or two shows were very good, especially the galss blowing show. Wine list was very good. Only one beer on board, bitberger, which was good but a variety would have been better. WiFi was spotty but worked. Cabin upkeep was great. Biggest downside, to my way of thinking, was the time allotted for each port. We stayed in Vienna until 1 or 2 in the morning, so that at first light we could see some beautiful scenary, Only problem was - FOG. Nothing to be seen. The late departure from Vienna only allowed a couple of hours in Melik. No time to stop at the local shops and beer halls. Tour the abbey and rush back to the ship. I'd have much rather have left Vienna early evening and had a couple of more hours in Melik. Same for one of two other ports. You could do a tour or see the town, but not both. A real bummer! Wait staff and barkeeps were great. You have to take into consideration that their sense of humor is not quite parrallel to yours, but overall they were very good. Bottom line - I would do it again in a heartbeat, but I'm not so sure if my wife would. Do not miss the Mozart concert in Vienna - worth the price of the whole cruise!! West Palm Frank. Read Less
