Not enough time in ports, too little control over your day

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Idun

We chose this cruise because we had never tried a river cruise before and Viking seemed to be a popular option. They provided an included excursion at each city they stopped in, and we felt it was nice not to pay for every excursion. Finding the Cruise - Call for Better Pricing Our experience when we got to Amsterdam was really mixed. We were not provided with the exact location of the boat, ...

More Bus than River Cruise

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Odin

Summary: City of Lights Cruiseon Viking Odin with time before and after in Prague and Paris. Poor Value for Money primarily due to maintenance issue with the ship, and poor customer service. Would recommend travelers considering a river cruise seriously consider Viking competitors such as Avalon or Grand Circle. Travel Dates: 29-July-15 to 10-Aug-15 with pre-cruise in Praque, 8 day “cruise” ...

I know most people have had excellent experiences with Viking, but unfortunately I cannot claim to be one of them. Our tour started in Prague in the midst of one of the worst heat waves that has hit Europe in the last hundred years. The Hilton was a nice enough hotel and the rooms were good. The Viking representatives were very nice and since we had arrived several hours early they were able to ...

We booked this cruise, airlines, and travel about a year in advance! The airline connections were a complete cattle run. Tucson to Denver switch planes Denver to Frankfurt switch planes Frankfurt to Paris switch planes so tired after this! Thought we were going to get killed the way the driver took us to our dump of a hotel. Pullman Paris Eiffel Tower; between the broken fixtures in ...

Viking Europe River Cruise - NOT!

My wife and I booked the Viking river cruise in Europe for our 25th wedding anniversary and it turned out to be a bus tour of Europe! The river level was too high for the first four days so we couldn't leave Basel. Finally the river level went down slightly and we began moving. Yippee! Oops, we only went about thirty miles then found out that the lock workers were on strike so we couldn't ...

Viking airline arrangements and hotel in Paris no good; ship was nice.

Viking gives you a discount on airfare when you book a cruise with them, but watch out. They arrange things by computer, so the itinerary they give you features impossible connections (which can only be changed by paying extra fees) and 5 hour waits in CDG airport so they can pack everyone on one bus and not have keep picking people up all day. In the process, we missed one of our two days in ...

Overpriced, Poorly Organised, Bus Tour

Review for a Europe - River Cruise Cruise on Viking Idun

No one told us that we would be spending more time during the day travelling by bus as the ships seldom dock in the towns advertised. So it is early morning bus tours to reach the advertised city, town, castle. A 12 hour bus tour from Paris to Trier to embark and another 12 hours from disembarkation at Nurnberg to Prague was exhausting. Food was not deluxe standard. Not enough seating in ...

We were amazed to find Viking River Cruises get the Top Travel Award for Service again-I'm sure the service used to be top class-but we and many of our co-travellers agree that service has drastically deteriorated recently-probably because so much time and money is going into their new Sea Cruise Enterprise. Our Danube Cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest in July 2014 was a disaster from start to ...

Was assured in writing by Viking prior to the cruise that the Idun did not have water problems. I know that at least 2 rooms on the main deck had major flooding (one had soaked carpets on arrival) and many rooms with showers that backed up. 2 balconies were unusable due to standing water. Also was told by 2 different parties that the carpet outside the lounge was soaked at night (they went to ...

Disappointing Viking Idun River Cruise

Accommodation: Cabin was well equipped but there was little space to move around. Restaurant: was very cramped for space and poor acoustics made conversation almost impossible. There was barely sufficient space for 188 passengers. There was a mad rush to to the restaurant after breifings for next day, to get seat at a table with someone you knew, with a server who was good, big scramble for ...
